Chase Scene Turns Deadly on 'Southland' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 10th 2010 1:38AM
SouthlandOn the surface, this clip from 'Southland' (Tue., 10PM ET on TNT) appears to be a cut-and-dried chase scene gone awry. Perp takes off, cops chase him, perp's car rolls over and explodes in fiery flames.

But WE know what the real problem is – he's driving a Toyota. That company just can't catch a break anywhere.

Toyota CEO Offers Condolences to Families (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 25th 2010 12:45AM
Larry King Live, Toyota RecallWhatever kind of crappy week you're having, just be glad you're not Akio Toyoda, the President and CEO of Toyota Motor Corp. He's having a tough week, but not as tough as people who've lost loved ones because of Toyota's problems.

Toyoda (yeah, we're not sure how the name fits in either) appeared on 'Larry King Live' (weeknights, 9PM ET on CNN) to offer his condolences to the families affected by Toyota's vast problems, which seem to be multiplying every day.

Toyota: "Big Wheels"

by JJ Hawkins, posted Feb 3rd 2008 11:57PM
Did you know you could fit 20 big wheels on the top of the all new Toyota Sequoia? Me neither, but apparently it's a major selling point.

All kidding aside, I like how this commercial appeals to the immature masochistic side of me. I'm talking about the side that would like to get on a big wheel on a steep hill with little to no padding and roll with only a few bails of hay resting between me and imminent death.

That's seems to be the demographic Toyota is shooting for here, and I'll be damned if they didn't nail it.

Toyota Tundra Superbowl kick-off

by Ryan Carter, posted Feb 1st 2007 12:54PM
TundraToyota picked the super-bowl this year to start their advertising campaign for the new Tundra. Besides the ads, Toyota will be staging a bunch of "Prove it!" test drives across the nation in the next six months. Toyota is said to have spent twice the amount they ever have on a vehicle launch, so hopefully the ads are that good. Toyota is simply trying to showcase the new Tundra's capabilities in simple ways. Tundra is Toyota's first full-size truck, meant to compete with Ford and Chevy. Look for these ads during the super bowl, then let us know what you think about them in the comments below.

Things I Hate About TV: summer commercials

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 3rd 2006 8:17AM

Dunkin' DonutsI wrote about a few of these commercials over at Adjab recently, but I have to mention more of them here because they are really starting to get to me.

Have you ever noticed that TV commercials that run during the summer are particularly annoying? It's not just the actual content of the ads (though that can be quite irritating), it's the number of times that a commercial is repeated during June, July, and August. Toyota can't just have a one or two week sale, they have to have a damn Toyotathon that lasts all summer, so we have to hear that "Let's go for a ride, feel the sunshine, let's go for a ride in the summertime" song 300 times a day. Dunkin' Donuts doesn't just have a few summer drinks, they now have summer drinks for every situation and personality, and America runs because of them, so these ads run 200 times a day.

Now, some of this might be because I get paid to watch TV for a living and watch a lot more of it than most people, but I think that even the most casual TV viewer sees these ads over and over and over again, to the point that they want to change the channel. Have you noticed that summertime ads run a gazillion times a day?
