Bristol Palin to Appear on 'The Secret Life of an American Teenager'

by Brad Trechak, posted Feb 23rd 2010 6:00PM
Bristol PalinThe eldest daughter of former Alaskan Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin will be appearing on an episode of 'The Secret Life of an American Teenager.' She'll be playing herself, a role she is likely familiar with after all this time. The show itself centers around a teen pregnancy, which is a subject that Bristol is quite familiar with.

It's a pretty gutsy move on the part of Ms. Palin considering the anti-Hollywood rhetoric that Sarah has espoused again and again. In fact, this appearance is likely a response to that 'Family Guy' controversy with her mother, possibly to lend support to more "family friendly" programming found on channels like Disney and ABC Family.

The whole situation reeks of a public service announcement, albeit a fairly involved one. Of course, one could also argue that 'The Secret Life of an American Teenager' is an after-school special premise that was turned into a series.

ABC Family Heading Back to College for a Fourth Season of 'Greek'

by Jason Hughes, posted Feb 22nd 2010 9:00AM
Greek castIt looks like ABC Family is heading for that awkward phase of high school and college-based dramas with 'Greek,' according to The Hollywood Reporter: the fourth year. This is when your freshmen are seniors and you have to figure out what to do with them, and your show, if you make it to five. Of course, you have a little bit of flexibility with college, as many students take longer than four years to graduate, and there's always post-graduate work.

But all of that's a problem for 2011. Right now, the cast and crew of 'Greek' can celebrate that with this fourth season pick-up, they will become the longest running original series currently on the air at ABC Family.

The other side of the coin is that it was only a 10-episode pick-up. The first two seasons ran 22 episodes each, while the third hit 20.

Jonas Brother Will Not Be on 'Brothers and Sisters' After All

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Feb 6th 2010 7:03PM
Joe JonasEarlier this week, we informed you that 'Brothers & Sisters' was considering casting Joe Jonas to play a younger version of Tommy in a special two-hour episode filled with flashback sequences and set to air in April.

Fan reaction from the news differed a lot. Some fans were glad at the idea of one of the Jonas brothers to be part of the series as Joe not only shared physical features with actor Balthazar Getty, which would have helped making this younger version of Tommy be believable, but also because the Jonas Brothers' following could have tuned in the show and help boost the ratings.

Other fans were outraged at the idea that Joe Jonas could land the role. Comments ranged from fans claiming that Joe did not look like Getty at all to them wondering if Joe Jonas had the needed acting skills to play such a role.

No matter what's your opinion, Jonas did not get the part after all. A young actor from 'Make It or Break It' was offered the role instead.

by Chris Jordan, posted Feb 1st 2010 3:01PM
The chemistry between Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, who co-starred in the ABC Family movie 'My Fake Fiance' last spring, was apparently good enough to warrant its own show.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the network has just ordered 10 episodes of a new comedy series, aptly titled 'Melissa & Joey.' The upcoming sitcom is set to hit the small-screen airwaves sometime this year.

'My Fake Fiance,' in which Hart and Lawrence played two schemers who stage an engagement between them to collect wedding presents, garnered more than three million viewers when it premiered in April. In the new series, Hart will play an overwrought politician who hires Lawrence to help straighten out her family issues.

For the rest of the month, TV is all Halloween, all the time

medium night of the living dead
I visited the pumpkin patch last weekend and totally massacred a 30 lb. pumpkin and feasted on its flesh, so I am officially in the Halloween spirit. Luckily, there's a crapload of TV to help sustain my ghoulish mood. TV Tango has compiled a pretty comprehensive list of Halloween-themed programming starting today and going through the rest of the month.

Some of the highlights include a Moonlight marathon starting today on SyFy, as part of their "31 Days of Halloween" programming. On Sunday, The Simpsons is airing their 20th "Treehouse of Horror" episode, while Monday has a some good kids' fare, with Halloween-themed America's Funniest Home Videos on ABC Family, and Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie on Disney.
