Identity returns in March
I really wanted to like this show, but I couldn't even make it through the first episode. Although, to be honest, the only thing that made me want to check it out was knowing that Penn Jillette was hosting it. I've been a fan of Jillette's for years, both solo and as one-half of Penn and Teller, but watching Identity was like listening to paint dry -- not watching paint dry, listening to it dry, which is much more boring.
Since networks don't make decisions based on my personal preferences, Identity will be returning to NBC Fridays in March. The first new episode will air at 9:00 p.m. on March 16, and will then slide into its regular timeslot beginning March 23 at 8:00 p.m.
Okay readers, should I have given the show more of a chance? Is it actually better than I thought it was? I'll admit I might not have been in the right mood when I watched it. Perhaps I had just been shot down by a girl at the bar, or maybe I ate some bad ham. If you think it deserves a second look, here's your chance to convince me.
Win Badly Drawn Boy's piano car on eBay
I don't get to talk about music much here, this being a television blog and all, but once in awhile those two worlds mesh and I get to tell everyone I'm a big fan of Badly Drawn Boy, whose new album Born in the UK will be released on October 16. The video for the song "Nothing's Gonna Change Your Mind" shows Badly Drawn Boy, (a.k.a. Damon Gough) "driving" a car that's operated by a piano keyboard where the dashboard should be. Now, you can bid for the chance to win the car on eBay, but only if you live in the UK. So there you go, UK readers, don't ever say I never did anything for you. Unfortunately, the auction ends really soon, but don't fret too much, it's not like the car actually works or anything. To ease your suffering, I've placed the music video after the jump. Let the soothing tones soothe your savage soul. Besides, it's not like you couldn't glue a keyboard to the inside of your car and get the same effect.Win a date with Sean Yazbeck
If, while tending your garden today, you suddenly trip over a rake, fall into a wormhole in the fabric of space and time and wind up in the Maritime Hotel in New York City on June 16, you should stick around because you can bid on a dinner date with Sean Yazbeck, the latest winner of The Apprentice. Tammy Trenta, also a contestant on The Apprentice, has set up the event and charity auction as a means to raise money for the the Theresa Kathryn Foundation, which supports "women and women-based initiatives around the globe." Tickets are $65 dollars, but you'll have to shell out $150 if you want to hang with the cast of The Apprentice beforehand (I don't think that includes Donald Trump, though). In a related auction, if you see me walking around the streets of Minneapolis today and give me a two quarters I'll buy you a Twinkie from the vending machine. That's just the kind of guy I am.
I didn't win the HGTV Dream Home
I wasn't really sure whether a move to
North Carolina was a good idea anyway, but I would have liked the dilemma. HGTV is giving away its latest Dream Home in
a live special this Saturday at 8 pm. I know this because I received an e-mail telling me to watch. This should tell
you two things: 1) I entered the contest, and 2) I didn't win. If I did win, I'd be one of these people. This year, HGTV is
taking a different approach to announcing the winner. It will fly three final contestants to this home for the live broadcast, where two people will learn
that they won $100,000 while the other person wins the home. I guess $100,000 is a nice consolation prize.Sigh. I really didn't need that much living space, anyway. I'd probably lose my cats and my husband somewhere in the 5,000 square foot home.
Watch soaps, win money
If you've ever said, "they can't pay me enough to watch a soap
opera" you might be interested to know that Procter and Gamble, the company that actually invented the genre
in the early 1930s, is behind a promotion that will award viewers $500 for simply watching As The World Turns
and Guiding Light. Well, you have to register at Daytime
Dollars, and your special code has to match the code shown during the episode. But hey, even if you don't win, you
can still lose yourself in the twisted plotlines and engaging stories. Will Samantha leave Brock? Will Danny find out
about his baby brother, Stefan? Will Jerome and Barbara ever find their way out of the wicker pumpkin factory? Will I
continue to make up characters and storylines and pretend I actually watch these shows? Who the heck knows? The
promotion will run from March 13 to September 29.
