'Community' May Be Just a Figment of Joel McHale's Imagination (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 9th 2011 12:00AM
'Community' cast - 'The Soup'With 'Community' airing its final scheduled episode this week (Save Greendale!), the cast stopped by to visit Joel McHale on 'The Soup' (Wed., 10PM ET on E!) with some startling news. When McHale asked why Chevy Chase wasn't with them, Ken Jeong told him, "There is no Chevy. He's a figment of your imagination."

Eventually, after Adam Scott and Nick Kroll joined them on set, it was revealed that not only were the pair of them also figments of his imagination, but so was the entire cast. Mankini explained: "This is just a delusion you created so you wouldn't have to face the face that you only work at E!"

Alison Brie chimed in, "If 'Community' were real, don't you think you would have seen a commercial for it on NBC?"

The 'Community' Cast Previews Their Gleeful Christmas Extravaganza Episode

by Maggie Furlong, posted Dec 8th 2011 10:00AM
Last year's 'Community' Christmas episode ranks at the top of my list of favorite holiday-themed TV episodes ever. So how will this year's stack up?

Well there's no funny clay figurines or stop-motion animation, but that's not to say it won't be as magical or uncontrollable as Abed's adventure last season. I mean, we already know there will be a rap video. In 'Regional Holiday Music' (Thurs., Dec. 8, 8PM ET on NBC), the Greendale glee club is sidelined, so the study group has to step up to sing in their place.

I caught up with Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Gillian Jacobs on the 'Community' set to hear more about their song-and-dance-filled holiday celebration, Troy and Abed's sweet rap, why this episode will be particularly gif-worthy and the "very awesome character" that 'Saturday Night Live' funnyman Taran Killam is playing.

'Community' Sneak Peek: Greendale's Most Famous Alum, Luis Guzman, Stops By

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 17th 2011 5:05PM
Luis Guzman on 'Community'If you're a hardcore 'Community' fan, then you've probably already goatee'd yourself on social media sites in support of the show. You also probably know that Greendale's most famous alum is stopping by tonight (Thurs., Nov. 17, 8PM ET on NBC).

In 'Documentary Filmmaking: Redux,' Dean Pelton directs the gang in a new commercial for Greendale, which also features fan-favorite students like Magnitude (Pop pop!), Fat Neil, Starburns and Leonard. Also stopping by: the most famous former Human Being of all, actor Luis Guzman, who, as we know, also happens to be immortalized with a statue on campus.

And just like last season's documentary episode, Abed takes over a bit, filming the filming of the commercial for his own archives.

I caught up with the 'Community' cast on set to talk about the Real Luis Guzman vs. Statue Luis Guzman -- here's what stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Gillian Jacobs had to say about "The Guz."

'Community' Season 3 Preview: New Teachers, Romance & Something Called Torg

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 22nd 2011 12:00PM
'Community' Season 3 starts off with a hallucination, some epic TV references and a quick and fun musical number (Thurs., Sept. 22, 8PM ET on NBC) -- and that's just in the first episode.

I visited the set to find out more about the season premiere, titled 'Biology 101,' and what else is coming up for our favorite Greendale Human Beings.

'Community' cast
We know Annie gets a new nemesis in "Asian Annie," Chang is now a security guard and Troy and Abed are roommates (with Annie moving in with them soon, too), but what's changed for the rest of the study group?

EXCLUSIVE 'Community' Season 3 Photos: Meet Asian Annie & Professor Martin Starr

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 9th 2011 3:00PM
'Community' star Alison BrieRaise your hand if you want to meet Annie's new rival!

Yeah, that's what we thought, 'Community' fans. For two seasons, Annie Edison's overachieving ways have endeared us to her, buttoned-up attitude, sweater sets, half ponytails and all.

Judging by these exclusive photos from the second episode of Season 3 (premieres Thurs., Sept. 22, 8PM ET on NBC), Annie (Alison Brie) will finally meet her match in what the hilariously un-PC people behind 'Community' are calling -- wait for it -- Asian Annie.

Asian Annie looks like a force to be reckoned with and (special bonus!) one of these pics also gives the first glimpse of their new poli-sci professor, played by 'Party Down' alum Martin Starr. Looks like he's taking Asian Annie's side in the girls' stare-down, but luckily Jeff's (Joel McHale) got Annie's back.

Take a look at the photos after the jump and tell us: How do you think Annie will react to her new classroom competition?

'Community' Cast Talks About Josh Holloway, Crazy Costumes & Paintball (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted May 2nd 2011 9:00AM
By now we've all heard a lot about 'Community''s big two-part paintball season finale (part one airs Thurs., May 5, 8PM ET on NBC; part two airs May 12), but what do we really know?

Well, Josh Holloway is guest starring as the mysterious Black Rider, and his old pal Chevy Chase was happy to have him and his dimples on set. Not surprisingly, everyone admits to having a massive crush on Holloway: "I was flirting with him. I don't care," Donald Glover said; "Dreamy with a capital "D," Joel McHale agreed.

Also, there's a Sergio Leone western theme for the first part, but the costumes and theme change a bit for part two, welcoming a 'Star Wars' theme -- sort of. There are stormtroopers running around and Danny Pudi's Abed looks a lot like Han Solo when he takes off his serape, but Yvette Nicole Brown's Shirley is dressed as Father Guido Sarducci.

Yep, so it'll be about as random as 'Community' fans have come to expect from the show.

Behind the Scenes of 'Community's' Halloween Episode

by Laura Prudom, posted Oct 28th 2010 11:55AM
Joel McHaleGreendale Community College is a very special kind of educational establishment, catering to the drop-outs, the rejects, the elderly and even those who like to forge their qualifications.

It's also one of the most entertaining places to spend 30 minutes of your time on a Thursday evening, even up against such ratings heavy-hitters as CBS' 'The Big Bang Theory' and Fox's 'Bones'.

Perhaps you've never seen an episode of NBC's 'Community,' now in its second season (quite likely, since the show is criminally underrated), but if you only watch one Halloween episode this year, you should make it this one -- it's even on at a special time, 8.30PM ET, so you don't have to choose between those geniuses on CBS and the ... different type of geniuses that populate 'Community'.

Besides, this episode has zombies, and Ken Jeong in skintight Spandex; what more could you ask for from a TV show?

The 'Community' Cast Opens Up About Their Chicken Obsession & Tonight's 'Basic Rocket Science' Episode (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 14th 2010 1:45PM
Last season of 'Community,' fans went clucking crazy over the chicken fingers episode. Earlier this season, the cast tweeted pics of their Chick-Fil-A-catered bash for Yvette Nicole Brown's birthday. And now, the Kentucky Fried Colonel himself is leading the Greendale Gang into space. (Sort of.)

What is it with this cast and chicken?

I visited the set while they were shooting tonight's big 'Apollo 13' homage (airs 8PM ET on NBC), aptly titled 'Basic Rocket Science,' where the gang gets locked in a KFC-branded flight simulator and takes a giant step for Greendale Human Being-kind.

Check out my interviews with the hilarious cast to get a sneak peek ...

Dan Harmon of 'Community' on Christmas Animation and the Second Season

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 21st 2010 3:00PM
The cast of 'Community' on NBCWhen you talk to 'Community' creator Dan Harmon, you have to expect to hear a certain amount of verbal gymnastics in his replies to your questions.

For instance, when our conversation turned to what he thought of one of his stars, Alison Brie, who does double-duty on 'Mad Men,' Harmon said this: "Alison is like this stem cell when it comes to the characters she can inhabit, which is a really cool thing." When I asked him about how the bromance between Abed (Danny Pudi) and Troy (Donald Glover) will be explored this season, he said, "I want to celebrate it and I want to challenge it, and I want to challenge it by celebrating it, and I want to celebrate it by challenging it."

Sometimes, you just have to let Harmon go on his verbal journeys, which leads to very long interviews. In fact, we spoke for almost an hour earlier this month about the upcoming second season (returning Thursday, September 23 at 8PM ET on NBC), including how he's going to explore the romantic entanglements from the season one finale, the stop-action animated Christmas episode he's planning, and what it'll be like to go head-to-head with the juggernaut known as 'The Big Bang Theory.'

'Community' Cast Talks Betty White, Dream Guest Stars & Topping the Paintball Episode (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 8th 2010 4:50PM
I added a few must-watch new shows to my DVR last fall, but of all the returning sophomore shows this year, I'm most excited for 'Community.' If they proved anything in Season 1 (with episodes focusing on paintball wars, awkward school dances and chicken fingers), it's that they can -- and will -- do just about anything.

I visited the set of 'Community' to catch up with the cast before Season 2 premieres (Thurs., Sept. 23, 8PM ET on NBC), and the episode they were shooting that day was epic ... but more on that closer to premiere. For now, don't you just want to see your favorite Greendale Human Beings in action?

Joel McHale, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs and Donald Glover gave me the scoop on Betty White's stint on the show, what other guest stars they'd love to have on and how they're actively trying to beat the fan-favorite paintball episode. I also got some Britta vs. Annie questions in there, found out who might be hooking up with Senor Chang (the hysterical Ken Jeong) and got the best treat of all: a nipple dance from Danny Pudi.

Watch and enjoy!

TV's Best Utility Players: Five Versatile Actors Who Can Do It All

by Ryan McKee, posted Aug 18th 2010 5:00PM
In baseball, a utility player is someone who can play several different positions well. These athletes are not usually the stars of the team, but they do whatever grunt work is necessary for the team to shine. Since that level of versatility is rare, those who can move seamlessly between positions are highly admired by their teammates.

While this same characteristic is valued in film stars -- take chameleons Johnny Depp and Gary Oldman, for example -- TV actors, on the other hand, historically perform best when choosing roles of a similar nature. Not anymore.

A number of today's gifted actors are standing out by proving their versatility, nailing dramatic characters as well as sitcom roles. Of those multifaceted actors, here are the five we think are the best utility players on TV.

The Cast of Community Discusses Sluttiness and Bestiality at 'Comic-Con' (VIDEO)

The Cast of 'Community' Discusses Sluttiness and Bestiality at 'Comic-Con'Part of the cast of 'Community' showed up at 'Comic-Con 2010 Live' (Sat., 3PM ET on G4). Gillian Jacobs, Joel McHale, and Alison Brie appeared at the convention to promote the upcoming season of their sitcom. And while talking to host Olivia Munn, the trio discussed such standard interview topics such as "sluts," "whores," and stealing Betty White's medication.

It all started when Olivia mentioned the recent love triangle on 'Community' as though it was a real thing. "You're a whore, and you cheated on her with her," she said to Joel and the two girls.

"I prefer a slut to whore," Alison replied.

Joel struck back by pointing out that Olivia was wearing fairly skanky boots during the interview. "These boots are my whore boots; I wear it proud," Olivia replied.

Eight Character Actresses You Should Know

by Jane Murphy, posted May 16th 2010 4:00PM
Where have I seen her before? The answer: everywhere. Here are eight of the hardest working character actresses on TV. Inspired by Eight Character Actors You Need to Know in Details, we present two quartets of women whose faces, at least, are familiar. After reading this, you won't be excused from calling any of them "Oh, her!"

Alison Brie – Classically trained at CalArts and still in her 20s, Brie specializes in "uptight and highly strung." She plays the prim Annie on 'Community,' but might forever be known as the sensible wife Pete Campbell doesn't deserve on ''Mad Men'.

Like a true character actor, Brie knows that the physicality of her roles is what helps her distinguish between the two. "Trudy has a different walk, she has a different voice. Annie carries herself differently, walks faster, does some things higher pitched, you know," she told TV Squad earlier this year.

'Community' - 'The Art of Discourse' Recap

'Community' - 'The Art of Discourse'
(S01E022)
I don't even go to college anymore (because I went at the right age ... DUH!), and those damned three teenagers were driving me crazy, too. Not crazy enough to do what the above scene is depicting, perhaps, but it makes me wonder how we let our teenagers survive into adulthood. They're almost too annoying.

It's nice to see, though, that as adults we are able to stay above their juvenile antics. We'd certainly never reciprocate in kind. We have our own pranks to pull. After all, that's what college is all about. It's on Abed's list.
