Should We Still Be Talking About Tiger Woods and His Wife? (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 16th 2010 8:55PM
Should We Still Be Talking About Tiger Woods and His Wife? You may have heard about the marital troubles of golfer Tiger Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren. There was some cheating on Tiger's part -- with a ton of girls. Then there were some voicemails, a situation involving attacking a car with a golf club, and now -- reportedly -- Elin is considering a divorce from Tiger and wants a $750 million settlement.

But should we still be talking about all of this? On 'SportsNation' (weekdays, 4PM ET on ESPN2), hosts Colin and Michelle debate whether the marriage of the golfer is an appropriate topic for discussion. This is in response to a press conference where Tiger was asked about his relationship with Elin, and replied: "That's none of your business."

Host Michelle Beadle says we should stop talking about the whole affair; co-host Colin Cowherd disagrees. Hmm. So which position is right?

Why Nike Deserves Cursing For Its Tiger Woods Ad

by Danny Gallagher, posted Apr 9th 2010 4:03PM
Nike's Tiger Woods adThe Tiger Woods story has become a beast that cannot be fed, no matter how many bloody human entrails you stuff in its perpetually open maw.

Tiger's never-ending reach for forgiveness and redemption has been more thoroughly covered than my late grandmother's living room couch. It's turned the news into a supermarket tabloid. It's turned 'SportsCenter' into a Lifetime made-for-TV movie.

And now, with Nike's new Tiger ad, it's turned commercials, my one measly break from this love-to-hate lovefest, into another creepy, lurid, sex-soaked look at a superstar's human indiscretions.

Bob Costas Talks Tiger Woods' Return to Golf (VIDEO)

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 6th 2010 9:55AM
Bob CostasBob Costas stopped by 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' (weeknights at 12:37AM ET on NBC) and weighed in on Tiger Woods' road to recovery. The veteran sportscaster said given Woods' situation, yesterday's press conference was the best the golfer could do.

"If he's going to go forward, he was about as forthright as somebody could be in that situation today," Costas said.

However, Costas dispelled the idea that Woods picked the Masters Golf Tournament because he was sure to win it. "I think the main reason he chose the Masters is that it's the most controlled environment in all of sports, not just golf, in all of sports."

Tiger Woods Interview, ESPNTiger Woods gave a short interview on 'SportsCenter' (10PM ET on ESPN) that answered most questions without really saying too much of anything. When asked why he hadn't sought treatment earlier, Woods said, "I didn't know I was that bad." Really? Because everyone else knew it right away.

He said he figured it out by "stripping away denial, rationalization ... you strip all that away and you find the truth." Woods said he's excited to play golf again, but plans to continue his treatment.

Tiger Woods and Wife Star in Video Game on 'South Park' (VIDEO)

South Park, Tiger Woods video gameIt's inevitable that Tiger Woods would end up on 'South Park' (Wed., 10PM ET on COM), but bonus points to Trey Parker and Co. for creating a sweet video game out of the scandal.

It's brilliant, really. Put the battling couple on a golf course, arm them with golf clubs, and include game points for endorsements and the almighty Pre-Nup Power-Up!

We're sure if the boys play long enough, Tiger's women will make an appearance, too.

Best TV of the '00s: Scandals

by Mike Moody, posted Dec 29th 2009 2:00PM
grey's anatomy scandalMore of our best of the decade coverage, which started earlier today. You can read the other posts at the link above. Here, we talk about the decade's biggest TV scandals.

Who doesn't like a little drama? We love it here at TV Squad. Of course, its usually the scripted kind that we obsess over, not the real-life variety. But it was hard to escape all of the behind-the-scenes scandals going on during the Aughts.

The backstage drama often spilled out onto the tube, in talk show interviews, reality series, and with the 24-hour news networks looking to fill time and boost their ratings. Needless to say, we had little trouble picking our top TV scandals of the '00s.

Top Stories of 2009: Reality scandals

The Salahis greet president Obama
It's interesting when one takes the time to look back back at 2009, several scandals that occurred this year were related to television. There were four big reality scandals that occurred in 2009, most of them happening in the second half of the year. They have stayed fresh in pop culture buzz.

This list doesn't count Jon & Kate's drama, all the injuries on Survivor, So You Think You Can Dance, and Dancing with the Stars, Chima's explosion on Big Brother, or Adam Lambert's sexual preferences. Those events pale in comparison to the five scandals listed.

Cheaters guy gives his take on the Tiger Woods scandal

by Danny Gallagher, posted Dec 15th 2009 1:02PM
CheatersJust when thought you had already heard the whole world's take on the Tiger Woods saga, out comes the last person you want to see on a date.

Professional soul patch wearer and Cheaters host Joey Greco talked to the Los Angeles Times about Woods' philandering ways.

He describes his take on the reaction, the coverage and even Tiger's handling of the event. He even likens it to David Letterman's recent scandal and says that Letterman handled his public reaction to the event much better and Tiger should have done the same. So does he mean that Tiger Woods also should have released his own Top Ten list?

Has the Tiger Woods saga been too well covered?

by Danny Gallagher, posted Dec 14th 2009 8:04PM
After a long day of whining and moaning about fictional characters' motives and twisting plot lines, I like to unwind with a bit of less believable reality: the evening news.

The only thing is this week, my days haven't ended with my daily dose of death and destruction. For instance, the most visible story on last week's roll of the NBC Nightly News was the never-ending Tiger Woods saga, starting with his growing roster of steady girlfriends and ending with his lost endorsement deals. The majority of last week's broadcasts featured the latest news at the very top of their broadcasts.

It's even worse on the cable news networks. The story has been updated and broken over and over for what seems to be every hour on the hour and these are networks that stopped giving time to sports stories when ESPN cornered the market.

Is it just me or is Tiger-gate getting too much coverage?

Accenture Drops Tiger Woods - What Ads Could He Do Instead?

by Scott Harris, posted Dec 14th 2009 3:12PM
The hits just keep coming for Tiger Woods, but at least this one wasn't delivered with a three-iron.

According to an official press release from technology consulting firm Accenture, the company has decided to break off ties with the beleaguered golfer, who had appeared in a series of commercials touting the benefits of "high performance." While other companies affiliated with Woods have also altered their advertising strategies, including Gilette temporarily pulling all Tiger ads form the airwaves, Accenture's announcement marks the first full-fledged dumping since Tiger's troubles began.

Embarrassing Commercial Alert: 'I'm Tiger Woods' (VIDEO)

Tiger Woods Nike CommercialWe feel badly for Tiger Woods. We really do. But let's face it, the guy made his own bed (with several people, we might add), and now he has to sleep in it.

With girlfriends coming out of the woodwork, sponsors are dropping the golfer left and right. What better time than now to take a look back at one of the first commercials he made for Nike. It shows just how far he's fallen, and in such a short time. Sure, we don't know all the facts, but it's not looking good for him.

Olbermann lights the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree

by Danny Gallagher, posted Dec 3rd 2009 6:29PM
If you're wondering who actually flicked the switch for the always impressive Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, you might be surprised or violently angry depending on your personal opinions.

MSNBC's professional right-wing pundit impressionist Keith Olbermann lit the tree during last night's episode of Countdown while dishing on Tiger Woods' series of trysts with gossip monger Michael Musto like a couple of housewives in a beauty parlor with baritone voice. Olbermann officially ushered in Christmas with a switch that looks like he raided the trash bin after NBC dismantled the Family Feud set. Then without missing a beat, the two jump right back into the Tiger trashing.
