Joanna Garcia On 'Revenge of the Bridesmaids,' Her New Fall Show, 'Privileged' Fans & George Steinbrenner

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 14th 2010 4:30PM
JoAnna GarciaYou know the old expression, always the bridesmaid, never the bride? Well in the case of 'Revenge of the Bridesmaids' (premiering Sun., July 18, 8PM ET), a new ABC Family movie, it's much better to be the ones in hideous dresses as Joanna Garcia teams up with Raven-Symoné to exact revenge on their old frenemy on her big day.

Garcia is a busy lady, with the movie, a new show this fall called 'Better With You' (premieres Wed., Sept. 22, 8:30PM ET on ABC) and a wedding to plan with fiancé and New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher.

I caught up with the bubbly star to talk weddings, rap sheets, rabid 'Priviliged' fans, old 'Reba' pals and her soon-to-be-husband's response to the death of his boss, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.

CW Cancels 'Privileged,' 'Reaper' and More

by Andrew Scott, posted May 20th 2009 11:00AM
PrivilegedCW is cancelling four of its series -- two dramas and two comedies, says Variety.

One of the biggest shows to get the ax is 'Privileged,' which aired on Tuesdays after the popular '90210' reboot. 'Privileged' remained on the 2009 bubble in true roller-coaster fashion, with earlier rumors of a midseason pick-up. There were even reports that the network would re-air the show's first season in the summer.

However, today's cancellation ends all talk -- a decision that series creator Rina Mimoun called "truly heartbreaking," according to the Ausiello Files.

Also getting the boot from the CW is 'Reaper.' 'Reaper' was in a similar position last year as one of the network's bubbled shows, but still managed a 13-episode pick-up for midseason. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for next season's lineup.

TV Squad Ten: Series that should be renewed

by Isabelle Carreau, posted May 1st 2009 5:40AM
ReaperLast week, TVSquad readers made our "Which shows are renewed, canceled, or on the bubble?" post the most viewed and most commented of the week. Most of the commenters voiced their opinions as to which show should be renewed, and since I also watch loads of TV, it's with no surprise that I wanted to chime in, as well. (Look for my "Series that I think should be canceled" post later this week.)

Here I present you, the 10 shows I think should be renewed. Note that I did not include in this list shows that have been confirmed as renewed by the network (such as Gossip Girl), nor those that have been officially canceled (bye bye Pushing Daisies).

If you just want the list, click here.

Leverage'Leverage'
(10PM, TNT) 1st season finale
If you've missed out on this drama starring Oscar-winner Timothy Hutton, here's the chance to catch a replay of the entire first season (10AM).

The marathon ends with the season finale, where Hutton's modern-day Robin Hood-ish Nate must reunite his merry band of men and women grifters to avoid jail. Nate's pals are all in hiding after their plan for revenge against the company that denied medical treatment for Nate's now-dead son went awry.

Nate has hatched a new, even bolder, scheme to get even with his nemesis Blackpoole (guest star Kevin Tighe), but the stakes for the new heist are even higher for him and the team: Either vengeance, or life-long jail sentences, are theirs.

Michael Cassidy leaves Privileged

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Dec 29th 2008 5:03PM
Michael CassidyA lot of casting news lately has been about series regulars departing their series. Today's announcement is no different. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello just announced that Michael Cassidy, whom we've grown to love or hate -- depending on whether you were rooting for Summer and Seth to be together in the end -- as Zach Stevens on The O.C., will depart The CW's Privileged.

Since his stint on The O.C. ended, Cassidy appeared in a few movies and The CW series. He played character Cliff Wyatt on the canceled-rather-fast CW series Hidden Palms and guest starred in a multi-episode arc on Smallville as Grant Gabriel, a.k.a. a cloned and aged version of Julian Luthor.

Wonder why, when and how he will depart Privileged? Answers, including tiny spoilers about the series, are coming up after the jump!

What's the best new show of the season?

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 11th 2008 2:39PM
PrivilegedA lot of people would say FOX's Fringe. A lot of people would say CBS's The Mentalist (it's also the #1 new show ratings-wise). Some might even say CBS's Worst Week, though a lot of people wouldn't. It's actually been kind of a blah year for new shows.

The Boston Herald, a newspaper I used to write for many TV seasons ago, says one of the best new shows is actually on The CW, and it's Privileged. Amy Amatangelo says that Privileged is "that rare show...that gets better every week." She's even really specific when comparing it to other shows. If you like Brothers & Sisters you'll like parts of the show, and if you're a fan of How I Met Your Mother, you'll like other parts of it (the show is about a Yale grad who is hired by a cosmetics millionaire to tutor her kids). She compares it to Gossip Girl too.

So this go me thinking: what do you think is the best new show of the year? I haven't seen Privileged yet, so I'd probably have to go with either The Mentalist or Fringe. Poll is after the jump.
