'Something Pitchy:' 'American Idol' Season 10 Ends on a High Note

by Hilary Rothing, posted May 26th 2011 2:36AM
We may not have been psyched about tonight's finale but a number of great performances and self-parodying clips had us clapping along and laughing out loud at this season 10 finale show. With no real drama surrounding the Scotty/Lauren race, the final hours of season 10 put the focus on a parade of fantastic guest appearances and performances. What other show can give you Tom Jones, Kirk Franklin, Judas Priest and Lady Gaga, all in the same night?!

Find out what myself, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (MJs Big Blog) have to say as we put season 10 to bed and look ahead at what's next for 'American Idol,' as well Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, in this post-finale edition of AOL TV's 'American Idol' talk show 'Something Pitchy!'

'Something Pitchy:' Most Boring 'American Idol' Finale Ever?

by Hilary Rothing, posted May 25th 2011 1:22AM

Nothing against Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina but we can't help it if 2/3rds of the 'Something Pitchy' crew thought tonight's finale performances were dullsville. Though MJ and myself thought one of the teens dominated tonight's show, we're all still standing by our predictions for the season 10 winner.

Spicing up tonight's lackluster hour was the pre-show drama surrounding Lauren Alaina's strained vocal chords. Was there a real possibility of Haley Reinhart swooping in to face Scotty or was it all just another clever PR rouse from 'Idol' mastermind, Nigel Lythgoe?

Find out what myself, MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) and Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) have to say about Lauren's Laryngitis, Scotty going "Big(?)" and which teen will take season 10 in this post-Top 2 performances edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy!'

The 'American Idol' season 10 finale airs tonight at 8PM ET on FOX.

'Something Pitchy:' 'American Idol' Top 3 Semi-Final Marathon!

by Hilary Rothing, posted May 19th 2011 1:47AM
We're down to the Top 3, with just Haley, Scotty and Lauren holding onto a shot at the 'American Idol' crown. Tonight, the trio performed a selection of songs chosen by themselves, the judges and Jimmy Iovine. With Beyonce dropping by to hand-hold during the first round of performances, the pressure was on.

Who's really "in it to win it"? We've got a few thoughts on that, as well as some interesting tidbits on country radio's reaction to down home favorite, Scotty McCreery, plus who'll be around for next week's finale showdown. Find out what myself, MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) and Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) have to say about tonight's two-hour, nine performances marathon on this post-Top 3 edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy.'

'Something Pitchy:' Did James Durbin Get Daughtry'd?

by Hilary Rothing, posted May 13th 2011 1:31AM
After flipping a coin between Haley and Lauren, none of us were expecting America to let James Durbin go down in flames, tonight. But fame is a fickle...well, you know and James isn't the first late game finalist to get smacked in the face by fans' shifting loyalties. In fact, James may find the Adam Lambert comparisons lessening in favor of Chris Daughtry, whose Top 4 elimination earned him an entry in the 'Idol' lexicon.

Did James Durbin leave the competition too soon? Is Scotty McCreery the second coming of Taylor Hicks? Is there a snowball's chance in hell of an-all girl finale? Myself, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) tackle these questions and more in this post-Top 4 results show edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy!'

'Something Pitchy:' It's an 'American Idol' Therapy Session!

by Hilary Rothing, posted May 12th 2011 1:48AM
Sure, it's called 'American Idol' not 'Attitude Idol' but can anyone blame Haley Reinhart for giving it back to Randy and J.Lo after they not only slammed her for the umpteenth time, but also compared her to golden boy, James Durbin?

Myself, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (mjsbigblog.com) are just as perplexed as Haley, herself. Only more puzzling is Randy's assessment of James Durbin, comparing his screamy Journey cover to an Olympic performance. Factor in the record number of Randy Jackson catchphrases repeated over the course of this evening's ninety-minute performance show and you'll begin to understand why this post Top 4 edition of 'Something Pitchy' felt more like group therapy than our usual lively discourse on 'American Idol!'

What did you guys think about tonight's performances? Talk back to us in the comments, we promise you won't get voted off for it!

'Something Pitchy:' The Lusky Stank Is Lifted, J.Lo Travels Through Time and Jimmy Battles the Judges!

by Hilary Rothing, posted May 6th 2011 1:15AM
Ah, the time has finally come. America, who has clearly "fallen in love" with Jacob Lusk, couldn't look itself in the mirror, anymore. Jacob and his "Lusky Stank" have left the 'Idol' building, but not without drawing every cat and dog in the Los Angeles area toward the 'Idoldome,' first.

Myself, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) get in the sharing circle about the results (one of us even created a special tribute to Jacob, involving a cell phone! Guess who!), Lauren Alaina's brush with 'Idol' elimination, J.Lo's ability to defy time and space with a pre-taped performance and Jimmy's possible beef with the judges, in this post-Top 5 elimination show edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy!'

'Something Pitchy:' Why's Everybody Always Hatin' on Haley?

by Hilary Rothing, posted May 5th 2011 11:50AM
Tonight, the 'Something Pitchy' crew was truly a house divided. While a certain someone loved the Top 5 performances, especially James Durbin's tearful emoting and Jacob Lusk's split personality, others felt "Now and Then" was more like "Never Again!"

But there's one thing we can all agree on; Haley Reinhart is getting hoodwinked! Yes, Randy and his two new friends finally gave it up for Haley, but the praise was long overdue.

As for those of you who say we're too hard on Jacob Lusk, be warned! We tried to hold back, but the Lusky stank was just too strong, tonight!

Find out what myself, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) had to say about tonight's "Now and Then" two-for-one special in this post Top 5 edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy!'

'Something Pitchy:' Who Is Voting for Jacob Lusk?! Will Jimmy Iovine Judge Next Season?

by Hilary Rothing, posted Apr 29th 2011 1:17AM
After some technical issues last night, we're back for a super-Pitchy discussion of the Top 6 performances and tonight's elimination results. And with Casey Abrams gone, we're left to wonder just who Jacob Lusk's fanbase is? Make yourselves known!

Also on our minds, tonight, is Jimmy Iovine's growing role on 'Idol.' Will he be back as a judge next season? And what's up with Randy's hot and cold attitude about Haley Reinhart? Find out what I, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) have to say about all the 'Idol' issues of the day in this post-Top 6 edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy!'

Something Pitchy: 'American Idol' Has Us Singin' the Blues

by Hilary Rothing, posted Apr 15th 2011 12:12AM
Tonight's elimination came as no surprise. But still, we're sad to see Season 10's good time guy, Paul McDonald, go.

The fact that we've still got six weeks of mediocre talent and judges hopped up on happy pills doesn't sit well with the 'Something Pitchy' crew. Where's the drama? Where's the talent? Where's Simon?!

Find out what Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org), MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) and I think the remainder of the season holds -- and more importantly, how we'll get through it, in this bummed out, post-Top 8 elimination edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy!'

Something Pitchy: Judges Ruining Show, J.Lo Most Beautiful Woman in the World

by Hilary Rothing, posted Apr 14th 2011 2:13AM
Tonight's 'Something Pitchy' was more like a therapy session than our usual post-show discussion. An hour-and-a-half of non-stop, repetitive saccharine sweet praise and virtually no real criticism will drive any 'Idol' fan to the looney bin. One member of the 'Something Pitchy' crew was nearly inconsolable at the start of tonight's discussion! Drama!

Find out what Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org), MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) and I had to say about the non-judging, J.Lo's supreme beauty, and one man's fight to save Stefano Langone on this post-Top 8 edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, 'Something Pitchy!'

Something Pitchy: Pia Toscano Eliminated, Idolverse Implodes!

by Hilary Rothing, posted Apr 8th 2011 4:52PM
And we thought Casey Abrams' elimination drama was shocking! Apparently, no one voted for poor Pia Toscano, the flawless balladeer from Howard Beach, New York. Meanwhile, Rickey's favorite, Stefano Langone gets to continue working on his eye contact issues next week, with "Movie Night." Sigh.

With only two girls left in the competition, season 10 of 'American Idol' is looking like a real "sausage fest" right now. Find out what myself, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) have to say about Pia's premature departure and what exactly led up to it, in this post-second-shocking-elimination-of-the-season edition of AOL's 'American Idol' talk show, "Something Pitchy!"

Something Pitchy: Was Tim Halperin Robbed and Who the Heck Is Haley Reinhart?

by Hilary Rothing, posted Mar 4th 2011 5:30PM
Well we've got our Top 13 and as far I'm concerned, there's a few glaring omissions, namely Tim Halperin and Lauren Turner.

Also missing from last night's results show? David Cook's boot song which was officially announced earlier in the day. Also, the mysterious, fan-selected ending to J.Lo's, ahem, highly anticipated new video. Granted, myself, Rickey Yaneza (Rickey.org) and MJ Santilli (MJ's Big Blog) weren't paying much attention...

However, there were a few twists and turns in this first two-hour live show that did catch our attention, like America voting in the largely ignored Haley Reinhart and the judges passing out a wild card to Jovany Barreto and passing up Tim Halperin.

Your usual trio of 'Idol' obsessives weigh in on this and more in this post-finalists edition of "Something Pitchy!"

Something Pitchy: Is 'American Idol's' Lauren Alaina Really 'The One'?

by Hilary Rothing, posted Jan 28th 2011 4:00PM
Only two weeks into the season 10 auditions and we've already got "the one"? That's what the judges seemed to think after 15-year-old Georgia sweet peach Lauren Alaina busted out a little Faith Hill.

Myself and guest Rickey Yaneza of Rickey.org discuss Alaina's performance as well as last night's impressive trio of Hollywood-bound country boys, Paul McDonald, Danny Pate and Matt Dillard. We also weigh-in on the new panel of judges, as they start to settle into Simon Cowell's very large shoes in this edition of the Something Pitchy 'Idol' Show.

Something Pitchy: 'American Idol' Finds Another Heartbreak Kid in Chris Medina

by Hilary Rothing, posted Jan 27th 2011 2:30PM
Our good pal, Rickey Yaneza of popular 'American Idol' blog, Rickey.org joins us this week to discuss 'Idol's' trip to Milwaukee, hometown of season eight favorite, Danny Gokey. On our minds this morning-after is the story of Chris Medina, a struggling musician with a heartbreaking story that has the 'Idol'-verse divided. Have the producers gone too far in their quest to showcase "sob stories?" And will Medina's obvious talent be overshawed by his tragic story? Rickey and I discuss this and more, including last night's comic relief and a few Top 40 spoilers!

Something Pitchy: Talking 'American Idol' Season 10 Premiere

by Hilary Rothing, posted Jan 20th 2011 7:18PM
We're not sure about you guys, but we couldn't stop talking about last night's 'American Idol' premiere ... so we didn't.

You can read our early reaction to J.Lo and Steven Tyler's big debut here and check out clips of a bunch of our favorite contestants while you're at it. We know he's not going to Hollywood, but Michael Jackson-devotee Yohji "Pop's" unlikely Miley Cyrus cover had us smiling all day. And Britney-wannabe Ashley Sullivan's audition will forever be burned into our brains -- and eardrums.

But what of Steven Tyler and J.Lo's first 'Idol' outting? Unlike previous seasons, our attention was more focused on the judges than the contestants. Myself and TV Squad Editor-in-Chief Sandra Deane give you our take on that and more in this first 'American Idol' Season 10 edition of 'SomethingPitchy!"
