Ava Spies on Kevin's Christmas on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 8th 2011 1:30AM
'Up All Night' - 'First Christmas'Blythe Danner returned as Reagan's mother for the Christmas installment of 'Up All Night' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC). She arrived to find her daughter in full OCD mode trying to outdo the neighbor's Christmas decorating in order to get the same reaction from her daughter that they did.

She was also trying to get into the Christmas spirit in a way that her mother never did during her own childhood, though by the end of the episode the pair had reconciled their differences over a stolen Santa and reindeer they simply could not get up on the roof.

Maya Rudolph and Kelly Ripa Have an 'Oprah-Off' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Dec 2nd 2011 3:00PM
Maya Rudolph's been trying to tell people for months that her 'Up All Night' character Ava, who just so happens to be a flight talk show host, isn't a re-imagining of her famous 'SNL' Oprah impression. But Friday on 'Live!' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), at the behest of guest-host Neil Patrick Harris, Rudolph and Kelly Ripa broke out their dueling Oprah impersonations for an 'Oprah-Off.'

Rudolph started off the competition by announcing a fake audience giveaway that would make Snooki proud. "Today, we're giving away ... pickles!!" she exclaimed, as the audience cheered wildly. Ripa followed up with, "You get a pickle, and you get a pickle and you get a pickle," and got some feedback from Rudolph on her impression.

Reagan Shows Chris Her 'Better' Ways to Do Things on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 24th 2011 1:00AM
'Up All Night' - 'Week Off'When Ava's show went on a forced production break for a week, it sounded like a great impromptu vacation for Reagan on 'Up All Night' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC). She could kick back, relax and get to spend quality time with her baby. Sounds ideal!

Well not, apparently, if you're a bit of a control freak. When she's trying to make a smooth sailing ship out of the show, that keeps her occupied and apparently keeps her need to organize and make things "better" in check. Out of work, she's completely out of control.

Christina Applegate Is Giving the 'Up All Night' Writers Tips on Writing a New Mom (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 7th 2011 5:00PM
The cast of 'Up All Night' are pretty much all raising young children in their personal lives: Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph, Nick Cannon, and Christina Applegate are all new-ish parents. Applegate stopped by 'The View,' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) where she talked about the similarities between her real parenting life and her character Reagan's, and explained that she's given tips to the show's writers based on her own experience.

Before she even agreed to do the show, Applegate told the producers she needed special provisions to account for her daughter. She had a nursery built on-set, and her daughter spends a lot of time there while they're shooting. "They had to built me a room for her ... it's got her toys and a crib, and she takes her naps there and walks around," Applegate said.

Reagan Butts Heads With Her Mother on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 3rd 2011 12:30AM
'Up All Night' - 'Parents'To say that Reagan has a strained relationship with her mother is putting it lightly. And yet, even after all these years of marriage, Chris didn't seem to get it. So he surprised her by allowing her parents to visit on the latest 'Up All Night' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC).

We got a little bit of insight into Reagan's awkward teen years, as she discovered that her mother had written a psychology book about it. Needless to say, Reagan isn't exactly thrilled to have her most embarrassing years chronicled in a book ... with pictures!

Nick Cannon On the 'Up All Night' Cast: 'Everybody Has New Kids on That Show' (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Nov 2nd 2011 6:00PM
Just as the main characters in his new show 'Up All Night' are trying to stay hip after having kids, Nick Cannon told 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 9AM PT on Fox) that he's determined to do the same after having twins with Mariah Carey. As if to immediately disprove his point, he led the hosts in an impromptu, awkward drum session. "It's like 'Stomp the Yard' up in here!" he joked.

Jillian Barberie told Cannon that she saw his 'Up All Night' co-star Maya Rudolph out with her kids, and noted that although her character Ava struggles to relate to children, Rudolph seems to be living a life more like Christina Applegate's character Reagan.

"We all are," Cannon said. "Everybody has new kids on that show. It's crazy." Rudolph had her third child with director Paul Thomas Anderson in July, Will Arnett and Amy Poehler just had their second child last year and Christina Applegate and boyfriend Martyn LeNoble had her first child in January.

Take a Trip Back in Time to Watch Amy's Birth on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 20th 2011 1:00AM
'Up All Night' - 'Birth'Without any sort of framing sequence to explain why, 'Up All Night' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC) decided to take us back to Reagan's pregnancy and the birth of little Amy. It was a little odd to suddenly be taken on this journey down memory lane, but it was a pleasant enough journey.

We got to see how uptight and particular Reagan was about wanting every step of the birth to go according to the plan, but for the most part it was the same kind of standard stuff you see on every sitcom birth episode.

Reagan Bonds With a Former Rival Over Destroying a Stroller on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

'Up All Night' - 'Mr. Bob's Toddler Kaleidoscope''Up All Night' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC) is still juggling these two seemingly disparate worlds, but with this week's episode that balancing act suddenly made sense. It's the same balancing act Reagan is trying to have with her life.

She wants to be the perfect mother, but she's also a driven career woman who wants to be able to go out and party. Just so long as she's home in time for the family before Amy goes to bed.

It's the same struggle working mothers deal with every day. They also deal with some stay-at-home moms being judgmental because of their "choice" to work.

Maya Rudolph Swears She Isn't Doing an Oprah Impression on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 12th 2011 3:30PM
On 'Up All Night,' Maya Rudolph plays a flighty talk show host named Ava who's drawn a bevy of comparisons to Oprah Winfrey. Rudolph, who was known for her Oprah impersonation in her 'SNL' days, told 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) that despite the similarities, Ava isn't Oprah.

Rudolph explained that while some may see Ava as an O-clone, it's not what she's trying to do with the character. "People always think I'm doing Oprah I guess, because I did Oprah on the show. You definitely have to have cajones to be a talk show host. I don't think I could personally pull it off being myself, I like being characters more. I'm infusing her with this regal-ness that I like to play."

TVLine describes Lee's character as a "sweet and good-looking" single dad.

'Up All Night' premiered to solid ratings and looks like it may be NBC's latest breakout comedy. The show stars Christina Applegate, who works for Rudolph's character, and Will Arnett as thirty-something first-time parents struggling with the new responsibility.

Will Forte Teaches Chris the 'Flex' to Sex Up His Marriage on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 29th 2011 2:15AM
'Up All Night' - 'Working Late and Working It'This week's 'Up All Night' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC) explored a truth that new parents generally discover quite abruptly one day. They've stopped caring about how they look around the house ... and sometimes in public, too.

This tends to be more difficult for the men to handle, which is why Chris wound up reaching out to a fellow new father, played by Will Forte, for advice. Reed (Forte) agrees to come over to teach Chris a few tricks to get Reagan to make more of an effort.

The idea is for Chris to sex up his image a bit, which Reed showed him has a lot to do with your clothing, and especially your underwear. While showing off his "sexy" briefs, he let Chris in on the power of the glute flex, which lifts and adds volume to your rear-end.

Chris and Reagan Update Facebook to Look Cooler on 'Up All Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 22nd 2011 1:30AM
'Up All Night' - 'Cool Neighbors'Chris and Reagan are still adjusting to being new parents, while Eva is struggling with not being liked by the baby on 'Up All Night' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC).

It was great to see that Eva will not be dominating the show, as the more genuine and awkward moments at home with the Brinkleys are where the heart of this show lies.

This week, when a couple of cool neighbors moved in across the street, the couple lamented that they couldn't be the free spirits they were before having a baby. But they so wanted to impress the new neighbors that they were willing to try and fake it.

One solution was to make sure their Facebook pages were cool enough. We loved the list of things that Chris 'Likes,' including Lipitor. But even better was Reagan's page, which she hadn't updated since announcing she was going to the hospital to have the baby.

'Up All Night' Series Premiere: Parenting and Partying Don't Mix (VIDEO)

'Up All Night' - 'Pilot'['Up All Night' Season 1, Episode 1 - 'Pilot']

There's a sweetness that really surprised me throughout the premiere of 'Up All Night' (Wed., 10PM ET on NBC). To be honest, I wasn't sure if Will Arnett could pull off the role of a normal human being, but he absolutely nailed it. His chemistry with on-screen wife Christina Applegate was so authentic, I believed their love completely.

It was the little moments they shared, and some clever editing by the writers to make it feel real. After a fight over who was or wasn't awake at what time to take care of the baby, we cut quickly to the next morning where it's kisses and quick apologies. This is a couple we can root for together, because they're in this together.
