When 'Sister Wives' debuted on TLC in 2010, it meant that Kody Brown and his four wives, Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn, were opening themselves up to scrutiny under Utah's anti-polygamy laws. Tuesday, 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC) reported that the Brown family are indeed under investigation by the state of Utah, and that they plan to mount a legal challenge to the state's laws that criminalize polygamy.'GMA' reports that the Brown family will file their suit Wednesday. Jonathan Turley, a constitutional lawyer representing the family, was quoted in the piece saying, "We believe that this case represents the strongest factual and legal basis for a challenge to the criminalization of polygamy ever filed in the public courts."
Polygamy is considered a felony punishable by jail time in Utah. Season two of 'Sister Wives' debuted in March to improved ratings over the first season. Count on TLC to keep the cameras rolling during the impending legal battle.
