Randy Jackson is Giving Celebs an 'Aptitude Test'

by Crystal Bell, posted Oct 10th 2011 7:00PM
Can you imagine what life would be like if Kim Kardashian wasn't a reality celebrity? Somehow, the thought of her being anything else is terrifying, but 'American Idol's' Randy Jackson is on a mission to find out.

Jackson, who teamed up with Shed Media, has created 'Aptitude Test,' a one-hour series for VH1, where each week celebrities get the chance to see what might have happened if they never had their big break in Hollywood. After retaking their high school career aptitude tests to determine their suggested occupations, the celebrities will then disguise themselves and undergo on-the-job training before revealing their true identities to their bosses and co-workers.

Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson Confirmed for 'American Idol' Season 11

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 17th 2011 1:30PM
American Idol JudgesIn the showbiz world, nothing is official until the ink dries on the contract. That's why, despite 'American Idol' producer Nigel Lythgoe telling host Ryan Seacrest on the radio last week that Jennifer Lopez would be back for Season 11 of the Fox hit, we couldn't be certain if J.Lo would actually be back in 2012.

Thankfully, both sides were able to work out a deal, and now Fox has officially announced that all three of last season's judges -- Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy "Dawg" Jackson -- will return to gage the singing prowess of America's superstar hopefuls on 'American Idol' this spring.

Final Two Crews Battle for the Vote on 'America's Best Dance Crew' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 3rd 2011 3:14AM
ICONic Boyz & I aM mE, 'America's Best Dance Crew'The final two crews battled it out for ultimately supremacy in their last ditch effort to secure enough votes to win 'America's Best Dance Crew' (Thu., 10PM ET on MTV). The winner will be crowned this Sunday at 7:30PM ET in a special finale just before the 'MTV Movie Awards.'

All season long, I.aM.mE and ICONic Boyz have battled it out individually, rising to the top of the heap based on viewers' votes. But this time, they hit the stage together in a fun performance that saw them poking fun at each other's crews and styles.

And I.aM.mE got more than a few jabs in at how young the members of ICONic Boyz are, most ranging from 11-13 years old.

Scotty McCreery Reaches High in His Quest for the 'American Idol' Title (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 25th 2011 12:47AM
Scotty McCreery, 'American Idol'It was a packed hour as 'American Idol' (Tue., 8PM ET on FOX) kicked off its finale week, one night early. Assuming everybody remembered to tune in, they were treated to three songs each by the finalists, and even a special performance by a former 'Idol' winner.

The final round of singing featured new songs that would become the respective singles of Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, should they win the competition. But we have a sneaking suspicion both songs will get released, anyway.

McCreery was given 'Love You This Big,' which was a little kitschy in the title and premise, but allowed him to showcase both the low end and the higher end of his register; a fact that was appreciated by judge Randy Jackson.

The 'American Idol' Season 10 finale airs Wednesday, 8PM ET on FOX.

Randy Jackson's 'Idol' Prediction: 'Scotty's Probably Got a Slight Edge' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 24th 2011 4:00AM
Randy Jackson, 'Chelsea Lately'Randy Jackson snuck away from 'American Idol' during this finale week to sit down with 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!). Chelsea Handler took the opportunity to talk to him about the new judges and ask his predictions for the finale.

"They're a little bit warmer, a little bit sweeter," Jackson said of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. He intimated that it might be because they are current artists, and perhaps can relate more readily to what it's like to be in the contestant's shoes.

Surprisingly, Jackson was willing to make a prediction as to this season's finale match-up between Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery. First, he said that he suspected this would be the final two from the get-go. But then he said, "I think probably Scotty's probably got a slight edge; a very slight edge."

James Durbin Joins Randy Jackson and Jimmy Fallon on a Journey Song (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 18th 2011 6:49AM
Randy Jackson & James Durbin, 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'When Jimmy Fallon had Randy Jackson on 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), it was all fine and dandy to talk about 'American Idol' and all of that. But what would be really fun would be to jam with Jackson on a Journey track.

To make it more memorable, Jackson invited a friend along to help Fallon with the singing. And it's someone his 'Idol' fans would recognize right away.

Fresh off his surprise elimination from the singing competition, James Durbin lit up the 'Late Night' stage and proved he doesn't need any title from a reality show to prove that he has amazing chops.

While their harmonies may have been a little strange, it was a lot of fun seeing Jackson playing bass on a song from his old band's catalog, and Fallon and Durbin were clearly having a lot of fun sharing the vocals. It was certainly a fun and memorable moment.

Randy Jackson Makes Not-So-Bold 'Idol' Prediction on 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted May 16th 2011 2:10PM
Randy Jackson on 'The View'Today on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), Randy Jackson was asked his pick for the eventual winner of this season's 'American Idol.' We wouldn't advise betting the house based on Jackson's response. "I think it's going to either be a boy or a girl," he said. The three remaining contestants are Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart.

James Durbin was the last singer voted off the show, much to the surprise of Jackson and many who follow the show. "We've had such a diverse season and I think the coolest season ever, and him being this metal kind of rocker kid, we thought maybe he could go all the way," he said. "But you know, you never know. America, what's going on?"

Phunk Phenomenon Slows It Down And Flips It Up on 'ABDC' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 22nd 2011 5:49AM
Phunk Phenomenon, 'America's Best Dance Crew'Back again for the second time, Phunk Phenomenon turned up the energy and brought a whole different level of moves on 'Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew' (Thu., 10PM ET on MTV). Not only were they hitting their tricks hard, but they were giving us intricacies the untrained eye might not even see.

That's why 'ABDC' has those judges, and even uses the slo-mo technique so they can make sure we are aware of just how great some of these moves are. That way we can not only enjoy the performances, but we can become more educated viewers as well and thus gain an even greater appreciation of the art form.

JC Chasez was particularly impressed with Phunk Phenomenon's footwork on the ground. And when they busted out a slow motion movement of their own, we were all taken aback.

The Youngest Crew on 'ABDC' Reveals Killer Moves and Killer Abs (VIDEO)

ICONic Boyz, 'America's Best Dance Crew'The premiere of Season 6 of 'America's Best Dance Crew' (Thu., 10PM ET on MTV) continued this week, with the five remaining finalists hitting the stage with their takes on the hits of Ke$ha. But one group in particular stole the night with a nod to another MTV superstar, Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino.

ICONic Boyz is a kid dance crew, but there's nothing juvenile about their moves or musical interpretation.

On 'Your Love Is My Drug,' the boys sampled in a few words from 'The Situation' and one of them even lifted his shirt to reveal a "situation" of his own. It was a charmingly hilarious moment that showed a lot of personality for the young crew.

'Tight Eyez' and Street Kingdom Bring Krumping to 'America's Best Dance Crew' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 8th 2011 1:06AM
Ceasare 'Tight Eyez' Willis & Street Kingdom, 'Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew' season premiereWhen 'America's Best Dance Crew' (Thu., 10PM ET on MTV) decided it was time to bring krumping to the stage in a big way, they did it the right way. Ceasare 'Tight Eyez' Willis is one of the co-developers of the dance movement. Along with his crew, Street Kingdom, 'Tight Eyez' represented for himself and his movement on the show.

That means an opportunity to see krumping at its purest and rawest, and it was every bit of that as the crew pounded the stage with energy, anger and movements that are both intimidating and intoxicating to watch.

D-Trix, the newest member of the judging panel and a former contestant, knows exactly what a big moment this was. "For years we tried to have krump on reality TV," he said. "But only at 'America's Best Dance Crew' can we get Tight Eyez and the Street Kingdom here on this stage tonight."

Jay Leno Busts Randy Jackson for Putting Hot Girls Through on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Feb 24th 2011 4:55AM
Randy Jackson, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'First of all, if your voice slips up about ten octaves and you're not singing, you might be trying to hide something. Such was the case with Randy Jackson, when he tried to vehemently deny that he would ever put a contestant through based on looks over voice on 'American Idol.' But 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) had verifiable proof.

At least they had Jennifer Lopez backing up Leno's claim. After a simply okay female singer gave her audition, Steven Tyler gave a quick "yes," but Jennifer didn't think she was vocally ready. Randy couldn't keep his eyes off of her and when it came down to his vote, she went through.

"Seriously, you two?" Lopez asked at the time. "Seriously?"

"Busted!" Leno said now. "Busted!"
