One of three new medical dramas this season (two on NBC – the network clearly already misses 'ER'), 'Trauma' follows a team of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. This week on TV: Dr. House becomes a patient, the world blacks out in 'FlashForward' and our favorite serial killer returns

Hugh Laurie on House'House' (8PM, Fox) 6th season premiere
Last season ... well, it wasn't our favorite. But 'House' is opening its sixth season with a two-part episode that makes us remember just how good the series – and especially star Hugh Laurie – can be when it's at its best. House finds himself in a mental hospital, where he's detoxing from his Vicodin habit. But when his doctor (guest Andre Braugher) tries to keep him in the hospital for further treatment, House's stubborn plot to escape leads to crushing consequences.

This week on TV: Jay moves to primetime, models live a 'Beautiful Life' and television honors its best and brightest ....

Jay Leno'The Jay Leno Show' (10PM, NBC) series premiere
Is it a refreshing new entry on the primetime scene, or the ruination of scripted TV? That probably depends on whether you're an NBC exec or a TV critic. But even those who may worry that cheaply-produced talk shows will replace scripted fare have to be curious about tonight's premiere, which includes Jerry Seinfeld and a performance by Jay-Z with Rihanna and Kanye West.

This week on TV: First shift ends for 'Nurse Jackie,' a 'Royal Pain' of a love triangle and Vince calls in the security big dogs on 'Entourage'

'Nurse Jackie' (10:30PM, Showtime) 1st season finale
The good news, of course, is that the series, one of Showtime's most successful premieres ever, will be back for a second season. But sadly, we have to bid a temporary adieu to Jackie (Edie Falco) and her shenanigans, as she ends the season in trademark chaos. While she tries to juggle her schedule to meet Kevin for a little romance and be there for O'Hara when her mother arrives, there's also a problem with Eddie, who gets drunk – at Kevin's bar! – and comes to the hospital to throw a hissy fit.

All good things must come to an end, so even though Hoboken baker Buddy Valasco and his cake-bakin' buddies have been a great addition to the primetime line-up this summer, the first season comes to an end tonight. This week on TV: A leaning tower of fondant on 'Cake Boss,' Criss Angel gets buried alive and the 'Mad Men' are back. -- By Kim Potts

Cake Boss'Cake Boss' (10PM, TLC)
We still love Duff and the 'Ace of Cakes' gang, but New Jersey baker Buddy Valastro is one of the best new surprises of the summer, and watching him in action as the titular head cake maker at Hoboken's Carlos Bakery has been the year's least-guilty pleasure. On the menu in tonight's episode: The Leaning Tower of Pisa, replicated in cake, and a lobster-themed cake that Buddy scrambles to assemble after the client mixes up the date.

Monday, July 13
'Nurse Jackie' (10:30PM, Showtime)
Jackie's terminally ill former nurse co-worker (Judith Ivey) shows up and asks Jackie to help her with an assisted suicide ... doesn't sound funny? The talented writers and cast of Showtime's great new dramedy manage to wring laughs and tears out of the situation.
