'All-American Muslim' series premiereFor Americans used to the outlandish Western marriage ceremony, it may have been a little odd seeing Jeff and Shadia sitting in chairs while a pretty simple one was performed on the series premiere of 'All-American Muslim' (Sun., 10PM ET on TLC).

This is because, as a country, Americans still no so very little about Eastern religions and cultures. In that regard, 'All-American Muslim' is a fascinating series, and perhaps an important one in spreading the message that we're all still people under our differing garbs and differing faiths.

The Jaafars & The Amens, 'All-American Muslim'What's the image you have in your head when you hear the term "All-American"? Does it look anything like the Jaafars or the Amens?

If not, TLC's new series 'All-American Muslim' might change your point of view. The show (premieres Sun., Nov. 13, 10PM ET) looks at the lives of five Muslim American families from the Dearborn, Michigan area, home to one of the most active Muslim communities in the country and the largest mosque in North America.

I sat down with members of two of those families -- parents of four Mike and Angie Jaafar, and Suehaila and Shadia Amen, sisters who are only a year apart in age but could not be more different, Suehaila, 32, is single and still lives at home, while her pierced and tattooed sister, Shadia, who has a son, Adam, from a previous marriage, is planning her second wedding -- to an Irish-Catholic guy who's converting to Islam.

TLC Orders 'All-American Muslim' Series

Muslims prayingTLC has ordered a new series that delves into the lives of Muslims living in America.

Look for 'All-American Muslim' to follow five families from Dearborn, Michigan, which is home to the largest mosque in the U.S.

"'All-American Muslim' is a perfect fit for TLC, inviting viewers into a world they might not otherwise experience," Amy Winter, general manager of TLC, said in a statement. "Through these families and their diverse experiences, we will explore how they blend their values and traditions with everyday life in America, providing insight into their culture with care and compassion."
