Numb3rs: Breaking Point

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Jan 12th 2008 2:01PM

Numb3rs(S04E11) "He's not one of your agents. You know that, right?" - Alan

The return of everyone's favorite FBI nerd! With only one new episode left ("Power," it airs next Friday) you better savor it, though. We won't be getting any new Don and Charlie exploits for a while now.

Fortunately, we started off this final two episode run with a good one. I've always been a proponent of episodes that play to the characters weaknesses/strengths and this was a perfect example. A good case that doesn't overwhelm the storyline coupled with some personal issues (Alan and Charlie in this episode) generally makes for a good hour of Numb3rs.

Grey's Anatomy: Lay Your Hands On Me

Chandra Wilson stars as Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey's Anatomy.(S04E11) "Call me when she codes." - Hahn

The power of healing. Does it work? Perhaps. I think it went a little too far when everyone who "the healing lady" touched got better, but I prefer to play the skeptic and Hahn's line did it for me. You're a kook and I'll be back when you're on the verge of death.

Healing took center stage in this episode though. Along with redemption, lying, cheating, and neglect. Just like every other episode of Grey's Anatomy. To be honest, I was really pumped for this one. We've been reading for months about this Bailey narrated episode (she really didn't have much to say), but once it got going I found it a little stale. Maybe it's because it's been over a month since the last episode and the story wasn't exactly fresh in my mind. Maybe it's because this is the last pre-WGA Strike episode. Or maybe it's because I'm finding myself less and less drawn to these characters. Either way, I hope this forced time off gives the show a chance re-invent itself.

Rescue Me: Cycle

Lou has his first encounter with chocolate pizza.

(S04E11) "I've got eight Frescas in me Lou. I'm on a massive NutraSweet high. Don't get me started." - Tommy

Did I miss where the title of this episode was referenced? I've racked my brain, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how the word "cycle" played into this episode. Doesn't matter. I've finally figured out what this whole season has been about. Maybe I'm slow (because it's been hinted at right along) but this time around it was thrown right in our face. Tommy's search for faith. The mysterious black figures. The prayer books. The only thing missing is Tommy's personal Jesus from season two. I know I've said before that maybe Tommy has a death wish. Maybe he doesn't, but he's definitely trying to defy something. The funny thing is that I don't think he knows what it is.

Entourage: No Cannes Do

Drama, Turtle, and Vince

(S04E11) "Ninety-seven minutes, E." - Drama

It just keeps getting better. Like everyone else, I've complained here and there about some of the mediocre episodes that have aired this summer. However, it's hard to stay angry when we get one like this. It was perfect really. Hands down, one of the best written episodes of Entourage -- spanning all four seasons. Think about it. When was the last episode that flawlessly integrated every character into the action as well as guest spots from Kanye West, Sydney Pollack, and Anna Faris?

Nip/Tuck: Conor McNamara, 2026

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Nov 15th 2006 12:47PM

The year is 2026 and some things haven't changed a bit as Christian (Julian McMahon) arrives at the McNamara family dinner reunion with his two young girlfriends.

(S04E11) What a cool episode. This was actually the second really elaborate "What if?" episode that Nip/Tuck has done though. Remember the one where it looked at Julia's life if she had chosen to marry Christian instead? This episode was better I thought and technically, it wasn't a "What if?" scenario so I guess I misspoke there. This is what actually happens in the year 2026 to the McNamara's and their friends. Kind of a cool concept because we've never had a chance to see the future of our favorite plastic surgeons. Look at that picture! I love how Christian essentially became Burt Landau despite his dislike for the man. Getting old will make you explore your options though.
