Robert Wagner Back as DiNozzo's Father, and a Suspect, on 'NCIS' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 23rd 2011 1:00AM
Robert Wagner, 'NCIS' - 'Sins of the Father'It's always good television when Robert Wagner reprises his role as DiNozzo Sr. on 'NCIS' (Tue., 8PM ET on CBS), but his appearance brought a whole new dynamic to his character, and his relationship with his son. Especially because it also brought with it a dead body in the trunk of his car.

Making matters worse, Senior had threatened to kill the man after he got screwed by him on a deal. He also claimed no recollection of the events leading up to his being in the rented Rolls with a stowaway in the trunk. It showed a different, more desperate and less smarmy side to Senior that was nice to see.

Robert Wagner Cuffed on 'NCIS' as LA Cops Say He's Not a Suspect in Wife's Death

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 21st 2011 8:25AM
Last week the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. announced they are re-examining the drowning death of movie star Natalie Wood. The news led to frenzied speculation as to whether her husband, actor Robert Wagner, would now be named a suspect in her death, which has always been shrouded in mystery.

At a press conference Friday, a sheriff's spokesman told reporters that Wagner is not a suspect. "Her death was ruled an accident, an accidental drowing. And that's what it is. If, at the end of it, our investigation points to something else, then we'll address that."

However, over the last few days CBS viewers could have been forgiven for being rather confused about Wagner's status because he keeps appearing on screen in handcuffs. That's because, in a collision of art and life, the network's been promoting tomorrow night's episode of 'NCIS,' in which his character is accused of murder. After being asked if they'd considered postponing the episode, a CBS source told The Wrap that it "is running as scheduled."

Natalie Wood's Death to be Reinvestigated by Police

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 18th 2011 7:00AM
Natalie WoodIt's been announced that police in Los Angeles are to reopen the inquiry into the drowning death of movie star Natalie Wood. She died in November 1981 aged 43 while boating off Catalina Island near the California coast with her husband Robert Wagner and movie star Christopher Walken. At the time the coroner ruled her death an accident, saying that Wood had been drinking and accidentally fell into the sea, striking her face on the side of the yacht 'Splendour.'

However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. issued a statement Thursday saying they are re-examining the case. "Recently Sheriff's Homicide Investigators were contacted by persons who stated they had additional information about the Natalie Wood Wagner drowning. Due to the additional information, Sheriff's Homicide Bureau has decided to take another look at the case."

The dept. is due to hold a press conference about the matter on Friday at 11AM PT.

'Charlie's Angels' Shake-Up: Robert Wagner Out

by Chris Harnick, posted Jul 21st 2011 10:45AM
Charlie's Angels 2011Good morning, Angels, we have some bad news: Robert Wagner is out of 'Charlie's Angels.'

The former 'Hart to Hart' star was tapped to voice Charlie, boss of three very angelic private detectives, but according to TV Guide Magazine, he's out of the series. Why? Scheduling conflicts.

Wagner reportedly got the role via an old deal he had with the late Aaron Spelling. The role will be recast, meaning the voice in the 'Charlie's Angels' pilot sent to media is only temporary.

ABC Orders 'Charlie's Angels' Pilot With Robert Wagner as Charlie

by Chris Harnick, posted Jan 13th 2011 4:00PM
Charlie's AngelsA 'Charlie's Angels' remake is a go -- sort of. ABC has officially ordered 'Charlie's Angels' to pilot.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the new series from 'Smallville' writer-producers Miles Millar and Al Gough will be set in Miami. 'Gossip Girl' veteran Mark Piznarski is being courted to direct.

Robert Wagner of 'Hart to Hart' and 'Austin Powers' fame is in talks to voice the unseen Charlie. According to Vulture, the 81-year-old actor had a deal with the late Aaron Spelling and received a stake in the 'Charlie's Angels' franchise, so him taking part in the new series seems to be part of the deal.

Henry Winkler Joins 'Royal Pains'

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 6th 2010 11:44AM
henry_winkler_headshotSomebody wise once said that when it comes to movies and television (theater, too), casting is essential. If you get it right, you're half-way home. Recently, that proved true on CBS's 'NCIS' with the casting of Robert Wagner as Tony DiNozzo's dad. Perfect casting.

Here's another instance where the producers seem to have nailed it. 'Royal Pains' has cast Henry Winkler to play Hank and Evan's father, Eddie Lawson. Yes, Henry Winkler. The Fonz from 'Happy Days,' but if you know you're Henry Winkler IMDB listing, you know he's done so much more than just Arthur Fonzarelli.

In fact, in a case where the casting was off, on the CBS sitcom 'Out of Practice,' he was Stockard Channing's ex and the father of Christopher Gorham, Paula Marshall and Ty Burrell. It never quite worked.

NCIS casts Gena Rowlands for integral guest role

by Allison Waldman, posted Jan 16th 2010 4:06PM
gena_rowlands_portraitWhat do Ralph Waite, Robert Wagner and Michael Nouri have in common? They've all turned up on NCIS for guest roles. And not just a quick pop in scene or two. No, they've been integrated into the show and two of them have already recurred. (I'm counting on Robert Wagner to recur in the future, as well).

So, the news today that Gena Rowlands will be on NCIS in March has me feeling very enthusiastic. And it's a multi-episode role.

Michael Ausiello reports in Entertainment Weekly that Gena has been cast as Jethro's former mother-in-law, Joann, an elegant, upscale type. NCIS executive producer Shane Brennan said that her showing up in Jethro's life again will bring with it lots of turmoil and emotional "heartache, anger and blame in the process."

Review: NCIS - Flesh and Blood

by Allison Waldman, posted Jan 13th 2010 1:42AM
I had been really looking forward to this episode of NCIS ever since it was announced that Tony's dad -- the original Tony DiNozzo, Sr. -- would be on and played by veteran TV star Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart). Well, it was not a disappointment. Other than the fact that the mystery involving a couple of Saudi princes wasn't very complicated, it was a really good show. Michael Weatherly on His 'NCIS' TV Dad, Robert Wagner

by Michael Maloney, posted Jan 12th 2010 8:00AM
NCIS Robert Wagner'NCIS' fans know Michael Weatherly as charming goofball/special agent Tony DiNozzo but on the series' 150th episode tonight on CBS, viewers will learn that beneath those jokes lie memories of a painful childhood -- and unresolved feelings towards his father. Robert Wagner (aka R.J.) guest stars as Tony's dad, Anthony Sr.

In a sense, working with Wagner was deja vu all over again for Weatherly; he portrayed the 'Hart to Hart' star and movie heartthrob in 'The Mystery of Natalie Wood', the made for TV movie about Wagner's late movie star wife. Weatherly recently chatted with AOL about sharing air time with the screen legend and gave a preview of the 'NCIS' episode that sheds new light on Tony.

From 'It Takes a Thief,' 'Switch' and 'Hart to Hart' to memorable, more recent stints on 'Seinfeld,' 'Boston Legal' and 'Two and a Half Men,' big-screen Hollywood legend Robert Wagner has, for decades, also made a big impact on TV land.

Tonight, the actor and actress wife Jill St. John jump into a fresh TV gig: Hosting 'The World Magic Awards' (8PM ET, MyNetworkTV), a two-hour spectacular that includes performances by the top acts in the magic biz -- Lance Burton, Ed Alonzo and Katalin, among them -- and helps raise funds for the Feed the Children campaign. (Check out the official site for the World Magic Awards.)

As he prepared to tape a January guest appearance for the 150th episode of 'NCIS,' the 79-year-old Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated Wagner talked to AOL TV about that guest role and his surprising connection to the series, the 'World Magic Awards' and his recent autobiography 'Pieces of My Heart,' a rich, candid Hollywood tale filled with personal details about his celebrity datemates (Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds and Barbara Stanwyck), his marriages to (and the death of) Natalie Wood and his friendships with mentors like Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Spencer Tracy and David Niven.
