Liza Minnelli Recalls a Surprising Dinner With Salvador Dali on 'Rocco's Dinner Party' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 18th 2011 3:53AM
Liza Minnelli, 'Rocco's Dinner Party'At 'Rocco's Dinner Party' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo), Alan Cumming revealed that his next film role would be Salvador Dali. After joking around about his crazy-eyed impression of Dali, it was discovered that fellow guest Liza Minnelli had actually met the artist.

"I went into this restaurant, and I was sitting at the table with Salvador Dali and I saw the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen," Minnelli said. Only, things weren't quite as they seemed.

It turns out the most beautiful woman Liza Minnelli had ever seen was actually a man in drag. And rather than be cool and sophisticated about it when she found out, Minnelli shouted out, "You're kidding!"

'Rocco's Dinner Party' Morphs Into a Culinary Fashion Show (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 4th 2011 6:30PM
'Rocco's Dinner Party'Food and fashion are regularly the focus of programming on Bravo, so it made perfect sense for 'Rocco's Dinner Party' (Wednesdays, 10PM on Bravo) to combine the two. Contestants were asked to make dishes for a "fashion-forward dinner party," creating dishes that were couture and ready to wear out of the same featured ingredient.

The couture side featured meals like black and white sesame-crusted tuna, new potatoes with crème fraiche and caviar, and chocolate ganache with sweet cream. On the ready-to-wear side was tuna salad, potatoes au gratin, and mint s'mores.

Executive private chef Frank Otte wound up griping about how he had so many culinary rules to follow. That didn't sit well with Brooklyn caterer Sharon Robustelli. "If Frank doesn't win, it would just be so cool 'cuz he talks too much smack," she said. In other words, she wanted to see Frank's couture get a dressing down.

Padma's Potato Skins Recipe Gets Everyone Hot at 'Rocco's Dinner Party' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 23rd 2011 10:40AM
Padma Lakshmi, 'Rocco's Dinner Party'The special guest for this week's installment of 'Rocco's Dinner Party' (Wed., 10 PM ET on Bravo) was Padma Lakshmi. This upped the ante for the contestants as Lakshmi knows a thing or two about good cooking. But it was her dinner table conversation that brought the most heat.

Take a read of the following description for making potato skins. "Take a nice russet potato out of the earth with your bare cold hand. After that, you boil it. Then you take it out when it's piping hot and you can barely hold it ... scoop some of the potato out so that skin gets nice and crunchy and brown at the edges."

Sounds pretty standard, but everything was in Lakshmi's delivery. By the time she finished, she not only had them salivating at the thought of potato skins, but they were fanning themselves for a whole different kind of heat.

Rocco DiSpirito Impressed By Jackie Collins' Meatballs on 'The Talk' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 22nd 2011 6:25PM
Rocco DiSpirito on 'The Talk'You can learn a lot about someone from their meatballs, at least if you're TV chef Rocco DiSpirito, host of 'Rocco's Dinner Party.' On 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) Wednesday, the ladies played DiSpirito a clip of him telling contestants on his show that he can tell exactly who someone is by the food they serve. Fellow guest Jackie Collins happened to be serving meatballs on 'The Talk,' which DiSpirito looked upon quite favorably.

"It tells me that you've got a set of meatballs," said DiSpirito. "You know my mom, who's watching, love you, mom, makes the best meatballs in the world." DiSpirito admitted he was judging on a curve, but liked the fact that Collins' meatballs were red and misshapen, indicating she had made them by hand.

That was all fine and good, but Leah Remini didn't want to hear a debate, she wanted to eat. "Why do I have to sit here watching Rocco eat?" she asked.

Andy Cohen's Guests Think 'The Real Housewives' Should Air on Cinemax (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 17th 2011 8:15AM
Mary McDonaldLast night 'Watch What Happens: Live' (Thu., 11PM ET on BRAVO) host Andy Cohen and his guests dished on the latest escapades of 'The Real Housewives of New York.'

Now, negligees, rose petals, nudity, massages and copious amounts of foam have all become staples of the reality TV romance-setting playbook. Last night 'Housewife' Ramona pulled out all the stops to set the mood for her possibly philandering husband Mario.

Talking about the couple's "sexy time" Cohen asked Mary McDonald ('Million Dollar Decorators') if she thought Mario was hot. Echoing, no doubt, many viewers' sentiments, McDonald said, "I was grossed out. ... I don't really need to see this."

Fellow guest Rocco DiSpirito concurred that 'Housewives' belonged on Cinemax, not Bravo, adding that, "It [was] like the soft-porn channel all of a sudden."

Chef Bobby Flay Cooks Up NBC Restaurant Show

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 14th 2010 11:19AM
bobby_flay_grill_smilingNBC is determined to get a piece of the delicious pie that's known and cooking television. While Food Network would seem to be the destination of choice for all things culinary, Bravo's had successes with 'Top Chef' and 'Top Chef Masters,' so NBC is enlisting those producers to cook up something foodie for its network that'll actually succeed. NBC has hired chef Bobby Flay to top line 'America's Next Great Restaurant,' a new food competition show to air next season.

Bobby Flay's
already one of the most prolific stars at Food Network. He's on 'Iron Chef' as one of America's iron chefs, he's a judge on 'The Next Food Network Star,' and hosts (or has hosted) 'Throwdown,' 'Boy Meets Grill' and 'Grill It.' You would think he's busy enough with FN -- as well as four restaurants of his own -- but the lure of NBC has clearly gotten to him. This new show, formerly called 'United Plates of America' will likely get a major promotion by NBC.

Top Chef serves up a new winner

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 26th 2009 3:02PM
The fifth edition of Top Chef came to a conclusion last night. I'd like to say it was one of the all-time best seasons, that I was on the edge of my seat with excitement, that I was really rooting for one competitor more than another... I'd like to say that, but I can't. All in all, Top Chef New York, which became Top Chef New Orleans in the last few episodes, was kind of a dud.

Before I talk about the winner and what happened specifically in the finale, I have to ask why Top Chef failed to really make use of the location this time around? New York is all about food and great restaurants and amazing chefs, but I can't think of one episode that really used the city in a creative way. Where was the Little Italy challenge? What about a trip to Chinatown for wild ingredients? Gail Simmons' bridal shower could have taken place anywhere. The Super Bowl challenge was generic. And when it was time for the finale, TC went to the Big Easy. Is that any way to honor the Big Apple?

Rocco DiSpirito Sounds Off on 'Dancing' Exit

by Raven Snook, posted Oct 15th 2008 3:00PM
Rocco DiSpirito and Karina Smirnoff"I told myself that if I [got kicked] out this week, I still had a great time."

Sometimes second chances aren't enough. Last week, Rocco DiSpirito and Karina Smirnoff were told that they would have been kicked off 'Dancing With the Stars' if it weren't for Misty-May Treanor's premature exit due to injury. Although the pair tried valiantly to impress the judges and the audience this week, they just couldn't rally the support they needed to stay on.

Neither competitor was surprised. When asked if they were offended by Bruno Tonioli's comment that Rocco didn't have a musical bone in his body, Karina said, "I think Bruno was giving us a heads up that our time was coming to an end."

While Rocco was disappointed to be voted off, he doesn't plan on hanging up his dancing shoes. "Maybe Karina will take pity on me and visit me in New York and teach me another dance," he said, to which his partner replied enthusiastically, "I live in New York!"

Although Cody Linley said, "It's tough to see Rocco go home. It was nice getting to know him," many of the contestants were already looking ahead to next week. Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer are particularly excited about their next dance: She will be teaching him the West Coast Swing, which is her hoofer father's specialty. "I'm the only one on the show who knows how to do it," she said. "It's the first time that dance will be on the show. It used to be the California state dance."

Read on for more of AOL TV's chat with Rocco and Karina and the rest of the 'Dancing With the Stars' cast.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 4 results

by Brett Love, posted Oct 15th 2008 2:15AM
Samantha Harris - Dancing With The Stars
(S07E09) After a week off from eliminations, it was time for the show to get back on track. That meant another couple would be leaving the competition, and as an added bonus, we would be finding out which teams were in the bottom two. That's always good to know, if for no other reason than it stops Tom and Samantha from repeating the "not necessarily in the bottom two" disclaimer. In addition to the results, there was also time for a musical performance from Ne-Yo, a flamenco exhibition from Los Vivancos, and the dancing kids were back. All of that, and a welcome change to the weekly taped segments, after the jump.
