Conrad Murray Protests His Innocence, Calls Michael Jackson an Addict on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 11th 2011 1:00PM
Michael Jackson's former doctor, Conrad Murray, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the pop singer's death on Nov. 7. Before the guilty verdict, Murray sat down with Savannah Guthrie for a revealing 'Today' interview that touched on many of the fundamental details presented at the trial.

In the interview, Murray admits that after administering Jackson the surgical sedative Propofol, Murray left the room to talk on the phone for far longer than the two minutes he initially admitted. "I wanted him to rest ... I could not see him from where I was talking," Murray said, later admitting that if Jackson stopped breathing, he would not have been able to hear it.

Donny Deutsch Gets Savannah-Curious in 'Today' Talk About Bi-curious Women (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 25th 2011 12:30PM
A discussion about the Boise State 'bi-curious' women study got a little awkward on 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) as Savannah Guthrie led a panel discussion featuring Starr Jones, Donny Deustch and Dr. Nancy Snyderman. The study says that half of all women are bi-curious, and that 60% of women have been attracted to another woman, but the only thing the panel demonstrated was that Deutsch is kind of into Savannah Guthrie.

From the start, Deutsch had trouble controlling his excitement. "Duh! Duh!," he said after Guthrie read the news. "It's not as natural as a guy being bi-curious," he said. Dr. Nancy Snyderman backed him up.

Al Roker Botches Savannah Guthrie's Name (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 19th 2011 1:30PM
'Today' (9AM ET on NBC) hosts Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie have known each other for years, and Roker apparently has a habit of making fun of her first name behind-the-scenes.

But the inside joke recently slipped out in front of the camera, albeit unintentionally, when Roker accepted a toss from Guthrie by saying, "Thanks so much, Samantha." She and the producers seized on the gaffe immediately, and Guthrie seemed delighted to rub Roker's miscue in.

"I knew you would do it one of these days! ... Finally it leaked out on air ... We caught you," Guthrie teased.

Roker could only respond with resigned laughter. "I was gonna go with Susquehanna," he joked.

'Today' Anchors Prepare for Linda Evans Interview With 'Dynasty'-Style Catfight (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 11th 2011 3:00PM
TV hosts will normally do anything to ensure their hair doesn't get ruffled. But to prepare for their interview tomorrow with former 'Dynasty' star Linda Evans, 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) co-hosts Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie got into an old-fashioned, hair-pulling catfight ... in jest, of course.

After playing footage of the classic 'Dynasty' department store throw-down between Evans and Joan Collins, Guthrie and Morales were inspired to fake slap, hair-pull and strangle each other.

"It looks like so much fun!" Guthrie exclaimed, fighting through laughter.

'Today' Celebrates Oktoberfest With Beer Stein-Holding Contest (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 7th 2011 12:30PM
The 'Today' (weekdays, 9AM ET on NBC) gang celebrated Oktoberfest by playing a classic German game called masskrug, where participants have to hold out a full, 1-liter beer stein parallel to the ground without spilling. It's a physical challenge that traditionally has accompanied a drinking extravaganza.

While twenty minutes is the world record, Al Roker, Ann Curry, Savannah Guthrie all lasted just over a minute. Guest-host Kim Kardashian tapped out first, around the 50 second mark. At one point Matt Lauer busted Al Roker's chops, asking him, "Is that a light beer?"

by Nick Zaino, posted Sep 13th 2011 1:30PM
The cast of 'Big Sexy' on 'Today'"Once you go big, you never go twig." That's the motto and catch phrase for TLC's new show 'Big Sexy,' a reality show that follows plus-sized women in different aspects of the fashion industry. Tuesday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), the cast of the show talked about the show's mission and the affect it may already be having on women with body issues.

Clips showed a plus-sized model frolicking on the beach with a thinner model, and host Savannah Guthrie mentioned a pole dancing episode. "We need to represent different body shapes and sizes and be examples for our younger women," said model Nikki Gomez, "that there are curvy models out there and it's okay to be full-figured."

'Today' Turns Their Patch of NYC Into a Zany Country Fair (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 31st 2011 2:20PM
'Today' becomes a country fairOf all the things that could jump up and scare a woman in a busy city square in New York, it's usually not a frog. But that's what made Savannah Guthrie jump Wednesday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) when Matt Lauer pointed to her feet in mock surprise. 'Today' had turned their outdoor broadcasting space into a country fair that included jumping frogs and hay bale races.

The staff competed in the different events, including a frog jumping contest that predictably went awry when the frogs wouldn't jump in a straight line. They were also entertained by a young banjo player in a bluegrass ensemble.

Jeff Lewis Critiques Natalie Morales's and Savannah Guthrie's Clashing Patterns (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 13th 2011 4:35PM
Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie with Jeff Lewis of 'Flipping Out' on 'Today' Jeff Lewis decorates homes with an eye toward reselling on Bravo's 'Flipping Out.' Wednesday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), Natalie Morales and Savannah Guthrie asked Lewis to critique how well their dresses matched, and the three of them took turns taking joking offense at each other.

Lewis said he was upset at Morales for not watching the last season of 'Flipping Out,' noting that some critics have called his show "the best show you're not watching." "Just because I haven't been returning your phone calls doesn't mean you can't watch," he said.

Then Guthrie asked Lewis to put his fashion sense to use, asking him if two print dresses together on one couch offended his "obsessive-compulsive eye." "I actually don't mind mixing patterns, there's a lot going on here," he told them. If Morales lost the yellow sweater, he thought it might work better. "You've got a great bra on today, by the way," he said to her. "You look great."
