Five Possible Jeannies for the Big Screen 'I Dream of Jeannie'

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 21st 2010 1:03PM
Another week, another story from Hollywood about a beloved TV show being turned into a feature film. Last week it was 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' and this week it's ... 'I Dream of Jeannie.' Yes, yes, they've talked about this one before. But that was then and this is now and the Los Angeles Times reports that 'I Dream of Jeannie' is back on with Sheila Callaghan, one of the scribes on 'United States of Tara,' has been handed the assignment. That means whatever the writers from 'National Treasure' and 'Mulan' and 'Bend It Like Beckham' who've taken a swing at it in the past few years weren't able to make it work.

There is an essential problem with 'Jeannie,' as anyone who knows the shows realizes. How do you make the story of a love-crazed, subservient slave-like genie who lives in a bottle and calls her astronaut boyfriend master relevant. That's a tough nut to crack, but maybe casting the role of Jeannie would be a start.

Christian Siriano brings his fierceness to Eloise

by Kona Gallagher, posted Jul 22nd 2008 9:03AM
Christian Siriano Tim GunnLast season's Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, has snagged himself a Hollywood job. The 22-year-old designer who has the dubious distinction of introducing the phrase "hot tranny mess" into the popular lexicon, is designing a collection that will be showcased in the upcoming film, Eloise in Paris.

Siriano is excited to be featured in the movie, saying, "It is a dream to work with legends such as [director] Charles Shyer, Uma Thurman and [costume designer] Milena Canonero on a wonderful story filled with creative inspirations." One of the film's major scenes takes place at Paris Fashion week, and it will be Siriano's creations that the models will be wearing as they strut down the catwalk.

While having a collection in a movie-version of Paris fashion week isn't quite as prestigious as having a collection in real Paris fashion week, the young Siriano is off to a good start. After all, he could have been designing clothes for the Bratz movie, like a certain other Runway winner.

The Daily Show: April 17, 2008 - VIDEOS

Uma and Jon"Indecision 2008": The other night, ABC hosted the latest Democratic debate between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Charles Gibson and former Bill Clinton aide George Stephanopoulos moderated the event and -- to put it in the most articulate and nicest way possible -- totally sucked. That was probably the worst way to pose a question about a possible ticket team-up to two candidates who are in it to win it. Also, that question about Jeremiah Wright and his love for America made me want to grab Stephanopoulos by the head and make him go back to the Keebler elf factory. Not cool, man. Maybe Dennis Kucinich will set him straight.

Family Guy: Bill and Peter's Bogus Journey

by Brett Love, posted Mar 12th 2007 8:00AM
peter griffin and bill clinton from family guy(S05E13) Ya know, no matter what part political affiliation you claim, I think we can all agree that Bill Clinton lends himself well to comedy. There's just enough hillbilly in his character to make him easy to laugh at. Family Guy certainly isn't the first show to take a run at Clinton, and they've now featured the former president four or five times, but there's plenty of room at that party.

That's getting ahead of the game though. Before we could get to the Peter and Bill hijinks, there was the loosely relevant opening at the Quahog Marine Center. While it was a long way to go to get to the main plot, there were a lot of funny bits in that opening. Herbert at the fondle tank, Stewie's stripper line, and Seamus saving Peter from the octopus were all good bits. I especially liked the Wacky Wall Walker finish to that.

Rainn Wilson prominently featured in new movie trailer

by Anna Johns, posted Jun 26th 2006 8:36AM
rainn wilsonThere's a teaser for My Super Ex-Girlfriend currently airing on television that gives Rainn Wilson as much face time as big-name stars Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson. Rainn plays Luke Wilson's nerdy buddy who gives him all sorts of relationship advice. I think I saw it the other night during reruns of The Office and My Name is Earl, which makes sense. But still, that's pretty cool for Rainn. 20th Century Fox obviously thinks he has enough fans as Dwight Schrute on The Office that he'll be the reason (some) people go to the movie. The movie hits theaters July 21.

Knowing that Rainn Wilson is in the movie... is that reason enough for you to plop down $10?
