As much as there have been movies about the theater and movies about movies, the films that have been made about television are some of the best ever. This year alone, there are two movies nominated for Best Picture of the year by the Academy Awards that are all about television -- Slumdog Millionaire and Frost/Nixon. Without TV, neither of these films would exist. Looking back, here are the films about TV that set the standards by which Slumdog Millionaire and Frost/Nixon are measured.

  • SNLAt 8, FOX has a new Cops, followed by a repeat and then a new episode of America's Most Wanted.
  • ABC has World's Greatest Sports Bloopers at 8, then Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
  • NBC has a new Dateline at 8.
  • TLC has a new Moving Up at 8.
  • For some reason, the History Channel is showing the original Planet of the Apes at 8. Great movie, but...The History Channel?
  • HGTV has two new episodes of reDesign starting at 8.
  • At 9, Cartoon Network has a new Naruto, followed by new episodes of One Piece, The Prince of Tennis, and Mar.
  • At 10, CBS has a new 48 Hours Mystery.
  • There's a new Trading Spaces on TLC at 10.
  • HGTV has a new Design on a Dime at 10.
  • At 11, FOX has a new Mad TV, followed by a new Talk Show With Spike Feresten.
  • At 11:30, NBC has a new Saturday Night Live, with Drew Barrymore and Lily Allen, followed by a new Poker After Dark.

Tony Snow is Ron Burgundy!

tony snowTonight, Countdown with Keith Olbermann had hilarious video of new White House Press Secretary Tony Snow playing in his band, Beats Workin'. What kind of band? Well, the website says they play '60s, '70s, and '80s rock music. Their song list includes Eric Clapton, Beatles, Grateful Dead, Eagles, Chuck Berry and so on.

What was so funny about the video was that Tony Snow was playing lead flute... just like Ron Burgundy on Anchorman (Keith and I said it out loud at virtually the same time). Unfortunately, the video is not up on YouTube. Not yet, anyway.
