Earthquake Strikes During Clean-Up on 'Hoarders' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 29th 2011 2:30AM
'Hoarders' - 'Mike/Bonnie''Hoarders' (Mon., 9PM ET on A&E) wrapped its season with a very sobering reminder of how dangerous hoarding can be. Mike's house was in terrible shape, heaped with piles of used adult diapers, as well as deceased cats. But it was the structural integrity of the house Matt Paxton feared when the ground began to shake beneath their feet.

During filming, while they were inside the house, a 5.8 earthquake hit. Earthquakes are dangerous in clean houses, but in a house hoarded with filth and damaged from neglect it's an even more frightening situation.

Once they were clear of the mess, Paxton breathed a sigh of relief. "The last place I want to die is underneath all of your diapers going through the floor," he said to Mike.

Wilma Chained Up a Child, Continues Emotional Abuse on 'Hoarders' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 22nd 2011 6:00AM
Wilma, 'Hoarders'A messy house and a problem with hoarding are the least of Wilma's issues on 'Hoarders' (Mon., 9PM ET on A&E). The woman talked so casually about chaining her son to his bed that you'd think she was telling a pleasant childhood memory. Even all these years later, she still doesn't get that it was wrong.

And then, with her children on hand to help with the clean-up effort, she proceeds to concur that she basically resents them for ruining what she wanted to do with her life. "I have given up my life -- what I wanted to do in my life -- to raise them," she said right in front of them.

Jerry Blames His Sister For Taking His Inheritance on 'Hoarders' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 8th 2011 6:30AM
'Hoarders' - 'Judy/Jerry'You never know what the trigger is for someone to slide into the dark and lonely world of 'Hoarders' (Mon., 9PM ET on A&E). For Jerry, it came out in a quick discussion with his sister Karen that he felt she was cheating him out of his inheritance and wanted to see him suffer.

Of course, we assume that she wants the best for him -- she did show up to help a mostly futile clean-up session considering the state of the house -- but we never got any clarity on what Jerry was talking about and why he wasn't getting any of their family inheritance.

Kevin Struggles to Give Up Control of the Clean-Up on 'Hoarders' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 25th 2011 6:00AM
'Hoarders' - 'Kevin/Mary'There are a lot more clean houses in American right now, as 'Hoarders' (Mon., 9PM ET on A&E) is back to make us feel guilty about even the slightest bit of clutter in our homes. At the same time, we can be thankful we don't have to crawl through a "womb" of crap to get into our apartment, like Kevin does.

He has packed his Manhattan apartment so fully, that this child of one of the most famous television couples of the 1950s is sleeping on a park bench. And yet, with the threat of eviction hanging over him, he still struggled to relinquish any control to Dorothy Breininger in the clean-up.

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 19th 2011 4:45AM
'Gene Simmons Family Jewels'After many long years, Gene Simmons is finally growing up and ready to settle down with the woman he's known it was going to be the whole time. And finally, the wedding day was here on 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' (Tue., 9PM ET on A&E).

Shannon Tweed was a gorgeous bride on this day she'd waited so long for. We were a little surprised she left that bit in the vows where she made a commitment to serve him all the days of their lives.

At least Gene understands what it really means, though, because she closed the vows talking about her father's ring which she melted and reshaped into a ring for Gene.

Even Rain Won't Stop 'Disaster Guy' From Rebuilding Lives and Homes (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 17th 2011 1:00AM
'Disaster Guy' - 'Roncarati Family'Building a house from scratch in a week is no easy task. Ty Pennington and the 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' team have been doing it for years, but Steve Frasher has perhaps an even more daunting task with his rebuilds on 'Disaster Guy' (Sat., 9AM ET on A&E). He focuses on homes destroyed by natural disasters, which means he often starts off with a huge mess on his hands.

This makes his time ever more precious, meaning any delays can be disastrous to the schedule. So when he was rebuilding the Roncarati home in Monson, MA -- destroyed when a tornado ripped through the community -- a torrential downpour was the last thing he needed to see.

'Bordertown: Laredo' Sees Massive Hauls of Drugs Taken Off the Streets (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 14th 2011 6:30AM
'Bordertown: Laredo'The narcotics unit in Laredo, TX is kept pretty busy, with their town being a main entry point for drugs coming in from Mexico. On 'Bordertown: Laredo' (Thu., 10PM ET on A&E), we were treated to a double dose of what their job can be like when things are going well.

In the first episode, after three days of tracking it, they finally take down a tractor trailer that turns out to be simply jam-packed with marijuana. The estimate is that they've taken $5 million-worth of the drug off the streets.

In the second episode, they busted a massive haul of cocaine. Clearly, these guys are very good at what they do. As one of them pointed out, "Somebody's pissed off," referring to the cartel or organization that just lost all that product.

After a Tornado, Steve Builds the Morrises a New Home on 'Disaster Guy' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 10th 2011 1:30AM
'Disaster Guy'Steve Frasher was happy to help an older couple rebuild after a tornado destroyed their home on 'Disaster Guy' (Sat., 9PM ET on A&E). Like 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,' Frasher specializes in building homes for those in need in seven days flat.

The difference is that while Ty Pennington and his team focus on families in need for various reasons, Frasher spotlights those families in desperate need of a new home quite simply because some disaster destroyed their old one.

In the case of Jerry and Betty Morris, their home was reduced to a pile of rubble in a tornado. But Frasher not only gave them a new house, he salvaged artifacts and memories from their lives so that they won't feel that they lost everything. He helped make that new house into a home.

'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' wedding proposalWell the media kind of spoiled the answer on 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' (Tue., 10PM ET on A&E), but for those who didn't keep up with the celebrity news, or just wanted to see it go down themselves, we finally got to see Shannon Tweed's response to Gene Simmons' marriage proposal.

We have to say it is possibly one of the greatest responses we have ever heard to this question. Tweed said through tears and thick emotion, "Who'd want to marry an a****** like you? You're so stupid."

Steve Frasher Rebuilds Homes and Lives After Catastrophes on 'Disaster Guy' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 3rd 2011 1:15AM
'Disaster Guy'After losing his own home to a disaster, Steve Frasher has committed his career to helping others who've faced the same fate. On 'Disaster Guy' (Sat., 9AM on A&E), we follow him as he and a crew take a house that's been destroyed and rebuild it bigger and better in just seven days.

In this week's installment, he helped a family after a blazing inferno absolutely gutted the place, though it did appear to leave it structurally sound. Even worse for the family, the fire left the children afraid to go back inside.

Frasher and his team did an amazing job of making the house look brand new in such a short span of time. It's like 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' without the annoying megaphone and with a focus on homes lost to disaster.

Cesar Spits on an Inmate, Plays the Victim, on 'Beyond Scared Straight' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 16th 2011 6:30AM
'Beyond Scared Straight'I'm not sure how effective these Scared Straight programs are in impacting young teens' lives, but you can certainly see how it affects them while it's happening. Cesar may think he's tough on the outside, but he was on the verge of tears on 'Beyond Scared Straight' (Thu., 10PM ET on A&E).

Confronted with a slew of inmates yelling and insulting him from behind bars, Cesar looked like he was about to cry. So rather than show weakness, he chose to spit on one of the inmates, which earned him a slam against the wall. There, he immediately played the victim.

"Why are you guys letting this happen to me?" he whined. You could tell that while he didn't like being put in his place, he was completely checked out regarding the lessons he was supposed to be learning.
