Madonna's Memorable TV Moments
by David Ciminelli, posted Apr 19th 2010 7:00PM
Believe it or not, the feel-good primetime hit 'Glee' is about to get even better ... and it's all thanks to Madonna. The Golden Globe-winning series returns to Fox on April 13 with a tribute to the music icon, featuring the cast covering what's sure to be show-stopping renditions of some of Madge's greatest hits, including the '80s-defining 'Borderline,' an acoustic version of power-ballad 'Crazy for You' and the more recent '4 Minutes.' Even Sue Sylvester gets into the groove, coaching the Cheerios through an energetic performance of 'Express Yourself' and taking lead on 'Vogue.'
"It's big...huge," 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy recently told Entertainment Weekly about the episode, which he's directing, yet he won't reveal whether or not Madonna will be making a cameo. What we do know is that the special episode will feature grander productions and at least 10 hits. We wouldn't expect anything less.
Madonna's decision to lend 'Glee' her entire catalog stems from the fact that she's a fan of the spunky song-and-dance show. Of course, the timing is also perfect for the master self-promoter, who is releasing a live DVD-CD of her Sticky & Sweet Tour on March 30, followed by the concert's April 2 TV premiere on VH1.
We're pretty sure that the 'Glee' and VH1 specials, as well as Madge's March guest stint on Jerry Seinfeld's new show, 'The Marriage Ref,' will eventually find a place in our ever-expanding compilation of Madonna's Memorable TV Moments.
'Old Christine' Creator Kari Lizer Signs Deal With Warner Bros.
by Rebecca Paiement, posted Nov 12th 2009 12:17PM
Kari Lizer, creator of 'The New Adventures of Old Christine,' has just signed a three-year deal with Warner Bros. Television. The Hollywood Reporter dishes that the seven-figure contract allows Lizer to develop new projects with Warner, as well as continuing on as 'Christine' executive producer if the show receives a sixth-season order.
Lizer, who has worked as an actress, writer and producer, began her relationship with WBTV in the 2004-05 season, with two comedy pilots, 'Christine' and 'True.'
Before that, Lizer produced and wrote for 'Will & Grace' from 2000-2004 and served as a writer on 'Weird Science,' the television series based off the 1985 John Hughes movie.
CBS picking up Shit My Dad Says from Twitter account
by Brad Trechak, posted Nov 10th 2009 10:41AM
CBS has picked up a new comedy based on the ramblings of someone's father from a Twitter account called Shit My Dad Says. The title will likely change when it gets to the small screen. Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are behind it so it has some legs. The creator of the Twitter account, Justin Halpern, has become an Internet star. Actually, this is the second Twitter account to get a sitcom, the first being TextsFromLastNight (which is being produced by Sony TV and Adam Sandler's people).
Based on the sample tweets, I can see this actually working as a sitcom where a twenty-something or early thirty-something is forced to live back with his parents. His father would be a pessimistic Larry David or Ricky Gervais character, saying awkward things all the time to humorous effect. I think the only trick would be to tone down the profanity, or perhaps just use bleeping.
This is why I have to start a Twitter account.
Bobby Cannavale is the new Cupid
by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 8th 2008 10:41AM
Jeremy Piven was unavailable this time around, busy as he is playing Ari in Entourage, so writer/producer Rob Thomas went in another direction. Taller, by four inches. Thomas has chosen Bobby Cannavale for the title role in Cupid for ABC.Cannavale, an Emmy-award winner for his guest turn on Will & Grace as Vince, will be Trevor Hale in Cupid. He's described as manic and charming and firmly believing in the fact that he is the real Roman god of love, Cupid. His mission is to make 100 love matches so he can earn the right to leave Earth and return to Mount Olympus. ABC is behind this new pilot, an updated version of Thomas' 1998 Cupid that didn't make it past season one.
