Sandra Lee
I love Sandra Lee but not her new show
by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 25th 2010 5:27PM
Before I go any further I want to say that this isn't another one of those Sandra Lee-bashing articles. I actually like her. Semi-Homemade Cooking is one of my favorite Food Network shows. Having said that, I have a lot of problems with her new (or should I say new-ish) show Money Saving Meals. I mean, seriously, does this show need to exist? I know times are tough for a lot of families right now, but I don't think that we need to figure out our meals to the point where we know how much each serving costs when we cook the meal for our family. She's always talking about how each serving "only cost $1.07" or "if you buy this you'll save 22 cents!"

'Semi-Homemade' Sandra Lee Is Making Homes on 'Extreme Makeover'
by Kim Potts, posted Oct 23rd 2009 6:19PM
You may know her as the perky blonde chef who plans the creative "tablescapes" on Food Network's 'Semi-Homemade' series, but Sandra Lee is the creator of a multimedia cooking and entertaining empire that includes the TV show and a series of books, a recently launched 'Semi-Homemade' magazine, the 'Sandra's Money Saving Meals' series and an upcoming series of holiday specials on HGTV.Lee, whose memoir 'Made From Scratch' details the hardscrabble childhood that led to her career, is bringing her home and family expertise to 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' this Sunday (Oct. 25, 8PM ET, ABC). Lee talked to AOL TV about the family that inspired her to get involved with the show, as well as her new books, her efforts to help families save money and the realization of her lifelong dream of starting her own magazine.
In the Anthony Bourdain vs. Sandra Lee battle, I side with Sandra Lee
by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 14th 2009 7:03PM
I could probably write something about politics, sex, healthcare, education, or religion and it wouldn't be as controversial as what I'm about to say: Anthony Bourdain is wrong and Sandra Lee is right. If you haven't been keeping track of the things Bourdain has been saying about the Food Network host, here's a quick summary. Bourdain wrote some unkind things about Lee and her Semi-Homemade Show (and some other Food Network hosts) a couple of years ago. Among other things he called her "pure evil," a "hell spawn," and said "she must be stopped." Ouch. There's also this video of Bourdain at a food festival dumping on Lee, and now Bourdain has written on his blog about his recent brief encounter with Lee. at the premiere of Julie & Julia.
Food Network cooks up new concept for its new star
by Allison Waldman, posted Aug 4th 2009 10:02AM
If you watched the finale of The Next Food Network Star, you know that homemaker, non-pro cook Melissa D'Arabian was the big winner. Hopefully, you really, really like Melissa and not just the pilot she created for the competition, Kitchen Survival Guide, because Food Network has shucked the concept. That's right, less than 24 hours after cleaning up the confetti, Ms. D'Arabian was handed a new show with a new angle. The title will be Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa D'Arabian.
Three people Kristen Wiig should impersonate on SNL - VIDEOS
by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 3rd 2008 4:55PM

Annie recently posted her top 10 Kristen Wiig Saturday Night Live moments, and I happen to agree that Wiig seems to be one of the SNL MVPs now. Remember just a short time ago when she was in the "featuring" category instead of one of the main players? She's earned it, that's for sure. Even when her impersonations aren't dead on (such as this past weekend's Elisabeth Hasselbeck), you know who she's doing, and she really throws herself into the character. I think her Hasselbeck will get better, and her other impersonations have been just dead-on and brilliant (Judy Garland, Suze Orman, Gloria Swanson, Jamie Lee Curtis).
But I was thinking that there are three other people that would be naturals for Wiig to impersonate.

Bourdain takes on the Food Network
by Julia Ward, posted Feb 12th 2007 11:09AM
Nice guys will always finish last while Anthony Bourdain is on the scene. If you don't the know the chef turned best-selling author and Travel Channel host, than you've been missing out. Bourdain brought gonzo to the kitchen, or out of the kitchen as the case may be. His first tome Kitchen Confidential was a Hunter S. Thompson-inspired machismo trip through the world of haute cuisine. Chefs are bad asses in Bourdain's world of sex, drugs and rock and roll. They are the magic men (and the occasional woman) who conjure the sacred from the profane. The journey between the raw and the cooked is not for the feint of heart. Now that Bourdain's got a few seasons at the Travel Channel under his belt, it's no surprise that he should feel compelled to hold forth on the relative merits of food on television.
Best and worst of 2005: Sarah's list
by Sarah Gilbert, posted Jan 8th 2006 8:42AM
Best:5. The Backyardigans A preschoolers' show I'd watch if I didn't have kids. Yes, when you drove past my house the other day, that was me dancing along to "I love being a princess!"
4. Law & Order: Criminal Intent I thought I couldn't watch the show without Vincent D'Onofrio. But Chris Noth and Annabelle Sciora have the kind of vulnerable-yet-professional chemistry that I never dreamed possible between Chris and Sarah Jessica Parker or Annabelle and James Gandolfini.
3. Grey's Anatomy It's kooky, it's outlandish, and all the characters, I can't help but love 'em despite their annoying peccadilloes. And who knew I'd fall in love with Dr. Bailey?
2. Medium I'd watch it just for the family drama. But the mysteries are fantastic, the writing eloquent and witty, the twists always fool me until 52 past the hour.
1. The 4400 Sci fi that transports, characters that draw me in, and it's coming back in 2006. Hurray!
Worst:
5. Saturday Night Live My husband still gets excited about Saturday nights. Until I remind him, honey, it's just not funny!
4. ER I'm so sad that I hate Thursdays now. I used to love Thursdays.
3. 7:30 p.m. timeslot There's nothing good on at 7:30 p.m., not even on the Food Network. I hate 7:30 p.m.
2. Sandra Lee's Semi-homemade Cooking Make it from scratch or buy it from the store. And either way, aren't we all old enough now to admit whether we can, or cannot, cook?
1. Out of Practice Stockard Channing, Henry Winkler, what have ye wrought?
