'Sons of Anarchy' Season 4, Episode 3 Recap
by Maureen Ryan, posted Sep 20th 2011 11:00PM
['Sons of Anarchy' - 'Dorylus']This week is crazy-insane crunch time for the fall season, so this might be one of my shorter 'Sons of Anarchy' reviews.
Clearly, the most compelling part of the episode was the vote at the end. But there were some interesting moments amid the political wheeling and dealing that went on before the big gathering around the 'SOA' table.

'Being Erica' Star Erin Karpluk Previews Season 3
by Michael Maloney, posted Jan 26th 2011 5:30PM
When Erica Strange returns for season 3 of SOAPnet's cult hit 'Being Erica,' she's running from the police and cutting open a vein (figuratively) as she deals with the depressing realization that almost everyone in therapy must face: She is not her doctor's only patient. The drama/fantasy series tells the tale of Erica Strange, who, with the help of the mysterious Dr. Tom, is able to travel back into time so she can re-examine past events that have shaped the woman she's become.
At the conclusion of season 2, viewers saw Erica's life was left in disarray. No job, no boyfriend. Now Erica moves in a new direction as she enters a form of group therapy where she is introduced to Adam, played by new series regular Adam Fitzpatrick, who's caring for his gravely ill mother.
We spoke to star Erin Karpluk about what to expect from season 3, which premieres tonight at 11PM ET on SOAPnet.
Disney Drops SoapNet Channel for New Kiddie Network
by Allison Waldman, posted May 26th 2010 10:45PM
After 10 years and 75 million subscribers, the SoapNet channel has been cancelled. The move was a major shock, although considering the demise of daytime dramas across the dial -- including the end of 'As the World Turns' this September -- it's likely a sign that the soap opera genre is on the endangered species list. Disney intends to replace SoapNet with a channel called Disney Junior, which will be aimed at preschoolers, ages 2-7, according to a report in The New York Times. The lineup will include many current Disney Channel shows like 'Mickey Mouse Club,' 'Handy Manny' and 'Jungle Junction,' as well as feature films like 'Aladdin,' 'The Little Mermaid' and '101 Dalmatians.'
ABC Gives 'One Life to Live' A Vote of Confidence
by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 29th 2010 9:08AM
It's been a tumultuous few months for ABC's daytime drama 'One Life to Live.' Recently, we reported that Tuc Watkins is returning, and they are bringing in a former scribe to be the associate headwriter, and the gay couple -- Kyle and Oliver -- were dumped. All that hubbub had us speculating about the future of 'One Life to Live' in an era when longtime soaps like 'Guiding Light' have been canceled and another legendary daytimer, 'As the World Turns' is ending it's run in September. Well, fans are concerned, too, especially after the story emerged last week about ABC Daytime developing a talk show for Tori Spelling. TV Guide went to the Jori Petersen, the head ABC Daytime PR, to ask if the Spelling show might threaten the future of 'One Life.'
'General Hospital' News: Trouble for Patrick and Robin? Marriage for Johnny and Olivia?
by Michael Maloney, posted Apr 16th 2010 5:00PM
Soap fans that love country music will definitely want to check out Stagecoach in Indio, Calif. on April 24 and 25. The music festival brings together eclectic versions of country music and your favorite ABC daytime actors, including 'General Hospital's' Brandon Barash (Johnny), Jason Thompson (Patrick), Steve Burton (Jason), Kelly Monaco (Sam); 'All My Children's' Bobbie Eakes; and 'One Life to Live's' Kassie DePaiva (Blair) and many others. (A complete list can be found at SOAPnet.com)
AOL TV got a jump on the game by quizzing Thompson and Barash about their Port Charles alter-egos. Read on to get the dish and click on Stagecoach to get info on attending the music fest
Why You Should Give 'Being Erica' a Try
by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 28th 2010 2:01PM
There are so many channels on television today that you may not have noticed a wonderful little hour drama on SOAPNet called 'Being Erica.' If you like 'Drop Dead Diva.' If you go for the characters on 'Glee.' If you care about stories for women but don't go for the Lifetime TV movies. If you can appreciate the differences between American TV and Canadian TV, 'Being Erica' is for you.Starring Erin Karpluk as Erica Strange, a 32-year-old literary editor and wannabe writer, she's a mass of complications in the tradition of all romantic comedy heroines. But 'Being Erica' has a fun, mystical twist to the standard situations we've seen on other shows before.
Days of Our Lives shake-up: It's all about money
by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 21st 2008 3:07PM
Just a couple of weeks ago, all was fine and dandy in Days of Our Lives-world. Or so it seemed. The big fan shindig at Universal in Hollywood seemed to signal that the status quo was holding that the lone NBC soap still in production would be able to use the 18-month renewal granted by NBC to climb in the ratings and return to past glory. Now comes the shocking news that NBC has fired Days of Our Lives' two biggest stars, Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John). By the way, Deidre and Drake were at the fanfest. You think they knew the pink slips were on the way? Um, no.This is all about money, folks, and instead of seeking other ways to trim costs, Executive Producer Ken Corday and company have used a hatchet and chopped off the top salaries. Don't be shocked to hear that more is coming. That could be Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso -- Bo and Hope -- the other iconic romantic couple on the show, right after Marlena and John.
No home for the Daytime Emmys?
by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 19th 2008 9:03AM
There's a real problem brewing for the Daytime Emmys. The annual broadcast which has been switching off from year to year between ABC and CBS, may not make it to prime time because CBS has decided to skip its turn...and ABC is not ready to step up and take on the award show. To some this is simply a symptom of the decline of interest in daytime dramas, which dominate the awards. If you check out my post from last year's show, my assessment is not that the broadcast is the problem, but rather it's the nominations. There are too many repeat winners, too many actors who are overlooked in the nominating process, and too much sameness. The Daytime Emmys problem starts with the awards, not the show.
Still, what about the foreseeable future and the 2009 awards -- will they be shown on TV?
Dirty Sexy Money marathon on September 27
by Debra McDuffee, posted Sep 10th 2008 8:41AM
Perhaps my favorite thing about Dirty Sexy Money is how the stellar acting from the entire cast makes you actually like and feel for this disgustingly rich and seemingly shallow family, the Darlings. Why would anyone love a patriarch who manipulates and plays dirty, in both his business and personal life? Tripp Darling does it, and portrayed by Donald Sutherland, you love him anyway. He's got a sensitivity and down-home kind of style that lets him get away with it all.
Well, good news abounds in television these days: Dexter's third season is about to begin, Bones' fourth season is officially underway and there will be a Dirty Sexy Money marathon -- the whole first season, in order -- on SOAPnet.
TV Squad Soap Report: Why I'm loving SOAPNet's Night Shift
by Allison Waldman, posted Aug 12th 2008 3:00PM
There was no surprise when SoapNet announced that it would be broadcasting another season of the late night spinoff of General Hospital Night Shift. The premiere season was a ratings blockbuster for the cable channel, a big hit with fans and well-received by the critics. What was surprising was news that a new head writer, Sri Rao, would be taking over from Bob Guza, Jr., and that two major players from GH's history -- Tristan Rogers and Antonio Sabato, Jr. -- would be starring in this go-round.
I enjoyed Night Shift, year one, so I was inclined to check it out. I'm thrilled to report that after three episodes, I'm loving Night Shift 2008! Here's five reasons why:
SOAPNet plans Beverly Hills 90210 beach marathon
by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 4th 2008 6:25PM
So Shannen may be coming to the new 90210, and Jennie is definitely in the cast, and Tori will miss the first few episodes because she just had a baby, but generally speaking, there's been lots of buzz and interest in the upcoming, 2008 version of Beverly Hills 90210. While CW gears up for the new, SOAPNet is happy to celebrate the old.
On Saturday, July 26th, SOAPNet will glory in the 50 hottest moments of the original Fox series. From 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., ET/PT, three beach-oriented episodes of the show will be shown back-to-back-to-back, with six interstitials that will reveal from 1-50, the hottest "moments" in BH 90210 history.

Tristan Rogers returns to General Hospital, but on Night Shift
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 22nd 2008 3:21PM
There'll be another big name soap star on the second season of SOAPnet's General Hospital: Night Shift. In addition to Antonio Sabato, Jr. returning as Jagger Cates, Tristan Rogers will join Night Shift, reprising his role as secret agent Robert Scorpio, the Australian spy and former Port Charles police commissioner. His younger brother, Mac, is the current top cop in PC, so expect them to cross paths. However, it's as the father of Dr. Robin Scorpio, played by Kimberly McCullough. Robin, who is HIV-positive, that Robert will mainly drive story. She is currently in the midst of her first pregnancy. You would imagine that Robert's back to check in on his daughter, but there's more to his Night Shift stay.
Michael Logan in TV Guide reports that a rep for Night Shift said that Robert is suffering from "a major health issue that'll have him grappling with his mortality." Instead of Robert caring for Robin -- to trying to -- the situation will be reversed. Dr. Robin will have to treat her father.
"This'll be a real departure wherever it's headed," says Mr. Rogers. "Robert and Robin will finally get a chance to connect as adults."
Antonio Sabato, Jr. checks in to General Hospital - Night Shift
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 18th 2008 11:24AM
SOAPnet has landed a big star to anchor the second season of General Hospital: Night Shift. As TV Squad mentioned previously, Antonio Sabato, Jr., who was rumored to be returning as Jagger Cates, has signed on the dotted line. When Night Shift returns to SOAPnet on Tuesday, July 22, the character of Jagger, played by Antonio Sabato, Jr. will be front and center. Jagger Cates has not been involved in General Hospital since 1995, so presumably he's older and wiser. But since Antonio is still playing the role, he's going to definitely be as gorgeous as ever. Interestingly, if Antonio is booked, what's the likelihood that Steve Burton will be there as Jason?.
