Sunday night's 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent' (Sundays, 9PM on USA) was not only the season finale but the series finale for Detective Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and company after ten years of 'Criminal Intent.'

After a season of therapy, it turns out that Goren will keep his job, even if the cameras aren't following him anymore. But will that resolution satisfy the show's fans?

Goren has always been an intense character -- he was once institutionalized undercover to crack a case. His obsession with "the puzzle" was a major driving force on the show, and something explored more directly in sessions with his therapist this season. As his therapist said on Sunday's show, "The job gives you structure, sense of purpose. But you're convinced that it's the only thing that defines you. You think without the puzzle, you don't matter. It's a lie, but it's the only one you've chosen to believe."

For its 10th and final season, which kicked off last night, 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' (Sunday, 9PM ET on USA) brought back its original stars in Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe. And they picked up the reins of the show as if they'd never been gone.

'Law & Order' built a franchise with stories "ripped from the headlines," and clearly the writers of this season premiere have been paying attention to the biggest story in Hollywood the past few months.

Jay Mohr guest starred as a fashion designer who's crazy antics, including apparent drugs and prostitutes, overshadow his professional life. Just take one look at his television interview, where he's speed-talking, throwing out non sequiturs and even trying to use "Instinct!" as a catchphrase of sorts. It simply screams Charlie Sheen.

USA Network has renewed the floundering 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' for a tenth and final eight-episode season with Vincent D'Onofrio back as Detective Goren.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the deal the network made with series creator Dick Wolf also resulted in a pilot commitment with him.

"We have been the fortunate caretakers of this legendary series, and we plan to give it the world-class farewell it so richly deserves," Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming at USA Network, told Deadline.

Last week we told you that Julianne Nicholson had decided not to come back to Law and Order: CI after having a baby, and in the same post we hinted that other changes might be coming to the USA show too. This could be those changes.

The Hollywood Reporter and set sources are both saying that Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Eric Bogosian are all being written out of the show. That would mean that Jeff Goldblum would be the star of the show and that new cast members would have to be hired. D'Onofrio might make guest appearances in the future.

I can see Bogosian going, since he always seemed like a recurring character at best and you can replace those. But D'Onofrio and Erbe are the heart of the show, really, and it's interesting if Goldblum (who I always assumed would last for a season or two and then be on his way back to the movies) would be the lead character on the show now.

Fans of the Law and Order shows (all of them) are used to big cast changes and turnovers. When you have shows that last so long, you're bound to see characters leave and new ones pop up. Now it looks like we're about to have a new cast member on Law and Order: CI and an old one that won't be coming back.

Julianne Nicholson has decided not to come back to the show after leaving for a while to have a baby.

When Chris Noth left Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Jeff Goldblum was announced as his replacement, I was kind of excited. I'm a fan of Goldblum's, and he's always entertaining, whether he's a guest on a talk show or doing something decidedly strange like his guest spot on Tim and Eric: Awesome Show, Great Job!

So far, not so good. Last night's episode, which tried to weave together the stories of a washed-up celebrity chef, a hip hop mogul, and a flighty socialite, still didn't provide the punch I was hoping for. It was better than most of his episodes so far - and a good deal better than his first episode. And there are some elements I like; Goldblum's Detective Zach Nichols can't seem to keep from correcting his co-workers, seemingly with no ill will, but irritating them in the process.

Not sure why USA Network ran two new episodes of Law and Order: CI back to back last night. Since the show was delayed so much this season you would think they'd want to spread out the fresh episodes over the summer longer. But we got to see a Jeff Goldblum episode and a Vincent D'Onofrio episode on the same night so we can compare the two leading men.

"Folie a Deux" was also the name of one of my favorite X-Files episodes, the one where the telemarketing boss was also an evil creature (as someone who worked a few telemarketing jobs, that episode seemed more like a documentary to me).

This was a Goren/Eames episode. Is it just me or does D'Onofrio look more and more unhealthy/disheveled? I know, I know, it's part of his character arc, but still...

So...are you a D'Onofrio (Goren) fan or a Goldblum (Nicols) fan? I'm wondering if this "Goldblum this week, D'Onofrio next week" format is irritating longtime fans, or if longtime fans like having Goldblum in the mix too. Will they ever have Goldblum investigate a case with Kathryn Erbe?

Last night was a Nichols/Wheeler episode, with the duo investigating the death of a con man's partner.

I really didn't mean for that to rhyme. After what seems like years on hiatus, Law and Order: CI finally returned to USA last night. It wasn't one of the new Jeff Goldblum episodes (they start next week), but it was a new episode, as Goren and Eames investigated a murder (surprise!). What did you think? We told you way back in October that Law and Order: CI, which was supposed to start up again in November, had been pushed back until early 2009. Now it has been pushed back even further, to the summer.

No word on what the hold up is this time (nor was there any explanation last time). If you've forgotten the news from several months ago, Chris Noth has been replaced by Jeff Goldblum. He'll be the lead in eight of this season's episodes while veteran star Vincent D'Onofrio will star in the other eight. It's always nice to share.

I wonder how long fans will wait before they say to themselves, "oh, is that show still on?" This is frustrating, because the show had become less ripped-from-the-headlines-ish than its parent show and more interesting.

I was reading AOL TV's "TV's 50 Hottest Hunks - Ever," and I was struck by two thoughts: "Ugh, can people really use the term, 'hunk' without shuddering?" and, "David Boreanaz? Seriously?"

I get it. Television is populated with pretty people and there are just some guys who are objectively hot (hellooooo, Jon Hamm). Generally speaking though, I'm not drawn to the Luke Perrys and Mario Lopezes of the world. I like quirky guys, and so while most of the dudes on this list aren't going to make it into the People magazine "Sexiest Man Alive" issue, they keep me tuning in every week (heh, that sounded totally dirty).

Hot off the news that NBC ordered sixteen new episodes of the show, Law and Order: CI has added Jeff Goldblum to the cast. And that means Chris Noth is out.

Goldblum will share lead duties with Vincent D'Onofrio on the USA Network show (new episodes air Sunday nights), and I'm not sure which actor is going to out-act the other. Both Goldblum and D'Onofrio are both well known for their rather quirky and/or intense acting styles. D'Onofrio does intense and explosive well, while Goldblum does strange and quiet well. No word on why Noth left.
