by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 20th 2011 6:45AM
Joplin, Missouri hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons back in May when it was ravaged by a giant tornado that killed 162 people and destroyed an estimated 2,000 buildings. As survivors reeled from the catastrophe they got some good news from the 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' gang, who announced they would help rebuild homes for some of those dispossessed by the tragedy.
In what producers say is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the reality show, 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' started work Wednesday on the ambitious plan to build seven houses in seven days.
'Good Morning America' host Sam Champion was on hand to reveal the names of the deserving families -- some of whom lost children in the disaster -- who will benefit from the new homes. 'GMA' will be reporting on progress throughout the week leading up to Ty Pennington's "Move the bus!" on Oct. 26.
Sam Champion and Bert the Conquerer Interrupt 'GMA' From a Scissor Lift (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 13th 2011 12:30PM
Back in May, Bert Kreischer (of 'Bert the Conqueror') terrified himself and Sam Champion by riding an old wooden roller coaster and a wild amusement park cliff swing. Wednesday on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC), Champion got his little revenge by putting Kreischer on a scissor lift that popped up outside the studio window during a segment.Champion estimated the lift took them three and a half or four stories up. To Kreischer, it felt more like five. "I thought it was just the glare of the light," said Champion, "but Bert is actually bright red." Kreischer pointed out that birds were circling them as Champion said Kreischer genuinely doesn't like heights. "Or being on a fifty-foot roller skate," added Kreischer.
Regardless of Kreischer's overwhelming fear, he did say that Times Square looked "gorgeous" from their vantage point. Gorgeous enough that he wanted to look at it up close, from ground level.

GMA's Sam Champion tells you how to see The Jonas Brothers for free
by Kona Gallagher, posted May 18th 2009 11:25AM
Recently, I got the chance to speak with Sam Champion, the affable Good Morning America weatherman. We chatted a bit about GMA's upcoming Summer Concert Series, which is kicking off on May 22. The free concerts have moved from Bryant Park to Central Park this year, which allows for much larger audiences. So you know what that means, right? More space for screaming throngs of Jonas Brothers fans to gather in a central location this summer. Read the interview to figure out when you need to book your trip to New York, or get the hell out of the city -- depending on your perspective.
