Dr. Stork Gives Stress-Relief Advice on 'The Early Show' (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Sep 13th 2011 4:15PM
One of the chief questions that preoccupies us in modern times is, how do we relieve stress? That question was put to Dr. Travis Stork of 'The Doctors' Tuesday morning on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM on CBS) in a viewer Q&A segment. The man said he had a stressful job and found it hard to relax when he got home, and asked how he could tell he might need to see a doctor about it.Dr. Stork's advice? "If you're getting to the point where you're emotionally exhausted," he said, "completely burnt out, you're starting to feel depressed and sad all the time, if you're having insomnia and you can't sleep at night, that's when you need to go seek help."
'The Doctors' Frighteningly Demonstrate Scrotal Surgery (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 30th 2011 2:45PM
Sometimes guys can be shy about asking their own doctors about, well, stuff that has to do with their "privates." Which may be why 'The Doctors' (weekdays, syndicated) decided to devote a good portion of Thursday's to the subject. The title of the show was 'All About Your Privates,' and featured a frightening demonstration of scrotal surgery. One caller, the otherwise anonymous "John," asked what he could do about his excess scrotum skin. The doctors explained a surgical procedure to trim off the redundant skin using a small bag and a pair of scissors to demonstrate. They were careful to note the procedure is done under anesthesia. We're not sure why they didn't think we'd assume that, but that didn't make the image any less terrifying.
Then there was another lesson on vascular processes as they relate to male genitals during orgasm, which noted that if you have erectile dysfunction, it is a vascular and not a muscular problem. To be fair, watching this show could also cause erectile dysfunction.

Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk was on the latest episode of 'The Doctors' (weekdays, syndicated) to talk to a fan -- a young boy named Justin in Hershey, Pa., who is suffering from cancer. Justin has apparently had two bouts with cancer, and his strength shines through in a videotaped message to other children with the disease: "So if you hear this, cancer kids -- be strong, don't be scared, have courage, and fight the cancer."

Did 'The Doctors' Trick A Man Into Penis Surgery?
by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 7th 2010 7:30PM
If this story weren't so strange, you would swear it was a FunnyorDie.com sketch. It could be a 'Saturday Night Live' bit, but their stuff is rarely this hilarious. Tyler Bowling, a 21-year-old Minnesotan who had a condition that caused white pimples to appear on his penis, received a free laser treatment for removal of the penile papules when he consulted with Dr. William Groff in Los Angeles. The $4,500 procedure was done gratis in exchange for Tyler's story to be told on CBS's syndicated daytime show, 'The Doctors.' However, Tyler Bowling is filing suit against the doctor, his practice, the producers of 'The Doctors' and even the company that created the laser that was used to fix his problems, claiming he was tricked into getting the work done and becoming the fodder for the TV show.
'General Hospital' Casts Michael Learned and Unveils New Credits
by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 26th 2010 1:02PM
What do you get when you turn 12,000 episodes old? Why, a new set of opening credits, naturally. That's what'll happen today as 'General Hospital' unveils a new set of opening credits to coincide with the milestone occasion. By the way, if you're wondering, 'GH's' 12,000 episodes equates to nearly 47 years of continuing daytime drama. The show began on April 1, 1963, and it was not an April's Fool joke. It was something different at the time, because most of the soaps were New York based.
In fact, on the same day 'GH' launched, NBC premiered a new medical soap, too, out of New York. It was called 'The Doctors,' and for the first decade or so 'GH' and 'The Doctors' were on TV, the NBC show was a better soap. However, all that changed in 1978 when Gloria Monty became executive director... which led to the Luke and Laura sensation.

MSNBC drops Dr. Nancy daytime show
by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 28th 2009 4:12PM
Sort of lost in the shuffle of the pre-Christmas news was this item. MSNBC has cancelled the Dr. Nancy show. What? You didn't even know there was a Dr. Nancy show starring NBC medical/health expert Dr. Nancy Snyderman? Don't worry. Most people weren't either. MSNBC plopped Dr. Nancy at 12 noon on June 29 and then did next to nothing to promote the show. Even if MSNBC had done some publicity, it may not have helped. MSNBC daytime is a major problem for the network. They've been juggling and re-juggling the personalities, but nothing has worked. So while Dylan Ratigan is getting another slot on the channel, Dr. Nancy will return to her work as NBC's chief medical editor doing the NBC News and Today.
'The Doctors' Discuss So-Called 'Blackberry Thumb' (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Dec 8th 2009 4:00PM
Text addicts can breathe a sigh of relief: According to 'The Doctors,' there's nothing yet that conclusively proves the existence of the condition "Blackberry Thumb." It's been argued that the condition is a repetitive stress injury caused by excessive use of handheld devices, and that pain in the wrist and thumb, and even osteoarthritis, can result.

Barbra Streisand talks to The Doctors
by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 16th 2009 11:30AM
There will be an interesting guest checking in with The Doctors today -- Barbra Streisand. No, the singer/actress/director won't be talking about dry throat or stage fright or even tinnitus, an ailment she suffers from that causes an unending high-pitched ringing in the ears. Barbra Streisand is calling in to The Doctors to discuss heart health awareness for women... and even though I've never watched The Doctors, I will today. I guess that's why and how celebrity helps causes like this. It draws attention and, presumably, I'm going to get something of value out of tuning in. I've already had my eyes opened.
'The Doctors': Candy-Crazed Kids Could Turn Violent (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Nov 9th 2009 12:45PM
'The Doctors' discuss a new study establishing a link between kids who eat large amounts of candy and their likelihood to commit violent crimes in adulthood. But before you decide to toss what remains of your child's Halloween candy, parents should know the study focuses on large, daily doses of candy, not what children typically consume during the holiday. The panel on 'The Doctors' seems to disagree whether the cause is ultimately related to sugar or insulin levels, or whether daily treats set an expectation in children that manifests in violence later in life when denied something. One thing is certain, however; parents now have a reason other than tooth decay to limit the amount of candy their children eat.

Couldn't this cougar senior citizen just get her nose done like everyone else? Nyet, comrade.Watch the video after the jump.
Syndication Ads: Are we hooked on Big Macs, Cheetos and Drugs?
by Jane Boursaw, posted Jun 19th 2008 2:01PM
TV syndication upfront ad sales are brisk, with syndicators expected to sell higher levels of ad inventory, similar to the broadcast networks. Sales are more than 50% complete, with one syndicator, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, more than 70% sold out of its 2008-09 ad inventory, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What's it all mean? It means that syndication upfront totals are expected to be around $2.4 billion, up 4.5% from last year.
Maybe one reason is that syndicators are incorporating more product integration into their packages, especially with talk and entertainment shows. Strong categories include packaged goods, pharmaceuticals, movies, and fast food.
Hmmm ... I wonder what they're saying. That TV viewers sit around eating Big Macs, doing drugs, and woofing down Cheetos? Yeah, that can't be right.
