Review: 'Damages' - 'Flight's at 11:08'

Glenn Close as Patty Hewes on FX's 'Damages.'
(S03E03) "Tonight's been educational." - Patty

Educational it was, both for Patty Hewes and viewers alike, as last night's 'Damages' proved that it can tell one helluva narrative without any of those pesky "six months from now" flashes. 'Flight's at 11:08' isn't the first episode to put the back and forth, past/present/future jumps on the back-burner, but it is the earliest it's happened in a season. Normally, those narrative devices don't fade away until the climactic moment later in the season when everything collides. What we got instead was a bit of different angle for 'Damages' as last night's episode was driven by the characters and not the over-arching plot.

Prison Break: Call Waiting

Whistler(S03E03) "I think I've heard that one before." - Michael

So... what's in the box? It's a simple question, used time and time again. The film Se7en pops into my mind. We've known for a while that Sarah Wayne Callies wouldn't be reprising her role on Prison Break and we finally saw her body double in this episode. Maybe it's too early to kill her off but it wouldn't surprise me if "what's in the box" offers the producers and writers behind this show an easy out.

That being said, my gut tells me it'll probably just be a finger wrapped up in some tissue paper. If they do kill Sara off, there goes the biggest incentive Michael has to get Whistler out of Sona. Sure, The Company would still have LJ and we know family is big deal with Michael... but it's still not the same, you know?

Lost: Further Instructions

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Oct 18th 2006 11:49PM

Terry O'Quinn and Dominic Monaghan star in Lost.

(S03E03) Wow, I don't even know where to begin... get comfortable, because I'm gonna end up writing a lot. Spectacular. Although, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised because this episode just continued the up and down trend established last season. A few so-so or mediocre episodes and then we get this. The other day, while writing this Dexter post, I said that there's no reason why Lost can't feed us viewers a whole ton of info and clues (you know, keep us entertained) while at the same time, leave us on a note that makes us want to do something wildly inappropriate like punch a child or at the very least, knock over your TV set. This was one of those episodes. It's over, it was good great, but we're still in the dark... so what did we learn?

Numb3rs: Provenance

Numb3rs

(S03E03) I suppose it was only a matter of time before we got this episode. Numb3rs is a cop show and you can't have one of those without the obligatory "priceless art theft" episode. So I suppose "generic" is a suitable word to describe this installment. It was good (Numb3rs always is), but you've seen this one before.

Deadwood: True Colors

Deadwood - True Colors

(S03E03) New arrivals in the camp. Wu has returned from his recruiting mission in San Francisco. The rest of his workers he's hired will be arriving in "ten day." Nice to see that his vocabulary is growing. His return set the tone for the episode though. Wu is a changed man. Believe it or not, he's become quite the shrewd businessman despite his lack of English skills and his appearance is slightly updated too. Let's be honest, he looks ridiculous. But Wu's transformation seems to mirror that of the camp's. Things are changing and I don't think the end result is going to be what anyone expects.

Entourage: Dominated

Entourage - Dominated

(S03E03) I must be slow. Only just now did the wordplay of this episode's title make any sense to me. "Dom"inated. Idiot, right here. Dom would be the goofy looking guy in the middle of the picture above. He's an old buddy from back home in Queens, fresh out of prison, and looking to get reacquainted with his old friends. As one would expect, his return went downhill fast. I honestly wasn't too impressed with this episode. First time that's ever happened with Entourage.

Rescue Me: Torture

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Jun 14th 2006 10:33AM

Denis Leary; Paige Turco; Rescue Me(S03E03) This is shaping up to be a pretty dark season. Not to say that the first two were all sunshine and lollipops but we're on course for some pretty big confrontations. The one that has me most interested is Mike. His "probie" status is coming to an end and we know he's been tossing around the idea of transferring to another house. As many had correctly speculated, we found out at the end of the episode that Mike is indeed gay. At least it seems that way. He has some sort of a boyfriend and the two of them like to drink beers and cuddle at the end of the day... so, I'm not sure how else to interpret it.

It would seem then, that his decision to file for a transfer has more to do with his fear of everyone finding out his secret. And they will. We know that this isn't the most tolerant group of guys, but I'm thinking that when they find out, they might cut Mike some slack. He really respects these guys and I think it's killing him that he might lose that respect. Here's to hoping that Tommy and the rest of the crew don't let Mike down.
