Simon Cowell Talks Howard Stern and 'America's Got Talent'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 25th 2011 9:00AM
Ever since Piers Morgan quit the 'America's Got Talent' judging panel rumors have swirled about his possible replacement, and one name that keeps coming up is shock jock Howard Stern. He recently addressed the rumors and reiterated that he's a huge fan of the show, but wouldn't comment on whether he was involved in ongoing negotiations with NBC.

This week the 'New York Post' published a report alleging that Stern's agreed to join the show if certain conditions are met. Such as paying him a whopping $20 million and moving the show from Los Angeles to New York. The 'Post' quotes a source close to the show as saying that 'AGT' boss Simon Cowell is "hellbent" in landing Stern, and that "The talk on the production is that it's practically a done deal."

For his part, Cowell told 'Access Hollywood' that he's a fan of Stern but that nothing's been signed: "I like him. There's a lot of people who make decisions on this stuff. Money's got to work, schedules [have] got to work. There might be a few twists and turns still."

'America's Got Talent' Backstage Report: Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. Wins!

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 15th 2011 7:00AM
Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.Cliché as it sounds, there were only winners on last night's 'America's Got Talent' Season 6 finale.

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., as judge Howie Mandel accurately predicted on Tuesday's performance show, won the competition and the show's $1 million prize. "I am the great predictor," Mandel quips.

Dance group Silhouettes came in second. Dance group Team iLuminate was third. Rock band POPLYFE came in fourth, but you'd never know it by the jubilation they were feeling after the show. The band members were still ecstatic over getting to perform with the legendary Stevie Wonder, an experience they'll take with them forever.

"I'll take it with me as well," Wonder told AOL TV on the post show press line. "They are a group that is committed to staying together and not letting anyone break them apart. I feel that's how we should be as a nation. I'm excited that they allowed me to be a part of their group."

'America's Got Talent' Backstage Report: What the Four Finalists Need to Do in Order to Win

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 8th 2011 7:00AM
Il Divo on 'AGT'The four acts competing for the $1 million prize in next week's 'America's Got Talent' finals are: Singer Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., music band POPLYFE, and dance groups Silhouette and Team iLuminate.

A few weeks ago people were betting that singer Anna Graceman and dance team Miami All-Stars would have been shoo-ins for the finals, but poor choices they made on Tuesday's performance show led to either a strike or negative comments from the judges, which likely affected votes.

"The Miami All-Stars were still All-Stars, but they lost the 'Miami,'" offers judge Howie Mandel, referring to the group performing more like they were football cheerleaders in their last routine.

Mandel's fellow judge and nemesis Piers Morgan feels that America got it right in selecting the four finalists that they did. "These are the best four we've had," Morgan says. "I'm really pleased."

What should each act do to win next week? Give more of what they've already shown, or step outside the box and do things that they've never done before?

Il Divo Performs, Four Acts Move Forward on 'America's Got Talent' (VIDEO)

Il Divo, 'America's Got Talent'Was it perhaps bittersweet for Lys Agnes to watch Il Divo perform, sticking to their opera roots, to such applause on 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC). The four sounded fantastic, easily filling the theater with their rich harmonies.

They were on hand to provide some much needed happiness on a tense night as six acts were sent home and four making it through to next week's finale episodes. I can be proud that I almost got it right, but I missed by one.

Did POPLYFE Dance and Sing Their Way Into the 'AGT' Finale? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 7th 2011 2:07AM
POPLYFE, 'America's Got Talent'The top ten acts on 'America's Got Talent' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC) certainly gave America something to think about. With only four of them moving on to next week's finale, they weren't making it easy to pick which ones deserved it most. At the most, I'd say two acts completely blew it this week and two acts failed to improve.

The first misfire came when Lys Agnes once again abandoned the opera style that made us love her and tackled Aerosmith's 'Dream On.' Her voice sounded all kinds of weird in the lower register and it never really recovered.

Susan Boyle Performs, Top 10 Revealed on 'America's Got Talent' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 1st 2011 1:56AM
Susan Boyle, 'America's Got Talent'As one of the most unexpected superstars to come out of 'Britain's Got Talent,' Susan Boyle is an inspiration to anyone seeking success and stardom via a talent competition. So it was completely appropriate and properly uplifting for her to come and perform on 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC).

While Boyle wasn't as commanding vocally as she has been in the past, she still knows how to command a crowd, and she was able to give that emotional boost the contestants need at this late stage of the competition.

'America's Got Talent' Backstage Report: Should Piers Morgan's Buzzer Be Silenced?

by Michael Maloney, posted Aug 31st 2011 7:00AM
GymkanaTake it from someone who's sat in the audience at 'America's Got Talent' -- the judges' buzzers sound even louder in person. So when trigger-happy judge Piers Morgan hits that red "X" button performers can understandably become rattled.

Therefore, Morgan striking acrobatic act Gymkana may have caused the performers' concentration to fail, which could have have contributed to one of the team's members catching fire when he jumped through a ring of flames.

Host Nick Cannon informed viewers at home (after a commercial break) that the Gymkana acrobat was okay thanks to his flame-retardant outfit.

Morgan quipped that by striking the act he was trying to end it early, thus potentially saving lives. But fellow judges Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne, as well as Cannon, say they wouldn't mind Morgan's buzzer being disconnected.

Fire Accident Halts One 'America's Got Talent' Semi-Finals Performance (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 31st 2011 2:25AM
'America's Got Talent'Danger acts have been doing very well on 'America's Got Talent' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC), but the more times you see them, the greater the risk of something going wrong. Especially on live television. It happened this week during Gymkana's fire ring act, though we can thankfully say no one was injured.

It certainly didn't look good for a moment there, with one of the gymnasts lying under the ring of fire, but he insisted he was okay. Unfortunately for them, though, the accident shut down their act mid-performance and likely ended their shot at the grand prize.

But it was a much better night for some of the other acts in this final round of the semi-finals. Of twelve acts, only five will make it into the finals, and with so many rock-solid acts this season, the tension couldn't have been higher.

Demi Lovato Performs 'Skyscraper' on 'AGT' Results Show (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 25th 2011 1:26AM
Demi Lovato, 'America's Got Talent'It was a tense results show, as usual, on 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC). But at least five acts out of the twelve are moving on this time, instead of four like in the previous round. We'd tell you how much that improves their odds, but we'll leave that math up to the Kinetic King.

To break the tension, Demi Lovato was on hand with her new single 'Skyscraper.' While she showed a lot of great stage presence and confidence, her vocals seemed to betray her nervousness a little bit at times. All in all, though, she gave a very commanding performance.

'America's Got Talent': Colbie Caillat Performs, Four Wild Cards Move On (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 18th 2011 12:43AM
Colbie Caillat, 'America's Got Talent'It was an eclectic wild card round on 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC), but only four acts are going to move onto next week's semifinals. To lighten the festivities we got a very beautiful performance from the cast of 'Les Miserables,' and Colbie Caillat lit up the stage with her song 'Brighter Than the Sun.'

As it turned out, though, these were the only musical acts to have a great night, as none of last night's vocalists made it through to the next round. America sent through the creepy West Springfield Dance Team, illusionist Landon Swank and in a surprise vote, The Kinetic King. While his act is pretty unique, we're not sure it's Vegas material.

Seth Grabel Brings Out Kid Versions of the Judges on 'America's Got Talent' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 17th 2011 12:51AM
Seth Grabel, 'America's Got Talent'Magician Seth Grabel knows what America likes. Kids are adorable, and he incorporated them into his act in a fun way on 'America's Got Talent' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC). With a 'Back to the Future' theme, Grabel made a DeLorean appear on the stage, claiming it was from the past.

To prove it, he opened it to reveal three adorable youngsters dressed up like Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel. But the best moment of the act came when Piers asked the Li'l Sharon Osbourne what her name was.

"Hello darling," Li'l Sharon replied, to tremendous applause and a standing ovation from Mrs. Osbourne herself.

'America's Got Talent' Backstage Report: Did Piers Morgan Buzz a Little Girl Because of Nick Cannon's Dare?

by Michael Maloney, posted Aug 11th 2011 7:00AM
Breena Bell The audience at home mostly has the final say on whether or not an act progresses to the next round on 'America's Got Talent,' but a strike ("X") from the judges is still pretty much the kiss of death for a competitor.

None of the six performers/acts from Tuesday night that received a dreaded red buzz from judges Piers Morgan (who gave five) and Howie Mandel (who gave one) are advancing to the semi-finals.

The lucky ones that did advance include dancer Beth Ann Robinson, bicyclist Matt Willheim, circus performers Gymkana and singer Kevin Colis.

Morgan pretty much sealed the fate of agile tumbler Breena Bell when he gave her a strike on Tuesday's show.

Why'd he do it?

Rebecca Black performs 'Friday' on 'America's Got Talent' (VIDEO)

Rebecca Black - America's Got TalentMost contestants on 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC) can only dream of having the kind of overnight success that singer Rebecca Black has enjoyed thanks to her earworm single 'Friday' -- but does she actually have talent?

The jury's still out on that one, and there was nothing particularly spectacular about her vocals on stage, but the kid seems determined to have her 15 minutes of fame no matter what the haters say, and if people keep buying, Black will keep selling.

Maroon 5 'Moves Like Jagger' on 'America's Got Talent' Results Show (VIDEO)

Adam Levin & Maroon 5, 'America's Got Talent'Adam Levine took his act straight from 'The Voice' stage and onto 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC) when he and Maroon 5 entertained the crowd with their new single 'Moves Like Jagger.' It was a rock-solid performance, and a great way to remind people of Levine and 'The Voice.'

To keep the crowd excited on this tense elimination night, Jason Derulo gave the crowd a medley of his singles, but it was all just a distraction from the reality of the evening.

Of twelve acts, only four would move on to the semifinals.

Sharon Osbourne Talks 'AGT,' Son Jack Being a Cop on 'Chelsea Lately' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 2nd 2011 5:44AM
Sharon Osbourne, 'Chelsea Lately'Sharon Osbourne really does love her job as a judge on 'America's Got Talent,' but she admits it can be a bit taxing at times. When pressed specifically if she ever asks what she is doing there on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!), she admitted that it happens sometimes.

It's the variety, though, that keeps it fresh and interesting. "Could you imagine if it was just country singers?" Osbourne said. "One whiney country singer after another. I would go insane."

The pair then talked a little bit about Sharon's son Jack, in response to a story that's hit the press about him being a cop, or intending to become on. Sharon dropped the bomb that he's been a reserve officer for three years. How did the paparazzi miss that one? Is Jack not exciting enough to follow everywhere he goes like the rest of his family?
