Talking TV Podcast Chats With 'Archer' Creator Adam Reed and Takes Reader Questions

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jan 27th 2011 11:45AM
Yesterday I posted my review of the second season of 'Archer,' a sterling FX animated comedy that returns 10PM ET Thursday. As you'll be able to tell from my review, I think the show, which chronicles the amusing and surreal goings-on at a disfunctional spy agency, is well worth checking out.

My podcast partner Ryan McGee is also a fan, and on Wednesday we chatted with the show's creator, Adam Reed, about how 'Archer' has evolved, what to expect in season 2 and what he originally wanted to title the show (hint: 'Archer' is better).

You can find the Adam Reed / 'Archer' podcast in all the usual places: iTunes, Picklemonkey and the Talking TV home base.

But wait, there's more! Ryan and I did another podcast this week, in which we took reader questions and discussed some of our favorite canceled-too-soon programs. A rundown of what we discussed is below.

I thought I'd mention one more podcast before we get to those running times: I guested on the Tuning In to Sci-Fi TV podcast with Wendy Hembrock and TV Guide's Tina Charles. We talked about 'Supernatural' exclusively, so check out that Winchester chat if you're a fan.

Review: Archer - Killing Utne

Ah, yes. Yet another fine episode of Archer. This show has been steadily funny, which is good. I'm still waiting for it to do something outrageous and surprise us with a particularly extra-hilarious or an especially terrible episode, but I don't mind watching something that I can rely on for decent laughs, even if it doesn't leave me rolling on the floor.

5 Reasons 'Archer' Is the Funniest New Comedy on TV

by Sharon Knolle, posted Jan 28th 2010 12:45PM
After Austin Powers, Maxwell Smart and who knows how many other take-offs on James Bond, do we really need another spy spoof? If you're talking 'Archer,' FX's hilarious new animated series, then yes, yes we do.

Picture it as 'Mad Men,' if the opening graphics were the whole show, and it wasn't about Sterling Cooper, New York ad agency, but Sterling Archer, ISIS intelligence agent. And if it were a whole lot sillier. And more crass.

Or maybe it's more like old-school Hanna-Barbera adventure series 'Jonny Quest,' but with actual swear words and zero life lessons.

Here are five excellent reasons why you should be tuning in ...

FX, those bunch of sneaky so-and-sos. Their new hot piece of animated action was set to premiere Thursday night, but instead of airing the "Mole Hunt" episode that quietly previewed after It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia a few months ago, they pulled a fast one and showed an all-new episode first. I guess "Training Day" is to be considered the proper series premiere at this point? Even if it's really the second episode? Question mark?

If you'd rather hang on and revisit "Mole Hunt," our own Jonathan Toomey took care of that. Here, we're going to take a look at "Training Day."

Archer looks awesome

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 2nd 2009 1:30PM
Is it too early to name Archer as one of my favorite shows of 2010? It's hard to judge sometimes how good an animated show is going to be, but if Jonathan's review of the pilot and the video clips below for Archer are any indication, it's going to be all kinds of awesome. I like spy shows and movies anyway, and this animated, modern take looks really funny. It debuts on FX on January 14 at 10 p.m.

'Archer' to Premiere January 14, 2010 on FX

by Scott Harris, posted Dec 1st 2009 5:15PM
There's good news for fans of the FX cartoon 'Archer:' the show does, in fact, exist and is scheduled to begin its regular run on Jan. 14.

According to Entertainment Weekly, FX has announced its lineup for the new year, including 'Archer,' an animated comedy about agents in a top secret spy network. Fans of the series, which is slated to run for 10 episodes, could be forgiven for wondering if the show was merely a shared hallucination thanks to FX's unique roll-out strategy, which saw the pilot air once back in September as a special sneak peek of possible upcoming attractions.
