'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) reached into our childhoods and across the ocean to score an interview with popular children's character Madeline. Oddly, she looked and sounded a lot like Gilbert Gottfried in a Madeline costume.

Leno asked him her about proper dating etiquette, after which Gottfried Madeline detailed a list of things the man should do on a date, including getting the door, bringing flowers and picking up the check.

"If the man does all those things, the polite thing for the woman to do is to bang him," he she concluded.

Controversial comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried has been fired from his longtime job as the voice of the Aflac Duck in TV commercials.

The insurance giant severed ties with Gottfried Monday after he Tweeted several crude jokes about the massive earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan last week.

In a statement, Aflac Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Michael Zuna said, "Gilbert's recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac."

Zuna added that, "Aflac Japan -- and by extension Japan itself -- is part of the Aflac family. There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times."

The new Chief of Marketing over at supplemental insurance company Aflac, Jeff Herbert, is planning to silence the duck. Despite the little quacker having garnered the company an 85% brand awareness rating, Herbert feels that people just don't know what Aflac actually does. So, expect to see the duck minimized in future Aflac advertisements.

Poor,duck. It probably doesn't know how to say anything other than "Aflac," which could cut the second phase of his career awfully short. Perhaps, he could go into early "fallen corporate mascot" retirement. There's got to be a pasture out there somewhere where Morris the Cat, Spuds McKenzie and the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales sit around and bitch about their agents.

UPDATE: The duck lives! The AdAge story which this post referred to was picked up by news outlets all over the country. Apparently, the piece overstated Herbert's intention of expanding beyond television ads to other media where the duck's "quack" would not be heard. Aflac has officially announced that they have, "no intention of abandoning the duck."

Of course, your interest in this probably depends on how much you can stand the humor of Gottfried. Me? I've always found him rather humorous, whether it's guest appearances on sitcoms, game show, or his Aflac commercials.

It probably helps if you read his blog entries the right way. Just close your eyes and imagine the blog entries being read by Gottfried in that voice of his. Oh, wait, if you close your eyes you won't be able to see the blog. OK, try this: read the words but still try to imagine it being read in his voice. Yeah, that'll be better.
