Selena Gomez Talks About the Pressures of Being Young and Famous (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 17th 2011 1:20PM
Selena Gomez on 'Good Morning America'Selena Gomez already had a high profile of her own, starring in Disney's 'The Wizards of Waverly Place,' working on a burgeoning film career, and touring as a singer. Add the fact that she's dating young superstar Just Bieber, and life can get a bit frantic, as she explained Friday on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC). Gomez, who turns 19 in July, said she has already wasted too much time worrying about it.

Gomez was asked how she handles all of the scrutiny. "I'm young," she said, "and I spent the first three years hiding and terrified of things like that. So I'm just sort of enjoying being young and just having fun and focusing on my fans and my music."

'Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie' Draws 11.4 Million Viewers

by Andrew Scott, posted Aug 31st 2009 11:00AM
Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie 11.4 million viewersDisney Channel's next princess has officially been crowned.

The network's Friday night premiere of 'Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie,' starring Selena Gomez, averaged 11.4 million viewers, with 4.5 million in the kids 6-11 demo and 4.0 million in tweens 9-14. That makes it the most-watched cable program of 2009, topping 'Jon & Kate Plus 8''s separation episode in June (10.6 million viewers).

Even better news for Disney: The 'Wizards' movie is now the second-highest-rated entertainment telecast over the past two years, according to Variety. 'High School Musical 2' is first with 17.2 million. An August 2007 episode of 'Hannah Montana' (10.7 million) and 'Wizards on Deck With Hannah Montana' (9.3 million) rank third and fourth, respectively.

The Wizards of Waverly Place movie casts the biggest ratings spell of the year

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 30th 2009 5:03PM
Wizards of Waverly PlaceIf Disney was still not sure what their next super-series was going to be once Hannah Montana goes to bed after next season, they know now. The Wizards of Waverly Place movie just nailed down the highest cable ratings of the year. This in a summer full of ratings records on cable. Only High School Musical 2 has bested it on Disney, and we know what a phenomenon that franchise became.

Even more outstanding, the movie stands a decent chance of being the highest rated show on television this past week, including the broadcast networks. Tuesday's America's Got Talent, the summer leader, had 11.2 million viewers per the overnight ratings. Wizards of Waverly Place got 11.4 million.

Maybe it's time to combine the viewership numbers for cable shows and the broadcast networks. I think the cable channels have proven they can compete with select shows, so why not show it? While there are comprehensive, albeit flawed, ratings numbers from Nielsen for the broadcast networks, the consumer gets far less information about cable ratings. It's all television, right?

Hot Video: Selena Gomez Interview for 'Princess Protection Program'

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jun 26th 2009 10:00AM
Selena GomezSelena Gomez is adorable, talented and has a certain girl-next-door quality -- without an ounce of attitude -- which makes her the ultimate Disney darling.

On top of her hit show, 'Wizards of Waverly Place,' Gomez is also starring in a new Disney Channel original movie about what happens when real life gets royally interrupted called 'Princess Protection Program' (premieres Friday, June 26, 8PM ET).

Gomez gave us the scoop on playing the tomboy to her costar (and BFF) Demi Lovato's regal princess, and dished about the next season of 'Wizards,' those tabloid rumors and the fellow TV star she and Lovato love following on Twitter. -- By Maggie Furlong

Disney grooming Wizards of Waverly Place to be their "next big thing"

by Jason Hughes, posted May 2nd 2009 12:08PM
Wizards of Waverly PlaceDisney is doing everything they can to make sure that their target demo of 9-14 year olds can't breathe without choking on the Russos of Wizards of Waverly Place. Other than that, And with Miley Cyrus talking publicly about life after Hannah Montana, whenever that might be, it's time to look to Wizards of Waverly Place's Selena Gomez. As such, Disney has renewed Wizards for a third season and even greenlit a telefilm for the property.

What they really need to do is stream it on Hulu to ensure it is. The kids are online, you know.

Justine Bateman tries her hand at sitcom writing

by Joel Keller, posted Jun 11th 2008 1:01PM
Justine BatemanGive Justine Bateman credit: She could have been typecast after playing the dippy, fashion-obsessed Mallory Keaton on Family Ties, but she's been able to build a nice career for herself over the last twenty years by playing interesting supporting roles in movies like The TV Set and series like Desperate Housewives. But she's also been -- just like 75% of the people in Hollywood -- an aspiring writer, struggling to get her scripts produced (and you think having connections helps ... she knows Michael J. Fox and her brother is Jason Bateman, and she still couldn't get her scripts produced).

But now she can add "sitcom writer" to her credits; she just wrote an episode of The Disney Channel's hit Wizards of Waverly Place, according to the New York Daily News. Apparently, she's a friend of executive producer Peter Murrieta, and she got to know some of the show's writers during the writers' strike. So, when the strike ended, she was invited to write an episode for the show.

Top Tween (and Teen) TV Stars

by AOL TV Staff, posted Dec 17th 2007 12:13PM
The Jonas Brothers ... Jamie-Lynn Spears ... Miley Cyrus ... find out where they rank on our list.

Once upon a time, it was possible for a TV child star to get by on an impish smile and cute catchphrase.

Today's crop of kiddie performers don't have it so easy; they need to be double or triple threats who not only head up their own shows and/or TV movies, but sing, dance, star on the big screen, sell out concerts and launch clothing lines (despite some occasional personal missteps).

Here we count down the 20 hottest faves of the teen and tween pack.
