'Tudors' Star Jonathan Rhys Meyers Found Guilty of Threatening to Kill Cops

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 17th 2011 7:30AM
Jonathan Rhys MyersTroubled 'Tudors' star Jonathan Rhys Meyers was found guilty yesterday of threatening to kill three French policemen. The AFP reports that a court in the suburban French town of Bobigny handed Rhys Meyers a one-month suspended sentence and ordered him to pay a 1,000-euro ($1,351) fine for a drunken altercation with police at a Paris airport.

The 34 year-old actor launched the attack in a bar at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris back in 2009. The court heard how he first struck and cursed at a barman who had refused to pour him a drink. Rhys Meyers, who was described in court as being "extremely aggressive" at the time, then abused the gendarmes who arrived to arrest him, screaming "I'm going to give a million dollars to ruin your life. I'll kill you and your family."

'The Tudors' - 'Season Four Premiere' Recap (Season Premiere)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 12th 2010 1:32AM
The Tudors, Season 4 Premiere
(S04E01) "My lady, you must give men leave to look, because they will look upon you. There is no hope for it." - Thomas Culpepper to Queen Katherine

What I love about 'The Tudors' is that there's really no other show on TV like it right now. It's not a crime show, a hospital show, a cop show, a family drama, a situation comedy, a sci-fi show or a reality show. I guess you'd classify it as historical drama, but it's so well done. Everything is top notch, from the costumes to the locations (it's shot in Ireland) to the music and, most definitely, the cast.

'The Tudors' Season 4: Mid-Life Crisis, Illicit Affairs and the Series Finale

by Anna Dimond, posted Apr 11th 2010 2:00PM
Illicit affairs, political intrigue and a teen vixen are in the royal mix when 'The Tudors' returns to Showtime tonight at 9PM ET for its fourth and final season.

The show, which depicts the history and personal life of King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) in lurid detail, begins season 4 just as the king has married his fifth wife, the 17-year-old Katherine Howard (Tamzin Merchant). Lacking royal lineage and prone to the type of behavior befitting girls her age, Howard's poor behavior catches up with her, and her eventual execution leaves the King to marry for a sixth and final time.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Stirs Up Trouble on 'The Martha Stewart Show' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 3rd 2010 2:00AM
Martha Stewart, Jonathan Rhys MeyersIf only Martha Stewart had been around during the time of Henry VIII. She might have changed the whole course of the English monarchy.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who plays the controversial king on 'The Tudors,' was stirring up more than just good eats on 'The Martha Stewart Show' today.

"If I had been one of your wives," said Martha, pounding her fist on the counter, "you would have been in trouble! You would have been a better king!"

Not only that, I'm sure she could have done some creative things with the head of a pig, as well.

New TV DVDs for Dec. 15: 'Robot Chicken,' 'The Tudors' and More

by Scott Harris, posted Dec 15th 2009 9:48AM
One of the best parts of the holiday season is the return of some of television's most beloved animated classics. Shows like, for instance, 'A Charlie Brown Christmas,' 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and, of course, 'Robot Chicken.'

Okay, so maybe 'Robot Chicken' isn't quite your father's stop-motion show, but retailers around the nation are about to find out how today's brand of animation stacks up against favorites of the past as several offbeat animated series get the DVD treatment. But don't worry, if cartoons aren't your thing, we've also dug up some releases from other genres that will make some of the best gifts this side of the Island of Misfit Toys.

'The Tudors' Season 4 to Premiere April 11, 2010

by Nicholas White, posted Nov 6th 2009 8:07PM
The TudorsLook for royal domination when 'The Tudors' returns for a final round of royalty, mayhem, and wives on April 11, 2010.

'The Tudors' star Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has drawn wide acclaim as Henry VIII, and was nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe two years in a row. 'Tudors' co-star and longtime friend James Frain says Rhys-Myers has really "owned" the show, which will wrap next year after four seasons.

"I have known Johnny for a while -- I did a movie with him in '97 called 'Titus,' right when we were both starting out," Frain told us at last week's Hollywood premiere of his film 'Everybody's Fine.' "It's really cool to see him be like 'the star' that he's become, and really just own that, and take that into being this great, incredible character."

Gary Jennings' Aztec novel optioned for mini-series

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 25th 2009 2:02PM
Aztec, by Gary JenningsEvery once in awhile, you come across something that reaches way back and scratches a memory you didn't now you had. This story did that. I remember years ago stumbling across Gary Jennings' massive tome Aztec. I had a thing for big, fat books; to me it felt like I was getting more for my money. Plus, I've always been a bit of a history buff, and so little was being discussed about the Aztecs in school.

So I dove into it, and the subsequent books in the series. It was fascinating and rich, and uniquely told. It is the biography of an old Aztec man as he told it to a Bishop. The Bishop, in turn, wrote the story in a series of letters to the Spanish King, and it is these letters that make up the chapters of the book.

The story was so unique and so uniquely told, I remember at the time thinking it would make a wonderful mini-series. And now, after all these years, that might just happen. Aztec has just been optioned for television as a possible mini-series. It's just too bad Jennings didn't live to see it.

Joss Stone agrees to return for The Tudors final season

by Jason Hughes, posted May 12th 2009 7:31PM
The TudorsShe kind of had to, didn't she? It's great that Joss Stone is coming back for The Tudors' fourth season, but considering her character outlived Henry himself and remained associated with him, she kind of needed to, didn't she?

I guess they could have changed history some more and simply gotten rid of her, but I like that she's coming back. Stone has a sexy side that plays well in the world of The Tudors. And considering that she's playing the "homely" wife, that's a testament to her skills.

What are you looking forward to catching up with this summer?

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 30th 2009 3:01PM
SkinsIn the DVR era, I have this new problem/blessing that happens to me every year. I jump on board these shows and then just get too busy to keep up with them and they pile up and sit there on my DVR unwatched. As an example, I just finished "Chapter 5" of John Adams last night; damn that's a good mini-series. But now that 99% of the network shows are wrapping up their seasons, I'm looking at three months of solid catch-up time.

I can also use the time to try out series I've always wanted to get into but just haven't for some reason or another; I'll use that "no time" excuse again. With more videos streaming online at Hulu (thanks ABC), seasons coming out ever faster on DVD and more vintage shows coming out the field is wide open. Of course, I'm probably taking on more than I can handle, but dammit I'm excited!
