'Glee' Halloween Costume: Rachel Berry

by Rich Keller, posted Oct 29th 2010 2:45PM
The Rachel Berry costume includes solid colors, a white smile and a fondness for Barbara Streisand numbers. How to dress like Rachel Berry of 'Glee.'

The Costume:
Rachel Berry, co-leader of McKinley High's New Direction glee club and girlfriend to school quarterback Finn Hudson.

What You'll Need: It depends if you're going as season 1 or season 2 Rachel. If season 1, you'll want to start off with a wig of straight hair, parted somewhere in the middle, and follow that up with a number of sweater shirts, preferrably adorned with various animals. Slacks or capris of various pastel colors or a plaid skirt completes the set.

If going for the season 2 look you'll need to purchase a Hannah Montana wig, cut it down to your neckline and dye it brown. Replace the sweater vest and plaid skirts with a solid-color two-piece outfit. You can also try for a polka-dotted sun dress or, if you want to get really nasty, the outfit she wore during 'Britney/Brittany.'

Happy World Vegetarian Day to Our Favorite TV Herbivores

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 1st 2010 10:40AM
Lisa SimpsonIt's the most important holiday EVER today. No, not my birthday, it's World Vegetarian Day!

As one of the token vegetarians around the TV Squad offices, I know all about the hardships of choosing to remain meat-free. But hey, I'm not alone. I've got millions of other vegetarian and vegan brethren -- even fictional ones!

In honor of this joyous holiday, I'm grilling up some tofu and paying respect to some of TV's best vegetarians. There aren't many TV characters who are vegetarians, and there's a surprising lack of male vegetarians, but it is easy to play favorites.

'Glee' and the Barbra Streisand Connection

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 29th 2010 2:02PM
barbra_streisand_high_school_yearbookEver since 'Glee' began, there's been a thread running through it that's always reminded me of Barbra Streisand. In last Tuesday's episode, the thread was more like a rope, as four characters did the medley "One Less Bell/A House Is Not A Home," just like Streisand did in the 1971 Burt Bacharach TV special.

Apparently, others have picked up on this connection, too. This review in New York magazine suggested that the 'Glee' should really do a Barbra Streisand episode -- like the Madonna show -- because Barbra is 'the patron saint' of 'Glee' kids.

Whether they do an all-Streisand show or not, the writer made a great point about how the kids in New Directions are more akin to Brooklyn Barbra than almost any other performer. Before she graduated Erasmus Hall High School in 1959, Barbra Streisand was in glee club. (So was Neil Diamond!) But Streisand wasn't the star of Choral Club. The director, Mr. De Pietto, preferred blonde soprano,Trudy Wallace, and gave her all the solos. Streisand was put in the back, in the alto section.

'Glee' - 'Hell-o' Recap (Spring Premiere)

Hello, indeed! 'Glee' is back, and Mr. Schuester declared that New Directions needed an exciting new re-introduction to vault them into the next level, regionals. After all the glory and greatness of winning sectionals, McKinley's glee club was back to basics, thanks to reality setting in -- slushees in the face again! -- as well as Figgins reinstating Sue, who renewed her attacks on Will.

If that sounds like a spoiler to you, you haven't been paying attention to the groundwork laid in the first thirteen episodes. For more on the latest from Ohio's little singing group that could, read on after the jump.

More Sue, Songs and General Excitement: New 'Glee' Promos!

by Chris Harnick, posted Mar 25th 2010 4:00PM
GleeLast season it would've been hard to describe any show as a "phenomenon" without having it be a stretch. However, this season the TV gods -- or you could just thank Fox -- gave us 'Glee.'

The hit musical series is back in less than month and Fox has been releasing new promos and special videos in an effort to wet the nation's collective appetite.

New segments of "Sue's Corner" have hit the Internet and commercials featuring new music and scenes are hitting Fox's airwaves, readying us for what we hope is a triumphant return on April 13 at 9PM EST on Fox.

Check out the new videos after the jump.

The Wicked truth is Idina Menzel wants to be on Glee

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 5th 2009 3:02PM
idina_menzel_cdCould it be that the cool show for guest appearances is going to be Glee? It well may be the case after Kristin Chenoweth's musical showstopper last October. Kristin's Tony-award winning costar from Wicked, Idina Menzel, wants to do Glee. How do we know? Her husband, Private Practice's Taye Diggs, confirmed it.

There's more to it than just that. Apparently the Glee fans -- Gleeks -- have noticed the remarkable resemblance between Idina and Lea Michele.

Why, she could be/play Lea's mother! They look alike and they are both big time Broadway belters. We've heard Lea's incredibly rendition of "Defying Gravity," the song that made Idina a star, on Glee, too.

Here's the Defying Gravity video from last night's Glee

by Jane Boursaw, posted Nov 12th 2009 9:02AM
As Allison mentioned in her review of last night's Glee, it was an awesome episode. The show featured some great songs, some great lines, and a few surprises about some of the students and faculty. If you haven't watched it yet, I won't give away too much.

My favorite song was "Defying Gravity," the ballad from Wicked, sung in a "diva off" by Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt (Chris Colfer), with each performance inter-cut with the other. They both have fantastic voices, and I'm in awe of Colfer's spot-on tone and intonation. Just gorgeous! But I have to agree with Allison that perhaps Rachel has the more Broadway-type voice that jumps off the stage and grabs you.

I don't know, though. It's a tough call as to which has the bigger diva voice. What do you think? If you were a Broadway casting director, who would you choose to sing this song -- Kurt or Rachel?

(Thanks to Rickey.org for posting the video.)
