Chili Cook-Off Leads to Difficult Challenge on 'Top Chef: Texas' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 24th 2011 2:30AM
'Top Chef: Texas'The elimination challenge this week on 'Top Chef: Texas' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo) was particularly brutal. The chefs were divided into three teams for a chili cookoff, but immediately one team seemed to be at a disadvantage.

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

At least, Nyesha thought they were as she was paired with both Beverly and Richie. As she anticipated, the trio did not impress with their hint of chocolate. Cowboys don't want sweet in their chili almost as much as they don't want beans!

First Quickfire Challenge on 'Top Chef: Texas' is Rattlesnake (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 17th 2011 8:17AM
'Top Chef: Texas' E01Has 'Top Chef' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo) gone all 'Fear Factor' on us? On last night's season premiere the chefs were given their first quickfire challenge, which was to create a dish using rattlesnake. Yum! (Not.) A very unhappy-looking Dakota confessed that she has "a major fear of snakes," and Ty-Lör probably spoke for everyone in the kitchen when he said, "This sucks!"

Host Padma Lakshmi was really harsh on the hapless contestants, using some most unladlylike language to get them going: "I'd better some some motherf***ing snakes on some motherf***ing plates at the end of this!" What has happened to Padma since she got to the Lone Star State?

As the nervous chefs gingerly opened the ingredient boxes a giant wave of relief washed over them as they realized that they wouldn't be rassling any rattlers after all: The snakes were all dead and skinned. So that makes it all alright then!

Former 'Top Chef Just Desserts' Contestant Indicted on Child Pornography Charges

Morgan Wilson, 'Top Chef Just Desserts'From TV pastry chef to child pornographer?

Reality TV has had its fair share of villains, but when the bad behavior happens off camera, it's still a bit of a shock -- especially in the case of 'Top Chef Just Desserts' Season 1 finalist Morgan Wilson, who was indicted on three second-degree felony charges of possession with the intent to promote child pornography.

Wilson, 38, was arrested on Dec. 7, 2010 -- less than a month after the 'Just Desserts' finale episode aired -- when undercover investigators received file transfers from him via Limewire on his computer in September 2010. The file transfers allegedly contained images and videos of children as young as toddlers engaged in sexual acts, according to Pegasus News.

Fans of the Bravo show will remember that Wilson (whose bio is still live on Bravo's site), who lives in Plano, a suburb of Dallas, Texas, was known for getting emotional when talking about his young son in confessionals throughout the season of 'Just Desserts.'

'Top Chef: Just Desserts'Reality show competitions are very stressful. And by the time you get down toward the end, your nerves are often frayed. That's probably why three of the remaining five contestants on 'Top Chef: Just Desserts' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo) got their drink on with a classic game of 'Never Have I Ever.'

The boys had so much fun that Carlos was certain that he, Matthew and Orlando would be in the bottom tomorrow, simply because they were so wasted. Plus, we learned that they all want to punch Johnny in the face -- Orlando wants to twice!

Too Much Ambition and Dry Cake Dooms One on 'Top Chef: Just Desserts' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 1st 2011 6:38AM
'Top Chef: Just Desserts'The contestants were arbitrarily split into four teams of three on this week's 'Top Chef: Just Desserts' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo). For the elimination challenge they were tasked with creating a three-layer cake to celebrate opening night for the Walt Disney Orchestra. Each team member would be responsible for one layer of the cake.

A lack of communication led to one cake having two chocolate layers, while it was Vanison who got overly ambitious and pushed his team in a more intricate direction than they were comfortable with. More critically, it was an ambition they could not live up to.

'Top Chef Masters' Week Eight Results: The Eliminated Chef Is... (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 2nd 2011 3:29AM
Curtis Stone, 'Top Chef Masters'In the eighth week of competition on 'Top Chef Masters' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo), the chefs were tasked with a breakfast challenge, using a microwave. This is far harder than you might think if you break down all the traditional breakfast foods. This isn't a toaster pastry after all.

Later, they took on a science-based challenge, with each chef being presented with a lab assistant and ingredients representing a scientific principle. The goal was to make a meal that was delicious as well as demonstrating the principle.

Padma Lakshmi joined the judging panel on this challenge, which netted some interesting results. Do we really need to incorporate a science lesson into a cooking show?

Chefs Struggle to Cook on a Moving Tour Bus on 'Top Chef Masters' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 12th 2011 5:20AM
Hugh Acheson, 'Top Chef Masters'We're not sure at what point in a chef's career they'll have to try and make a gourmet meal on a tour bus, but it was sure fun watching the contestants try on 'Top Chef Masters' (Wed., 10PM ET on Bravo).

From the way the Black Team's driver was lurching around turns and slamming the brakes on, it was as if he was deliberately trying to sabotage them. Of course, details like remembering to lock the refrigerator when it's not being used would have saved the eggs from tumbling to the ground.

"We had a driver who was 140 years old and liked to take corners way too fast," Hugh Acheson said.
