'Tudors' Star Jonathan Rhys Meyers Found Guilty of Threatening to Kill Cops

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 17th 2011 7:30AM
Jonathan Rhys MyersTroubled 'Tudors' star Jonathan Rhys Meyers was found guilty yesterday of threatening to kill three French policemen. The AFP reports that a court in the suburban French town of Bobigny handed Rhys Meyers a one-month suspended sentence and ordered him to pay a 1,000-euro ($1,351) fine for a drunken altercation with police at a Paris airport.

The 34 year-old actor launched the attack in a bar at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris back in 2009. The court heard how he first struck and cursed at a barman who had refused to pour him a drink. Rhys Meyers, who was described in court as being "extremely aggressive" at the time, then abused the gendarmes who arrived to arrest him, screaming "I'm going to give a million dollars to ruin your life. I'll kill you and your family."

The King Prepares to Die on 'The Tudors' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Jun 21st 2010 6:05AM
The TudorsIt's been a long road for King Henry on 'The Tudors' (Sun., 9PM ET on Showtime), and he hasn't aged well. He's had all sorts of health problems, and the time has come for him to bid farewell to his family.

And let's face it. It can't be easy for a handsome actor like Jonathan Rhys-Meyers to see himself age on screen right before his very eyes. Downright frightening, I'd say!

A Heretic Is Tortured on 'The Tudors' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jun 14th 2010 7:26AM
Tortured Heretic on 'The Tudors'On 'The Tudors' (Sun., 9PM ET on SHO), Bishop Gardiner accuses Henry VIII's wife Catherine Parr of being a heretic. The king then gives permission to torture a heretic woman for information -- in a way now commonly considered the most painful form of medieval torture. (This one's not for the queasy.)

[Spoiler alert.]

With arms and legs tied to a wooden rack, a woman's limbs are stretched apart. Her torturer asks her, "Which of the ladies of her majesty's chamber sent you monies or promises of relief?" Silence.

Another says, "We want to know which of the Queen's ladies share your beliefs, or if the Queen herself does." Silence.

Though they're told it is "absolutely against the King's law to rack a woman," the stretching and dislocation of her limbs continues...

Watch a Preview of Showtime's 'The Borgias'

by Jane Murphy, posted Jun 3rd 2010 3:08PM
Power, sex, and lots of red velvet. Showtime found success with the royal saga of 'The Tudors' and will now reach back a few decades to examine another dysfunctional ruling family. 'The Borgias' is slated for a 2011 debut and will replace 'The Tudors' in Showtime's lineup.

Whether you're 20 years old, or 420, you may have heard "Lucrezia Borgia" used as an insult. Lucrezia's reputation as a promiscuous murderess has endured since the 15th century. But the centerpiece of Showtime's drama will be Lucrezia's father, Rodrigo. Played by Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons ('Reversal of Fortune'), the scheming Rodrigo is elected Pope in 1492.

It seems Canada's flagship channel, CBC, is sticking to its guns. Or roots. Or skates. The TV station announced its fall 2010 lineup last week, and there are a lot of familiar faces for Canadians to watch come autumn. Many fan faves are returning, and there are a few newbies showing up on the block.

'The Tudors' - 'Season Four Premiere' Recap (Season Premiere)

The Tudors, Season 4 Premiere
(S04E01) "My lady, you must give men leave to look, because they will look upon you. There is no hope for it." - Thomas Culpepper to Queen Katherine

What I love about 'The Tudors' is that there's really no other show on TV like it right now. It's not a crime show, a hospital show, a cop show, a family drama, a situation comedy, a sci-fi show or a reality show. I guess you'd classify it as historical drama, but it's so well done. Everything is top notch, from the costumes to the locations (it's shot in Ireland) to the music and, most definitely, the cast.

'The Tudors' Season 4: Mid-Life Crisis, Illicit Affairs and the Series Finale

by Anna Dimond, posted Apr 11th 2010 2:00PM
Illicit affairs, political intrigue and a teen vixen are in the royal mix when 'The Tudors' returns to Showtime tonight at 9PM ET for its fourth and final season.

The show, which depicts the history and personal life of King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) in lurid detail, begins season 4 just as the king has married his fifth wife, the 17-year-old Katherine Howard (Tamzin Merchant). Lacking royal lineage and prone to the type of behavior befitting girls her age, Howard's poor behavior catches up with her, and her eventual execution leaves the King to marry for a sixth and final time.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Stirs Up Trouble on 'The Martha Stewart Show' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 3rd 2010 2:00AM
Martha Stewart, Jonathan Rhys MeyersIf only Martha Stewart had been around during the time of Henry VIII. She might have changed the whole course of the English monarchy.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who plays the controversial king on 'The Tudors,' was stirring up more than just good eats on 'The Martha Stewart Show' today.

"If I had been one of your wives," said Martha, pounding her fist on the counter, "you would have been in trouble! You would have been a better king!"

Not only that, I'm sure she could have done some creative things with the head of a pig, as well.

New TV DVDs for Dec. 15: 'Robot Chicken,' 'The Tudors' and More

by Scott Harris, posted Dec 15th 2009 9:48AM
One of the best parts of the holiday season is the return of some of television's most beloved animated classics. Shows like, for instance, 'A Charlie Brown Christmas,' 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and, of course, 'Robot Chicken.'

Okay, so maybe 'Robot Chicken' isn't quite your father's stop-motion show, but retailers around the nation are about to find out how today's brand of animation stacks up against favorites of the past as several offbeat animated series get the DVD treatment. But don't worry, if cartoons aren't your thing, we've also dug up some releases from other genres that will make some of the best gifts this side of the Island of Misfit Toys.

Star TrekHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I think I might have asked this question before, but I'll ask it again: just how many Star Trek (original series) sets are there? There seems to be a new one released every few months. I know there are Blu-ray sets being released now, but at what point does even the most die-hard Trek fan say enough is enough and they're not going to buy any more? A friend of mine loves Star Trek and seems to buy every new version of the show that comes out.

Sesame Street DVDHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I'm always amazed at how many seasons JAG lasted. It started on NBC in 1995 then went to CBS, and I really thought it was the type of show that wouldn't last beyond three seasons, but it lasted ten! I thought the same thing about NCIS, and look at what happened there too. Obviously I don't do well predicting how shows with all caps in their titles will do.

  • Batman: The Brave and the Bold - Vol. 2
  • Dawson's Creek - Complete Series
