'DWTS' Backstage Report: Ron Artest Talks About Exiting, Will Chaz and Lacey Dance to a Cher Song?

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 21st 2011 7:00AM
Tom Bergeron, Brooke Burke Charvet, Peta Murgatroyd, Ron ArtestIt bites having to leave 'Dancing With the Stars,' especially when you enjoy being there as much as Ron Artest did.

But the pro basketball player focused on the positive after host Tom Bergeron announced on last night's results show that Artest and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd would be the first couple to leave Season 13.

Artest is a lesson to us all in having to embrace a change that we might not be so thrilled about having to make.

The couple earned the lowest score on Monday's show and this was Murgatroyd's first year as a pro dancer so she's yet to build a fan base like veterans Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke and Mark Ballas have. That combination apparently proved to be the duo's undoing.

AOL TV was on the post-show press line to talk to Artest and Murgatroyd about their exit and to some of the remaining participants to get their thoughts on what they need to do to stay in the game.

Harry Connick Jr., 'Dancing With the Stars'Last season, audiences were given two nights of performances before making the first cut of the season on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Tue., 9PM ET on ABC). But ABC wasted no time this season.

It was a fun night of entertainment, if you didn't think about the upcoming elimination of a contestant to dampen your spirits. LMFAO got Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli up on their desk, dancing to the 'Party Rock Anthem.'

Harry Connick Jr. proved as cool as ever, treating audiences to the title song from his Broadway show, 'On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.' But the fun couldn't last all night, and finally things had to get down to business.

'DWTS' Backstage Report: Who's Going Home First? Also, Julianne Hough is Returning!

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 20th 2011 7:00AM
'DWTS' 13 CastIt's difficult to predict just who's going to be eliminated on tonight's results show of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

The scores ranged from 14 for pro basketball player Ron Artest (a.k.a. Metta World Peace) to 22 each for singer Chynna Phillips and 'All My Children' actor J.R. Martinez.

Since Artest's pro partner, Peta Murgatroyd, is also new to the show it's not like she's bringing in a lot of votes. Still, pro athletes have always done well on 'DWTS.'

How did the stars and pro dancers think they did? AOL TV was on the post-show press line to get reactions.

Ron Artest on 'Dancing With the Stars': All About the Eccentric Basketball Player

by Alex Moaba, posted Aug 30th 2011 10:45AM
Ron Artest, the eccentric L.A. Lakers forward who just signed on to Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars,' has had a career filled with more twists and turns than a samba routine.

Born and raised in the projects of Queens, New York, Artest played college basketball for the St. Johns University, where he gained a reputation as a defensive stopper, versatile scorer. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the 16th pick of the 1999 NBA Draft. Since then, he's played for the Bulls, Pacers, Kings, Rockets and Lakers in 12 NBA seasons.

While playing for the Indiana Pacers in 2005, he was one of the central figures in the infamous Brawl at the Palace in Detroit. After a fight between players on the court had been broken up, a fan threw a cup of ice on Artest, who then charged into the stands and threw several punches at the fan, sparking a massive players vs. fans melee that will be remembered as one of the ugliest incidents in NBA history. For his role in the brawl, Artest was suspended for the remainder of the season.

Nancy Grace Explains How Michael Jackson Helped Her Say 'Yes' to 'Dancing With the Stars'

by Michael Maloney, posted Aug 30th 2011 7:00AM
'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 cast

It remains to be seen who'll emerge as the front-runner on the 13th season of 'Dancing With the Stars,' which debuts Monday, Sept. 19 at 8PM ET on ABC. But, by early indications, contestant Nancy Grace is the one to beat on the press line.

The outspoken Grace didn't mince words as to why she came to L.A. to do the show. She's here anyway to cover the Michael Jackson murder case.

"I understand the defense attorney wants the jury sequestered from Nancy Grace," says the former prosecutor. "I can only say that his client is charged with standing by, talking on the phone to his girlfriend while the King of Pop, a music icon, lay on that bed and died ... I don't think it was altogether a bad thing that they asked the jury to be sequestered from me."

Grace is hoping that this trial sends a message that even rich celebrities accused of crimes deserve justice.

"Many people are still angry at Michael Jackson over the molestation charges. What many of them don't see is that Lady Justice is blind to the defendant and the victim. It doesn't matter what Jackson did or didn't do. It's a slippery slope to start judging victims."

Ron Artest Wears a Fake Beard, Plays Football With Jimmy Kimmel (VIDEO)

Ron Artest Wears a Fake Beard, Plays Football With Jimmy KimmelNBA star Ron Artest is an odd fellow. He's won a world championship, but he's better known for his unique brand of behavior.

Artest was the first basketball player to ever run into the stands and attack a fan. Less dangerously, but just as weirdly, he drank cognac during the halftime of games, wore a bathrobe to practice -- and applied for a job at Circuit City, so that he could get an employee discount (while earning millions of dollars a year).

All of this makes Artest a risk to have on your team -- but it also makes him an excellent guest on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC).

The LA Lakers Are Very Concerned About Their Hair -- and Their GroinsThe Los Angeles Lakers are now your 2010 World Champions. What will they do next? Will all the players stay on the team? Will coach Phil Jackson return next year? Will they manage to 'three-peat'?

Strangely enough, when the Lakers appeared on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC), they didn't seem all that focused on these questions. Rather, they discussed guard Sasha Vujacic's obsession with making sure that his hair looks awesome. Vujacic was caught primping on camera in a clip that host Jimmy Kimmel shared. The clip got plenty of laughter from the team. Then, the conversation moved on to groins -- and testicles.

What does bad behavior get you? Why, your own reality show, of course. Controversial Los Angeles Laker forward Ron Artest is set to develop, produce and star in his own reality series, 'They Call Me Crazy.'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will document the "ups and downs of Artest's life," allowing him to "make amends for past transgressions," announced E1 Entertainment, which will distribute the series.

"I'm really excited to have the opportunity to invite people into my world to see the real me, and show them there are many more sides to the Ron Artest they see on the basketball court," Artest said in a statement. His "past transgressions" include a 2004 incident when the B-baller attacked a fan in the stands during a Pacers-Pistons brawl, as well as headline-making antics off the court.
