No suspense this year: How I Met Your Mother is renewed

by Allison Waldman, posted Jan 26th 2010 10:35AM
how_I_met_your_mother_couch_castIf you have ever worried that How I Met Your Mother might be canceled by CBS before the identity of "mother" is revealed, this bit of news should bring you great relief. CBS has renewed How I Met Your Mother for a sixth season. I give all fans of the comedy permission to join me now in a hearty "Hooray!"

In all seriousness, this is great news. Two years ago, a renewal for HIMYM wasn't a sure thing. The decision wasn't made until well into the spring. So, clearly, CBS has a new attitude about the Carter Bays-Craig Thomas creation, not to mention liking their work enough to give Bays-Thomas a rich new contract and the opportunity to make another sitcom.

MTV Renews 'The Hills' and 'The City'

'Krisin' on 'The Hills'The bitch is coming back for another season of 'The Hills.'

According to Variety, MTV has renewed 'The Hills' for a sixth season, despite a noticeable dip in the ratings. Also getting a pickup is its east coast spin-off 'The City,' which will return for its second.

This would be only the second season for the show's new lead, HBIC Kristin Cavallari, who joined the cast following the departure of the show's original star, Lauren Conrad. Before her stint on the 'Hills,' she had been better known as Lauren's nemesis on 'Laguna Beach.'

Top Chef: Las Vegas (season premiere)

(S06E01) The producers of Top Chef must have listened to the criticism from the last edition of the show, the one set in New York with the contestants housed in Brooklyn. Despite being in perhaps the most exciting culinary city in the world, TC-NY was pedestrian. Well, Top Chef season six, is in Las Vegas and judging by the premiere, the stakes -- as they said a few times -- have been set very high. The round-up of players was filled with James Beard awardees, Michelin star cooks, people who have restaurants already... and a couple of others who have something to prove.

Would you watch Lexie Grey's Anatomy?

by Michael Pascua, posted Jul 30th 2009 6:01PM
Chyler Leigh as Lexie GreySeason six of Grey's Anatomy is going to be odd. Getting past the fact that T.R. Knight isn't coming back, Ellen Pompeo is pregnant. Shonda Rhimes has mentioned that Meredith will not get pregnant to coincide with Ellen so we'll either get How I Met Your Mother-esque bump hiding, or Meredith will disappear for a while.

The only Grey left is Lexie Grey, Meredith's half-sister. Although her relationship with Mark is interesting to watch, could she carry the show's title albeit temporarily?

Cheers: The Animated Series - VIDEO

by Richard Keller, posted Jul 8th 2008 10:03AM

The Cheers gang gets animated, courtesy of The Simpsons.Do not adjust your web browser. You are now entering the Retro Squad, where we are reviewing past episodes of classic TV shows.

Even when it isn't at its greatest (which, for many fans, hasn't been since season 10) The Simpsons has still provided some great parodies of classic movies and television programs. For instance, in the season four episode "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie" they did a great parody of the Star Trek movie franchise with Star Trek XII: So Very Tired. I still crack up everytime I see the scene where the severely obese Scotty is telling an aged Captain Kirk that he can't push the warp engines any further.

The Shield: Baptism By Fire

(S06E02) As I was watching this episode I couldn't help but think how ironic it was how Kavanaugh went out of his way to make Mackey look sloppy, when I think Kavanaugh was being the sloppy one all along. How long could he keep up that charade? How long could he keep Amoya under his control and not looking incredibly suspicious?

Meanwhile, as Kavanaugh continues his witch hunt against Mackey (it does feel like a witch hunt, doesn't it?), Vic continued a witch hunt of his own. Though Vic was into being the judge and jury, Kavanaugh was just playing judge.

The Shield season six -- An early look

the shield season six
Recently Jonathan and I got on the phone with The Shield's Walton Goggins, but if you read the interview you'll note we hadn't yet seen the first six episodes released to the press. Having now seen those episodes, I think our line of questioning would have been quite different.

The first fifteen minutes of The Shield's new season

by Keith McDuffee, posted Feb 15th 2007 9:03AM
the shield lem casketJonathan mentioned a few weeks ago that Bud TV would be debuting a sort of "bridge episode" of The Shield. The 15-minute short is now available for viewing on the site, and after viewing it I'd say it plays a lot more like the first fifteen minutes of the new season premiere.

For those who are sad to see Lem gone from the series, this short video will only make you hate what Shane did with even more passion. Read on for a short rundown of what goes on in the video (image to the right is a little teaser for you).

Production begins on sixth season of Family Guy

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 5th 2007 4:03PM

seth macfarlaneTwo and a half months ago, when negotiations between 20th Century Fox and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane reached a standstill, the writers for the series were told not to report to work. According to Variety, the suits at 20th Century Fox didn't want to stop production midway because a deal was never solidified, despite the fact MacFarlane's contract wasn't up for several months.

Vivica A. Fox joins Curb Your Enthusiasm

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 4th 2006 4:51PM

Vivica A. Fox will be joining the cast of Curb Your Enthusiasm for the show's sixth season, which kicks off next year. According to Hollywood Reporter, there's not much information, though information points to Fox playing the member of a black family who moves into the David's home after a natural disaster. So there you go, Vivica A. Fox will be playing a black woman, and frankly, I couldn't be happier. I was starting to grow tired of seeing her constantly playing an elderly Chinese man.

The storyline is meant to spoof the events of Hurricane Katrina, as well as race relations. I imagine we can look forward to Larry saying something incredibly inappropriate. The article doesn't mention whether Fox's character will stay on the show or whether she'll only be part of this specific storyline.

Scrubs on track for a sixth season

by Anna Johns, posted Apr 10th 2006 10:41AM
zach braff; scrubsThe future of Scrubs seemed a little iffy earlier this season, when NBC shelved it until after the New Year. Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and star Zach Braff talked a lot about how the entire staff went whole hog because they thought this might be the last season, and how they could end up on ABC if NBC doesn't want them anymore. He sort-of says it in this New York Times article, but Bill Lawrence flat-out told E! that he's confident Scrubs will have a season six, whether it's on NBC or ABC. And, it's probably not leaving NBC any time soon.

Scrubs' ratings have been admirable so far this season (since new episodes started airing in January). Until American Idol started, it was averaging 8 million viewers a night. Those numbers are down, but still impressive. And, Scrubs is doing well that that key demographic: 18-49 viewers.

I guess Scrubs will be around long enough for us to find out the name of Turk and Carla's baby!

[Thanks, Nawfal!]
