Should 'Dancing With the Stars' Only Do One Season a Year?

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 9th 2011 1:25PM
Tom Bergeron Dancing With the Stars'Dancing With the Stars' is still a ratings champion, but the numbers have fallen. Is over-saturation to blame? Tom Bergeron has an idea.

"One season a year works very well for 'American Idol,'" Bergeron told TV Guide. "I certainly think that's one of the things that should be considered going forward. I would be looking at the spring season very carefully."

'DWTS' Backstage Report: Ron Artest Talks About Exiting, Will Chaz and Lacey Dance to a Cher Song?

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 21st 2011 7:00AM
Tom Bergeron, Brooke Burke Charvet, Peta Murgatroyd, Ron ArtestIt bites having to leave 'Dancing With the Stars,' especially when you enjoy being there as much as Ron Artest did.

But the pro basketball player focused on the positive after host Tom Bergeron announced on last night's results show that Artest and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd would be the first couple to leave Season 13.

Artest is a lesson to us all in having to embrace a change that we might not be so thrilled about having to make.

The couple earned the lowest score on Monday's show and this was Murgatroyd's first year as a pro dancer so she's yet to build a fan base like veterans Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke and Mark Ballas have. That combination apparently proved to be the duo's undoing.

AOL TV was on the post-show press line to talk to Artest and Murgatroyd about their exit and to some of the remaining participants to get their thoughts on what they need to do to stay in the game.

Bob Saget Wants to Submit a Tape of Himself to 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 15th 2011 12:45PM
Bob Saget, 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'Bob Saget isn't proud of the story he told on 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), but he must have felt it was important for him to share it. He left absolutely no detail out, and did a masterful job of building a growing sense of dread, anticipation and suspense as the story progressed.

From the details of him wearing a robe and Ugg slippers to the fact that there was a ladder near a pool, and a jacuzzi was involved, we had an idea of where it was going. But still the exact scenario was pretty funny.

To hang a hummingbird feeder, he hooked a wire to a hammer and climbed the ladder to throw the hammer and wire over a tree branch. "I threw it, the hammer came off and came at me and I fell off the ladder into the jacuzzi," he admitted.

'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Kym Johnson's 'Never Been So Scared'; Ralph Macchio Says No Finale, No 'Karate Kid' Tribute

by Michael Maloney, posted May 17th 2011 7:00AM
Kym Johnson and Hines WardThis season of 'Dancing With the Stars' has proved that you don't need polarizing reality stars, manufactured romances between celebrities and dancers, or other contrived stuff to make a compelling two hours of television on Monday nights.

The heart-stopping neck injury suffered by fan favorite Kym Johnson during rehearsal last week, judge Bruno Tonioli's censored remark to Karina Smirnoff and host Tom Bergeron's lightning fast ad-libs are providing enough drama, gasps and laughs to keep the veteran series more popular than ever.

Alas, one couple will be going home tonight and, despite Ralph Macchio earning the lowest score, there's no guarantee it will be him. The actor's vocal fan base has already voted him through one likely elimination.

TV Squad talked to the semi-finalist pairs on the post-show press line last night to get their thoughts on Monday's performance show and taking part in arguably the most competitive season of 'DWTS' so far.

Joke About Tom Bergeron's Wife Highlights Tosh Web Redemption (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 9th 2011 11:40AM
Tom Bergeron Wife, Tosh.0'Is Tom Bergeron's wife hot? Bergeron obviously thinks so, and so did one of the "judges" on a 'Dancing With the Stars' spoof on 'Tosh.0' (Tuesdays, 10PM on Comedy Central). Bergeron appeared on 'Tosh.0' as a guest in one of the show's Web Redemption spots, where host Daniel Tosh danced with YouTube viral sensation Judson "Evolution of Dance" Laipply.

Bergeron introduced the dance segment, for which Tosh wore a skimpy sequined dress, before going to the judges' panel. "Because this is 'Dancing With the Internet Stars,' our judges are just ordinary jerks with webcams," he said.

Judge "Snatch Master" was predictably rude, but said that Bergeron's wife was hot. Tosh said, "Your wife is hot." Bergeron smiled and said, "Yeah, she is, actually."

TVR Awards -- Biggest Daytime Gross-Out of 2010 (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Dec 22nd 2010 10:45AM

What's grosser than gross? Daytime TV, of course. If it's stomach-churning moments you're after, look no further. Our nominees for the Biggest Daytime Gross-Out of 2010 include sexually suggestive workouts, medical oddities, a man intent upon milking himself and a poor sap who eats something he definitely shouldn't. All that's missing are people doing disgusting things with urine. Oh, wait ...

Why Is Bristol Palin Still on 'DWTS'? Host Tom Bergeron Explains (VIDEO)

Why Is Bristol Palin Still on 'DWTS'? Host Tom Bergeron ExplainsThere's been a lot of outrage over the fact that Bristol Palin is still on 'Dancing With the Stars.' In fact, one man shot his TV in protest. Yesterday, consistent high-scorer Brandy was eliminated -- the singer got the highest score seven times, receiving the lowest score only once. Meanwhile, Ms. Palin has gotten the the lowest score seven times -- and never gotten a high score.

On the new 'Chelsea Lately' (weeknights, 11PM ET on E!), Chelsea Handler asks 'DWTS' host Tom Bergeron what's going on. Tom explains the situation very slowly and patiently to Ms. Handler: "She is ... getting ... more votes ... than the people who ... aren't there anymore."

Michael Bolton: 'Dancing With the Stars' Judge Should Apologize (VIDEO)

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 29th 2010 2:00PM
Michael BoltonIt didn't come as a big surprise that Michael Bolton got the boot on 'Dancing With the Stars' last night. The singer and his dance partner Chelsie Hightower scored a mere 12 points doing a jive on Monday night.

Host Tom Bergeron gave judge Bruno Tonioli an opportunity to amend, apologize for or even retract the harsh comment he gave Bolton on Monday's show (he called their jive "the worst ... in 11 seasons"). Instead, Tonioli held his ground.

Bolton called the judge's remarks "inappropriate" and "disrespectful."

On 'Good Morning America,' Bolton demanded an apology from Tonioli. "You heard the tone. Even Len [Goodman] stopped him and said, 'That's inappropriate,'" he said. "I think he should apologize publicly and be reprimanded for it."

'Dancing With the Stars' Tries to Clear Up the Sarah Palin Booing Controversy (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 29th 2010 1:02AM
'Dancing With the Stars' Tries to End the Sarah Palin Controversy: Says She Was NOT BooedMonday night, 'Dancing With the Stars' unintentionally entered the murky world of political controversy. Ex-Alaskan governor Sarah Palin showed up to support Bristol Palin -- her daughter and a current contestant on the show. Which is when things started to get weird. While host Brooke Burke interviewed Jennifer Grey and her partner Derek Hough, boos suddenly began rolling in from the audience.

Grey was confused, and thought that the crowd was attacking her. "Why are they booing?" she asked. Brooke said she didn't know. Seconds later, the camera cut to Sarah Palin, who looked confused and a little flustered. This led some viewers (and some members of the media) to conclude that Palin was the one being booed. So who or what was being jeered by the crowd? Sarah? Jennifer? The judges? On tonight's episode (Tue., 9PM ET on ABC), 'DWTS' tried to end the controversy.

In an unprecedented move, producers aired "raw" footage from the previous night. This was meant to provide much-needed context to what is now being called "Boo-Gate." (Isn't it cute how quickly people come up with names for these things?)

Did Sarah Palin Get Booed on 'Dancing With the Stars'? (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 28th 2010 1:12AM
Did Sarah Palin Get Booed on 'Dancing With the Stars'?Because she's a supportive mother and everything, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin showed up on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC) in order to cheer on her 19-year-old daughter, Bristol Palin. But it seems that even an appearance on a reality show can provoke some controversy, if Ms. Palin is involved.

While Jennifer Grey -- last week's winner of the show -- was receiving her scores, audible jeers started rumbling through the auditorium. "There's booing in the ballroom," said host Brooke Burke. "We don't know why." "... Why is there booing?" Grey asked. The camera then moved over to to Ms. Palin, who was sitting next to co-host Tom Bergeron. Sarah shook her head in bemusement. At this point, the boos stopped. Once Sarah showed up on the screen, the crowd began to applaud.

Late Night Wars Turn Deadly on 'Castle' (VIDEO)

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 13th 2010 10:30AM
Tom BergeronIn a "ripped from the headlines" type of move, the late night wars came to 'Castle' (Mon., 10PM on ABC). 'Dancing With the Stars' host Tom Bergeron played a talk show host with the coveted 11:30PM spot ... who ends up murdered.

Naturally, a prime suspect was the other late night host who was supposed to get Bergeron's character's spot.

"So you guys are saying I killed Bobby? Why?" the suspect asked. "Well, it's no secret you were supposed to get his 11:30 slot, but Bobby extended his contract. Maybe you couldn't wait," Castle said.

We're glad the Conan/Jay feud didn't go down like this.

'Dancing With the Stars' main man Tom Bergeron is playing Bobby Mann -- a late night talk show host who gets canceled permanently on the April 12 episode of 'Castle,' which airs on ABC immediately after the 'DWTS' two-hour performance show. It's up to series star Nathan Fillion and his TV detective partner, played by Stana Katic, to find out who killed Bobby.

AOL spoke with Bergeron, who weighed in on 'Castle,' the current -- and arguably most-talked about -- cast of 'Dancing With the Stars,' and how he handles those pesky TMZ.com interviews.
