The future of reruns questioned

So here's a question for the entire class, prompted by a post by Joseph Jaffe. Jaffe wonders (via an interview he did with the Sacremento Bee) whether we even need the concept of reruns anymore. After all, popular shows hit DVD pretty quickly these days and services like TiVo means if you like an episode you can have it at your fingertips whenever the mood strikes. Plus, networks are increasingly focusing on new reality shows to fill the traditionally rerun-heavy summer months.
