'United States of Tara' Season 3, Episode 10 Recap

When a literal "train wreck" pales in comparison to a metaphorical one, you know you're having a bad day. But two crises for the price of one is just another day at the office on 'United States of Tara,' and as we approach the series finale, things are escalating far past a little harmless attempted murder by shellfish. Bryce Craine has made himself nice and cozy inside Tara, and he clearly doesn't intend to leave without a fight.

Toni Collette's physicality is revelatory -- she's never looked more unattractive than she does as Bryce (and I mean that as a compliment), unafraid to look unglamorous and even a little monstrous at times for the sake of the character.

I truly hope she receives some awards recognition for the show's last season; the role has been a true tour de force for her, the likes of which most actresses will never encounter.

'United States of Tara' Season 3, Episode 3 Recap

Frances Conroy in United States of Tara['United States of Tara' - 'The Full F*ck You Finger']

We've witnessed Tara traversing the trials and tribulations of the academic world for the last two weeks, but the third episode of the season sticks much closer to home, far more concerned with the drama inherent in domesticity than that derived from external forces.

First, we had Kate's ill-conceived attempt to fly the nest for Japan, then we met Max's kooky mother, Sandy (Frances Conroy), who clearly needs to be featured on TLC's 'Hoarding,' stat. One of them is desperate to leave home, the other is terrified of ever stepping outside her front door -- and Tara, the only person who actually has any justification for curling up in a ball in the corner and never leaving the house, is having her body hijacked and dragged all over the country by Buck, who is currently on the hunt for the mysterious Bryce Crane.

Admit it, who among us would have passed up a little extra help with our homework back in our school days -- especially if we could leave the thinking up to someone else altogether? If you just happen to have an alternate identity who is a published author on psychology, I say why not defer to the expert?

Study buddies are one thing, but as much as we all might have believed that we knew better than our teachers when we were kids, most of us probably stopped short of actually attempting to teach the class ourselves.

Apparently, Tara Gregson isn't so discerning.

'United States of Tara' Season 3, Episode 1 (Season Premiere) Recap

Toni Collette['United States of Tara' - '...youwillnotwin...']

Few shows currently on television -- network or cable -- have a quirkier premise than Showtime's 'United States of Tara,' the familial dramedy centered around a woman, her husband and kids, and her multiple personalities.

We last saw the Gregson clan back in June 2010 (no wonder I've been in withdrawal!), at a typically eventful almost-wedding. It's been a long nine months, but this show is always worth the wait. The season opened on a slightly more successful social event -- a Labor Day barbecue -- but despite outward appearances, not much has changed. Charmaine is pretty much ready to pop with Neil's illegitimate lovechild, Kate's still a brat, Marshall's still involved with Lionel, and Tara's still going AWOL at inopportune moments when one of her alters hijacks her body for kicks.

Toni Collette Goes Back to School in 'United States of Tara' Season 3 Trailer

United States of Tara season 3, Toni ColletteTara Gregson is heading back to school when the Showtime hit 'United States of Tara' premieres its third season on March 28 ... and so are T and Alice and Buck and ... you get the drift.

Showtime just released the first trailer for season 3, and it features plenty of alter action, Tara going back to school and Eddie Izzard being a badass (like always). One thing it doesn't feature: enough of the rest of the family. Where's Marshall? And where's Frances Conroy as Max's mother?

Regardless, we're excited for the show to return. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Celebrate Australia Day With 11 Actors You Forgot Were Australian

Portia De Rossi, Ryan Kwanten, Toni Collette

Today is Australia Day, which means millions of Aussies around the world are celebrating the discovery of their homeland in 1788. At TV Squad, we're celebrating by watching clips of 'Summer Heights High' and thinking about our favorite Australian TV actors.

Believe it or not, many of our biggest small screen stars aren't actually Americans -- they just play ones on TV. Take, for example, Portia De Rossi, hilarious actress and successful memoir author (not to mention wife of Ellen DeGeneres). Betcha forgot she comes from the land Down Under. Same with Ryan Kwanten, shirtless 'True Blood' star and all-around charming guy. Emmy- and Golden Globe–winning 'United States of Tara' star Toni Collette? Yep, a true-blue Sydneysider.

Emmy Picks: Best Lead Actress in a Comedy

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 24th 2010 11:25AM
The nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy at the 2010 Emmys
With the Emmy awards less than a week away, I'm continuing to pick who I think should and who I think will win the major awards.

Yesterday, I discussed the Best Lead Actor in a Drama category. Today we look at the comedy side of the ledger and the Best Lead Actress in a Comedy category.

Toni Collette, 'United States of Tara'
Edie Falco, 'Nurse Jackie'
Tina Fey, '30 Rock'
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 'The New Adventures of Old Christine'
Lea Michele, 'Glee'
Amy Poehler, 'Parks and Recreation'

Who will win:
When I saw that Edie Falco had submitted the pilot for 'Nurse Jackie,' it hit me that she didn't get nominated for the show last year. Since the pilot aired about a week after the 2010 eligibility period started, the Academy has had well over a year to ruminate over Falco's strong out-of-the-gate performance in that pilot, where the entire web of lies Jackie has set up get revealed in a quick 30 minutes. Considering her Emmy history -- seven nominations, three wins -- it's very easy to see Falco standing on stage with the Emmy this year.

A Special-Needs Child on 'United States of Tara'A dinner out is not a simple everyday event on 'United States of Tara' (Mon., 10:30PM ET on SHO). At a restaurant, Tara has turned into her 5-year-old alter personality, happily coloring and wearing the kids-menu paper crown.

Her sister Charmaine is not amused. "What do I do if Tara doesn't come back before the wedding? I'm going to have a giant 4-year-old swimming in my chocolate fountain."

But the waitress thinks she's adorable, paying particular attention to Tara when she brings their orders. "My aunt has a special-needs child," she explains. She thinks Tara is "precious."

(S02E05) There's something very comforting about the massive dysfunction among Tara and her family, especially since they have such a way of not letting the craziness really get to them. It's almost as if Tara's condition has prepared those around her to accept whatever slings and arrows get tossed their way. 'United States of Tara' - 'You Becoming You' Recap

Wow, just when you think you've seen it all from Tara, something happens and you're left with your jaw dropping to the floor. Creator Diablo Cody has clearly decided that Tara's psyche is not just split, it's a frigging kaleidoscope.

Last season, there was the animal creation that came out of nowhere, and in this episode, yet another variation on the theme. However, if you saw this one coming, you're better than me, 'cause I was stunned. And surprisingly excited, too. For more on Tara, Max, Marshall and Princess Valhalla, keep reading after the jump.

Max Discovers Tara's Secret Girlfriend on 'United States of Tara' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Apr 6th 2010 5:13AM
Joey Lauren Adams on 'United States of Tara'On last night's 'United States of Tara' (Mon., 11PM ET on SHO), Tara's husband Max (John Corbett) found out -- in public -- that his wife (Toni Collette) is cheating on him. To be clear, it's one of Tara's split personalities, but still.

Tara tried to explain to girlfriend Pammy (Joey Lauren Adams) that it's her "fake personality" Buck who's been pursuing her. She doesn't care, going so far as to announce her love to Tara -- and husband Max and fellow ice-skating patrons.

"Buck, I love you, I love you for who you really are. Buck, Tara -- all of you!" Max is, suffice to say, pissed.

Sex was the topic of the day in and around the 'United States of Tara,' with nearly everyone questioning, experimenting, wondering and musing about the subject. Gay, straight, bi and variations on a theme. There was something about dogs in a bathtub that's still beyond me. But for the real skinny on how Tara's getting on, follow me after the jump and join the free skate.

There's nothing united about Tara's states right now. After all the time away in therapy and the realization that her shattered persona was not the result of what happened at school when she was a teenager, the reality emerging is that something is askew in her psyche that cannot be fixed... The lid on the pot is shaking and ready to explode. More on that and Marshall's gay-size shorts after the jump.
