MTV's shopping spree shows no sign of stopping just yet. After buying up five new scripted shows over the summer it's been announced that the network has also greenlighted a pilot for the U.S. version of hit British comedy 'The Inbetweeners.'According to deadline.com, Brad Copeland ('Arrested Development,' 'My Name Is Earl') has been tapped as writer/ showrunner/ executive producer, marking his return to TV full-time after a stint in features. The search for actors to play the leads in the pilot is being led by the people who cast blockbuster feature comedy 'The Hangover.'
Described as a cross between 'Freaks and Geeks' and 'Superbad,' 'The Inbetweeners' has been a huge hit in the U.K. and was the subject of a fierce bidding war between networks. David Janollari, EVP of scripted development at MTV, described it as "one of the best comedies to come out of the U.K. in years. ... It's unique and bold, its approach to contemporary teen coming-of-age stories is universal and simply hilarious, and it will resonate immensely with our core demographic."
New Year brings Inbetweeners sitcom to BBC America
by John Scott Lewinski, posted Dec 5th 2009 1:01PM
One of the best British comedies you've never heard of is headed to BBC America in early 2010.The Inbetweeners features a handful of awkward young men constantly stuck, well, "in between" childhood and adulthood, loneliness and popularity, romance and dignity, etc. The electric wit of the show's dialogue helped it knock down "Best New Sitcom of 2008" at the British Comedy Awards.
Written and created by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris (Peep Show, Flight of the Conchords). the show stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison as the hopelessly awhward teens struggling through a new school in suburban Britain.
