'Community' Is Hiring! Filling the Greendale Yearbook with More Awesome Human Beings

by AOL TV Staff, posted Jul 28th 2011 11:00AM
It's been a busy week for the casting directors of 'Community.' Greendale Community College is in hiring mode, and the faculty is freshly stocked with two new, sufficiently awesome (and yes, a little random) teachers: Michael K. Williams, coming on board to play a fresh-out-of-jail biology professor, and John Goodman, the new vice dean of the school of air conditioning repair.

While neither actor seems quite perfect, tonally, for the offbeat, referential comedy, the choices may prove brilliant for that very same reason.

With that in mind, we got to thinking about some other slightly plausible, square-peg-in-round-hole teacher choices that might just be crazy enough to work.

Even if they don't take any of our casting advice, that faculty lunchroom is about to get even weirder, in the best way possible.

Owen Wilson Shows Footage of Paintball with Neighbor Woody Harrelson (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Feb 25th 2011 4:40AM
Owen Wilson Talks Paintball on 'Kimmel'Owen Wilson received a paintball gun for Christmas. He soon discovered shooting at inanimate objects is boring. What to do...? Woody Harrelson lives next door. He and Harrelson decided to play dominoes, "and the loser had to run for the other guy." Wilson brought home video of the result to 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC).

As Harrelson's daughter looks on, he bolts out from the back of the house. Wilson aims, fires and hits him easily. "I only brought the ones where I shoot him," he explained as Harrelson tries different techniques to evade Wilson's skills.

Seven of TV's best replacements

by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 20th 2009 3:05PM
Law & OrderIt's hard to see beloved characters leave your favorite shows. You have created a bond with them, perhaps even projected their values onto yourself in an effort to raise the self esteem you had before, say, you fell down the Law & Order rabbit hole and started to believe the shows were actual news and not just "ripped from the headlines." But change is inevitable, and sometimes, it works out. Here are a few that worked (at least for me).

1. Current cast of Law & Order: I know, I know, who could replace Lenny Briscoe? No one, really. But the current pairing of Anthony Anderson and Jeremy Sisto as NYPD partners is the best the series has produced. They changed the feel of the show. Perhaps because we're still getting to know them, they are less predictable then previous tandems, and both evoke a certain hard-nosed quality that seems a bit more gritty and real. Plus, Anderson has chops as a stand-up comic, and could easily fill the wisecracker role, if need be.

Five biggest Cheers mysteries

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 7th 2008 1:02PM
Cheers logoI was looking over a "Where are they now?" feature our friends at AOL put together on the cast of Cheers, and a few of the mysteries of the long-running sitcom classic came to mind. These were head-scratchers big and small that made me wonder if the writers are the most clever geniuses ever to man a word processor (it was the '80s, after all) or, like in most sitcoms, consistency of story was the first thing to go if a good joke came up in the writers' room.

I guess I should just go over to Ken Levine's blog and ask him, since he wrote for the show for many years. But if I did that, I wouldn't get paid for it. So, after the jump are the biggest Cheers mysteries, starting with the biggest and most obvious one:

Rosie Perez signed for Geena Davis pilot

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 7th 2008 10:19AM
Rosie PerezThey've done the right thing at CBS in casting -- at least it seems right. Brooklyn native Rosie Perez will play Lorna, Geena Davis' cop partner on the force in Exit 19. I say it's the right thing, and good casting, because Lorna is supposed to be a Brooklyn girl. You can't get more authentic than Rosie Perez. She's a New Yorker through and through. In Exit 19, with Geena cast as a cop who works in the city while raising two kids in Long Island, the work atmosphere will likely seem a lot more realistic with Perez as her partner. If they can muster up the chemistry of a Cagney & Lacey, they'll be well on their way to a success. Of course, with Rosie all of five feet, one and a half inches and Geena a statuesque six feet, they're going to look like Mutt and Jeff.

Woody Harrelson is Howling Mad?

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 15th 2008 8:36AM
The A TeamAccording to Cinematical, director John Singleton believes that the perfect actor to play the role of "Howling Mad" Murdock in his upcoming movie version of the 80's action series The A Team is none other than Woody Harrelson. As a former A Team watcher, I can see that.

Harrelson does have that subtle lunatic vibe that Dwight Schultz was able to project so well before he became Lieutenant Barclay on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He's shown this in some of his movies such as Natural Born Killers.
