Chronicle campus scenes to be revised in wake of Virginia Tech shootings

by Adam Finley, posted Jul 23rd 2007 1:02PM

Thomas DekkerThe Sarah Connor Chronicles, a new drama that continues where the Terminator films left off (well, Terminator 2: Judgment Day to be exact) will hit FOX midseason, but at least one scene will be changed before we see it.

The series focuses on Sarah Connor and her son John, the young boy who will grow up to lead the battle against the machines. Sarah's duty is to protect her son from harm, but in one scene, John is attacked at his school. Executive producer Josh Friedman had explained, prior to the massacre at Virginia Tech, that the scene was central to the series as a whole: school is the one place where a parent cannot absolutely protect a child.

Simon Cowell addresses eyerolling misunderstanding

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 18th 2007 4:01PM
Simon CowellAs I posted earlier today, Simon caused quite a stir on last night's American Idol when he was caught rolling his eyes in response to Chris Richardson's heartfelt mention of the Virginia Tech tragedy. Many of us have been speculating about both Chris' sincerity, and Simon's seeming insensitivity. But whatever Simon's intention while rolling his eye (and I doubted all along that it was intentionally disrespectful), he knows it didn't look good.

And that's why today Simon is explaining his actions. In his defense, Simon claims he was talking to Paula about Chris and his nasally singing, so he didn't even hear Chris make the V-Tech comments. Simon apparently rolled his eyes in response to what he was saying to Paula, rather than what Chris said.

Unfortunately for Simon, that's not how it looked to those of us watching at home.

Fox pulls Bones episode because of Virginia Tech massacre

by Anna Johns, posted Apr 17th 2007 6:31PM
bonesIt never fails. Some major news event rattles this country, or the world, and an entertainment program coincidentally has a storyline that is just a little too close to the actual news. Case in point: this week, Fox is replacing a new episode of Bones with a repeat. The new episode was about human remains found on a college campus. Not much more is known about the plot of the episode, but it was apparently enough to make execs think of yesterday's Virginia Tech shooting rampage that left 33 people dead.

Sometimes it seems like entertainment divisions are being too sensitive to the American psyche, but I think it's better to err on the side of caution. Sadly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Law & Order took a stab at the university shooting storyline next season as one of their "ripped from the headlines" episodes.

The Daily Show: April 16, 2007

by Annie Wu, posted Apr 17th 2007 1:21PM
Jon StewartOf course, there wasn't much on the news apart from the tragic Virginia Tech shootings. I was curious to see how The Daily Show would handle the situation and, as it turned out, they chose to acknowledge it and then, as Jon put it, repress it and pretend everything is okay with the world. Let's make fun of the government and their poor e-mailing habits, shall we?

Yes. Let's.
