'Glee' Co-Creator Brad Falchuk Says Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith are Staying With the Show

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jul 25th 2011 7:30AM
'Glee' castIs there a little discord over in the 'Glee' camp? Last month Ryan Murphy said that several major 'Glee' cast members would be leaving the show at the end of Season 3. Their characters would graduate McKinley High and be replaced by new characters, just like in a real high school.

Makes sense, right? Well, yes and no. First, some of the actors concerned -- who are still under contract with the series -- expressed surprise at the news, with Chris Colfer saying that he'd found out via Twitter.

Then, last week Amber Riley said that the actors are all fine with the decision, and Lea Michele tweeted that "It's all part of the plan and it's all good."

Now, however, has Murphy's co-creator Brad Falchuk tossed a wrench into the works?

He told a Comic-Con audience that the characters are graduating, but they're not leaving the show: "It was never our plan or our intention to let them go. ... They are not done with the show after this season."

Oh, but he still had bad news for Sam fans: Chord Overstreet is done with the show.

Amber Riley Addresses Her 'Glee' Future on 'Access Hollywood Live' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 21st 2011 6:45PM
Amber Riley of 'Glee' on 'Access Hollywood Live'We've already heard that Chris Colfer (Kurt), Lea Michele (Rachel), and Cory Monteith (Finn) are leaving 'Glee' after the third season. But what about Amber Riley, who plays powerhouse singer Mercedes Jones? On 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) Thursday, Riley addressed the future of the cast, rumors of a possible spin-off, and assured Billy Bush she will not be stripping for season three.

Riley said her departing co-stars are fine with the situation, and looking forward to filming season three. She also hinted at her own 'Glee' future. "It's been a roller coaster ride," she said. "It's been absolutely amazing, but, I mean, I don't want to be a 30-year-old high school student, either. And 'Glee' was just a great catapult for us. Nobody knew who we were and we'll always be thankful for it. It's just been an amazing blessing."

'The Simpsons' Premiere: 'Glee,' 'Flight of the Conchords' Show Up and Sing (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 27th 2010 1:00AM
'Simpsons' Premiere: 'Glee,' 'Flight of the Conchords' Show Up and SingThis is the 22nd season of 'The Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on Fox). Wow, has it really been that long? The years have just flown by. This particular 'TV Squad' writer still remembers when the first episode of the show came on. I happened to be in middle school when 'The Simpsons' debuted, which means that:

1) I'm really old now.

And ...

2) Gosh, 'The Simpsons' has been on TV for a really long time. I also recall when the show was considered so scandalous that Bart Simpson t-shirts were banned in my school for being too "in your face," but that's neither here nor there ...

At any rate, moving on ... 'The Simpsons' is now a beloved cultural institution, featuring many, many celebrity guest stars. And tonight's episode is no different. The show welcomes Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, stars of 'Flight of the Conchords,' -- and members of the identically named band, which is "New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo a capella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo." Yay! ... Oh, and some people from 'Glee' show up as well.

'Glee's' Amber Riley to Sing National Anthem at All-Star Game

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 12th 2010 10:20AM
Amber RileyUsually, you immediately know the name of the person selected to sing the national anthem at Major League Baseball's All-Star Game, but that may not be the case this year, Amber Riley has been selected for the honor, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While that name might not ring immediately as familiar, fans of 'Glee' know her as the face and voice behind Mercedes Jones.

It's an intriguing choice, as Riley is not even the lead vocalist for the glee club on the show. That honor goes to first-time Emmy nominee Lea Michele. But Riley has come to shine in the ensemble for her spunky attitude and powerhouse vocals. That strength will be featured as she tackles not only the national anthem, but a set of additional songs beforehand.

Last summer, the All-Star Game scored a solid 14.6 million viewers, which is a great showcase for Riley and 'Glee,' returning to Fox for its second season in the fall. 'The 81st All-Star Game' premieres tomorrow, Tue. Jul. 13, 2010, at 8PM ET on Fox. Riley will be joined by the Canadian Tenors on the Canadian national anthem, and Colbie Calait for 'God Bless America' during the 7th inning stretch.

Glee: Road to Sectionals - DVD Review

by Kona Gallagher, posted Jan 9th 2010 10:02AM
glee dvdReleasing Glee on DVD before the first season is even over was somewhat of an odd move, but one that makes sense when you look at both its fanatical fan base and the fact that it's taking a nearly unheard four-month hiatus (it returns April 13) between the first and second halves of the its premiere season. Basically, FOX knows they have a hit on their hands and they're trying to milk it for everything it's worth.

It's a smart move, considering that the response of most Glee fans (like myself) when they heard that there would be a DVD this quickly was something along the lines of, "Ohmygodgivethatomerightnow.Glee!Glee!Glee!." The days are short and dark; we need some sort of happiness to get us through the next couple of months until the new episodes come out.

My question about the DVD was, how good will it be? I mean, it will obviously have the first 13 episodes, so that's a big plus, but what of the DVD extras? Is there a reason to buy the DVD instead of just getting all of the episodes off of iTunes? The answer to that question is, "it depends on how you feel about video diaries."

Review: Glee - Mattress

by Jane Boursaw, posted Dec 3rd 2009 5:02AM
Glee: Mattress
(S01E12) While they were in there, I told 'em to go ahead and yank out those tear ducts. Wasn't usin' 'em." - Sue Sylvester

I wouldn't say this is the best Glee episode we've had, but it had some good moments, and of course, that big reveal, which we'll talk about after the jump. The mattress scene was a nice little number, but I wasn't familiar with the song performed by Rachel and Finn, so that didn't do as much for me.

Sue Sylvester was back to true form from her compassionate scene with her sister a few episodes ago. It's hard to believe she'd have that much feeling for her sister, and yet still be a big you-know-what in the rest of her life. Glee breaks down stereotypes in some cases, but I'm not sure Sue falls into that category. She still seems like a caricature to me.

Review: Glee - Ballad

by Jane Boursaw, posted Nov 19th 2009 2:16AM
Glee: Ballad
(S01E10) "What does a heart attack feel like?" - Finn, in a panicky call to Kurt after facing Quinn's parents at dinner

The subject of this episode of Glee was ballads. It was learned that the club must perform a ballad at sectionals in a few weeks, and the writers managed to weave the soulful songs into every storyline. The first was "Endless Love," sung by Will and Rachel. It set the tone for one of the storylines -- her crush on the teacher. In fact, the episode was filled with odd-couple pairings, thanks to a hat-draw for ballad partners.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Glee' Kids on Baby-Signing, Duets and the 'Single Ladies' Dance

by Patricia Chui, posted Nov 10th 2009 1:00PM
GleeYou may not know all their names, but if you've been watching 'Glee,' you know who they are: The kids in the Glee Club have shot to stardom right along with their new hit show.

And it's not because they've got distinctive nicknames like "Wheels," "The Asian Girl," "The Cute One" and "The Hot Guy With the Mohawk" ... or because they're all talented singers and dancers. The cast members of 'Glee' are energetic, funny and a genuine kick to be around, as we learned when they visited the AOL offices to hang out with us (jealous?) and answer fan questions.

So what did we learn about Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz? Maybe that whenever you see Kevin frown, it's because he's trying not to crack up at a Sue Sylvester line ... or that Amber thinks her character Mercedes beats up on her brothers ... or that someone once asked the cast to autograph a baby ... or that Lea has a song in mind for a potential Rachel-Puck duet ... or that Cory plays drums for real on one 'Glee' recording.

Singin' in the rain: Glee cast shines at the World Series

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 1st 2009 2:09PM
amber_riley_GleeWhen you're hot, you're hot. Fox's Glee is hot. It's sizzling. The music is all over the charts. Their single, "Don't Stop Believin'" went gold. It seems like everything it going right for this Ryan Murphy show.

For the third game of the World Series on the night of Halloween, fate tried to rain on the Glee parade. Literally. It rained.

In Philadelphia where the game was being played, there was a rain delay of over an hour. If you were a Glee fan -- a Gleek -- tuning in just to see the troupe before the game, you had to be disappointed.
