Married to the Mob? Jason Proposes to Sam on 'General Hospital'

by Michael Maloney, posted Jul 20th 2011 11:00AM
Steve Burton and Kelly MonacoHe's had unsuccessful marriages to Courtney and Brenda, but the third time may be the charm for Jason (Steve Burton) on 'General Hospital.'

The hunky mobster is going to put on his best black t-shirt and propose to long-time girlfriend Sam this week.

In the past, the couple's agreed to keep things the way they are given their adventurous lifestyles -- he's a mobster and she's a private eye. Thanks to some prodding from Maxie and, of course, some deep reflection on the potential groom's part, Jason appears ready to take the plunge. Tune in on Thursday to see if marriage-shy Sam will accept the proposal or shoot him down. (Figuratively speaking, of course!)

Will Lucky Trade Brenda for Siobhan on 'General Hospital'?

by Michael Maloney, posted Nov 8th 2010 5:40PM
Jonathan Jackson as LuckyLucky's in a bind on 'General Hospital.'

Luke and Laura's son, who's been masquerading as Irishman Ronan O'Reilly (and doing a fine Irish accent in the process), attempts to pull a fast one on the mysterious Balkan Tue., Nov. 9 when he attempts to "exchange" Brenda for kidnapped ladylove Siobhan. With the aid of snipers Jason and Dante, Lucky hopes to save both women.

The action-filled showdown involves gunfire and fight scenes. While soaps are taped at a rapid pace today, the production team at 'GH' carefully rehearsed the climatic moment with the actors playing Lucky, Brenda, Siobhan and the bad guys.

"In terms of our regular acting scenes we move really, really fast," Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) told TV Squad. "But for the stunts they want to make sure everyone's safe and all the precautions are in place."

'General Hospital's' Steve Burton Hits the Road with 'Port Chuck'

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 7th 2010 3:30PM
Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo and Steve BurtonSteve Burton's mob character, Jason Morgan, on 'General Hospital' is turning in his gun for a microphone. The actor has formed a cover band called 'Port Chuck' with castmates Scott Reeves (who plays Steven Lars), Brandon Barash (Johnny) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and they're going on tour starting Wed., Sept. 8 in Nashville. (Check www.portchuck.com for dates and cities.)

Jason's on the move, too. The week of Sept. 13 he'll travel to Rome to track down ex-wife Brenda Barrett, played by returning fan favorite Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo. While Brenda's one-true love is Sonny and Jason's heart belongs to Sam (and Elizabeth, too), there's no denying that Jason and Brenda share a surprising 'Moonlighting'-style banter that 'GH' plans to tap into.

Burton talked to TV Squad about the origins of his cover band, revisiting Brenda and which dearly departed Quartermaine family member he'd like to see return to the show.

Who will die? Check out James Franco's General Hospital promo

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 11th 2009 6:02PM
franco_general_hospitalThe James Franco experiment has begun on General Hospital. Actually, we have now learned that the movie actor, best known for Spider-Man and Milk and The Pineapple Express, has decided to do a two-month guest role on the ABC soap opera as part of a project he's doing with a filmmaker named Carter.

Franco and Carter are making a documentary called Erased James Franco. His guest turn on 30 Rock may also be part of the movie. Nobody knows for certain.

One thing I do know for certain is that ABC is taking Franco's appearance on GH very seriously. They're working around his schedule, giving him a strangely interesting character to play, and promoting it like mad.

'General Hospital' Cast Interviews

by Maggie Furlong, posted Feb 2nd 2009 6:00AM
"[Fans] really liked the Metro Court, and if they liked the Metro Court, then this is gonna blow their minds. I can't wait!" -- Sonya Eddy

I'd like to thank the Academy, and a special thanks to Mitch and Richard -- you know who you are -- and all of my amazing co-stars on 'General Hospital,' without whom none of this would be possible ...

Today's the day you can actually see my split-second, two-line part as Nurse No. 3 on 'General Hospital.' OK, so it's hardly award-worthy, but I did manage to get some time to chat with the cast of pros at 'GH' while I was on set, including series regulars Kimberly McCullough, Steve Burton, Sonya Eddy, Rebecca Herbst, Jason Thompson, Greg Vaughan, Sarah Brown and Bruce Weitz.

Daytime fans, here's your scoop: If you think this big bio-toxin storyline is over, you better keep watching -- the chemical exposure and mass illness at 'GH' is just the beginning. What happens next can only be described as explosive and it'll definitely shake things up in Port Charles ... more than any alien friend, paternity secret or mobster hit ever could. Keep clicking to hear all about it, and more, straight from the stars. -- By Maggie Furlong

On the Set: 'General Hospital'

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jan 27th 2009 6:00AM
What's it like to be a soap opera star? Maggie took a role on 'General Hospital' to find out.

Luke and Laura. Sonny and Brenda. Anthony Zacchara and Nurse No. 3. OK, so Port Charles' mob boss and yours truly might not be the next great duo on 'General Hospital,' but we will share a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene together on Monday, Feb. 2.

I got to spend the day on the 'GH' set, chatting with the show's stars, touring the ever-evolving set at Prospect Studios in Hollywood and, yes, filming a cameo appearance as Nurse No. 3 (dubbed Allison Ivy, RN, by wardrobe for my hospital-issue photo ID badge) in the show's big spring sweeps storyline.

What's it like to be a soap opera star? Keep clicking to hear all about my stint as a daytime player. And don't forget to check back on Feb. 2 to hear from the show's biggest stars and get more scoop on the big, series-changing storyline that'll rock the hospital.

TV Squad Soap Report: General Hospital gets graded

by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 10th 2008 3:21PM
logoIt's report card time. From time to time, the TV Squad Soap Report will take a look at a show and grade it accordingly. This week, we'll look at General Hospital -- you know, sort of take its temperature. To put it bluntly, General Hospital needs some intensive care. The show is suffering from post-dramatic stress disorder, not traumatic, dramatic. I'm speaking specifically of the shooting of Michael Corinthos, Jr.

Intellectually and from a writer's point of view, I understand why Robert Guza, Jr. -- the head writer -- decided to do this story. It's caused a major upheaval in the Jason-Carly-Sonny-Jax quadrangle. The situation he created, for those who haven't been watching, is this: Sonny's new love, Kate, urged Sonny to bring Michael to the coffee warehouse so he could see the legitimate side of his father's business interests and presumably be impressed enough to want to emulate him. Sonny had been worried that Michael was on the path to becoming a mini-mobster.
