by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 6th 2011 2:15AM
Toby Keith, 'American Country Awards'It was a big night for Toby Keith at the 'American Country Awards' (Mon., 8PM ET on FOX), as he took home honors not just for work he's done in the past year, but over the past decade. Co-hosts Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth were on hand to bestow upon Keith the Artist of the Decade Award, but Keith's good buddy Stephen Colbert couldn't miss out on the opportunity, sending kudos from his desk at 'The Colbert Report.'

It was only the second year of the fan-voted country music competition, but the stars weren't shy at showing up to the sophomore event. Fan support certainly helped former 'American Idol' contestants from the first season to now.

Nigel Lythgoe Says No Big Changes Planned for 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 25th 2011 8:00AM
With the Season 11 premiere only a few weeks away, 'American Idol' boss Nigel Lythgoe has released a new promo video (watch it after the jump) and talked about his plans for the show.

After all the upheaval surrounding Season 10 after the departure of Simon Cowell and the most of the judging panel, Lythgoe says he's done changing the show around. He told the AP "I think we made a lot of tweaks last year. I'm not sure that we want to make too many more tweaks this year."

Lythgoe acknowledged that the biggest change he made to the show in Season 10, which was to stop making contestants sing in styles other than their own, had been a game-changer. It produced the first country winner since 2005, and made it possible for contestants like Casey Abrams to go further in the competition than they might have done otherwise.

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 25th 2011 5:30AM
Scotty McCreery, 2011 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade This year, we're betting that 'American Idol' stars Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina are mostly thankful that turkey day is firmly behind them. The Season 10 winner and runner-up both had pretty bad experiences yesterday.

An estimated 50 million viewers were watching as country crooner McCreery was revealed to be lip-syncing at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

Meanwhile, Alaina can now join the pantheon of singers -- yes, we mean you Christina Aguilera, Cyndia Lauper and ... um ... Scotty McCreery -- who've flubbed the national anthem on live TV.

Taylor Flirts With 'Idol' Alum Ace Young at Daughter's Party on 'Real Housewives' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 22nd 2011 2:30AM
Ace Young, 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'Taylor and Russell certainly spared no expense for Kennedy's fifth birthday on 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' (Mon., 9PM ET on Bravo). It's a good thing the cameras were rolling, too, because I certainly don't remember my fifth birthday party.

If you're going so far as to have a former 'American Idol' alum write a song for her, you want her to be able to remember it. Or at least stick in the DVD and rewatch it.

Taylor seemed to enjoy Ace Young's presence at the festivities even more than she loves his song -- and she cried the first time she heard that. "If you were any cuter," she started. "You're killing me right now!"

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 12th 2011 6:15PM
Now that 'The X Factor' has moved past its 'Idol'-inspired laugh-at-the-weird people stage, it's beginning its 'The Voice'-inspired mentor phase, where the contenders will be split into 4 groups, each to be tutored by one of the show's judges. On 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 7AM PT on FOX) Cowell explained what the show is looking for in its champion.

"You've got to find somebody and you've gotta show how you can turn them into a real winner in the real world. Not within a competition, 'cuz someone's always going to win a show, somebody you can say ... we helped make this person into a star," he explained.

Casey Abrams Acknowledges He Was Too Weird for 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Sep 28th 2011 5:00PM

'American Idol' fan favorite Casey Abrams checked in with 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 9AM PT on Fox) to talk about the 'Idols Summer Tour' and perform a very 'Casey' interpretation of the Rob Thomas/Santana song 'Smooth.'

He reported that all of the former 'Idol' contestants were getting along well on the tour. "More than you'd imagine," he said. "James Durbin got us into wrestling ... watching it, we weren't doing it."

Casey's eclectic style, which is a little rock and a lot of jazz, got him all the way to the Top 6 in Season 10, but he didn't connect with everyone. When Dorothy Lucey asked him if he thought he was too weird for 'Idol,' he concurred. "I feel ... yes, yeah. A little too much, you know?"

Simon Cowell is Still Engaged, Planning an 'X Factor' Musical

Simon Cowell, Mezhgan HussainyRumors that Simon Cowell's relationship with fiance Mezhgan Hussainy is on the rocks are totally false, a rep for the 'X Factor' impresario confirmed recently.

According to our pals at AOL Music, Cowell's spokesperson Max Clifford said the pair is "as close as ever," and that the brunette woman he was allegedly spotted on a date with is a total mystery.

"This British brunette is such a mystery, even Simon doesn't know who she is," Clifford said on the British TV show 'This Morning.' "I'm afraid there is no truth in it. It's nonsense. I have spoken to Simon today about this tale and there is no mystery woman. Simon and Mezhgan are as close as ever."

Simon Cowell Previews 'The X-Factor,' Reveals Guest Judge (VIDEO)

by AOL TV Staff, posted Sep 15th 2011 11:00PM
Less than a week before 'X-Factor' makes its season debut on Fox, entertainment reporter Julie Chang of 'Good Day New York' (weekdays, 9AM ET on Fox) caught up with Simon Cowell at the show's red carpet premiere event. Cowell compared the experience of starting on a new show to his beginnings with 'American Idol' and revealed a celebrity judge.

Chang said Cowell looked "like a new man," and asked him if he had more invested in the new show, since its one he had created. "Well, it's like starting all over again," he said. "When I came here ten years ago, it was a similar feeling. I had no idea what was going to happen. But I did like the show. And this is kind of the same feeling. It's a different show. I've enjoyed it. I don't know what's going to happen. So it's exciting."

Chang also overhead other interviews in which Cowell said Rihanna will be a guest judge, which Cowell confirmed. It was supposed to be Mariah Carey, but circumstances conspired against her. "She couldn't judge because of the hurricane, but I found someone bigger," he said. Hopefully he wasn't planning on asking Carey back.

Simon Cowell Rips 'American Idol' Creator Over 'X Factor' Lawsuit

by Chris Harnick, posted Aug 24th 2011 3:30PM
Simon CowellWhy is 'American Idol' creator Simon Fuller suing over 'The X Factor'? Simon Cowell, the man behind 'The X Factor,' is asking the same question.

Fuller filed a lawsuit against Fox and 'X Factor' producer Fremantle
claiming he is owed an executive producer credit and millions of dollars for the new Fox singing competition.

Cowell, who spent nine seasons judging 'American Idol,' told the Hollywood Reporter he's surprised Fuller is suing. Why? "Because you can't give someone an executive producer's title if they didn't executive produce the show."

"It's like me saying I want to be executive producer on 'The Voice' or 'Project Runway,'" Cowell said.

Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson Confirmed for 'American Idol' Season 11

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 17th 2011 1:30PM
American Idol JudgesIn the showbiz world, nothing is official until the ink dries on the contract. That's why, despite 'American Idol' producer Nigel Lythgoe telling host Ryan Seacrest on the radio last week that Jennifer Lopez would be back for Season 11 of the Fox hit, we couldn't be certain if J.Lo would actually be back in 2012.

Thankfully, both sides were able to work out a deal, and now Fox has officially announced that all three of last season's judges -- Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy "Dawg" Jackson -- will return to gage the singing prowess of America's superstar hopefuls on 'American Idol' this spring.

Watch Pia Toscano's 'This Time' Video

by AOL Music Staff, posted Aug 14th 2011 9:00AM
Pia ToscanoPia Toscano has yet to release her debut album, but the season 10 'American Idol' contestant dropped her debut music video this week, premiering the simple-yet-sexy video for her debut single, 'This Time.'

In the new video, the 22-year-old talent rolls around on a beach, frolics in the ocean and sings her heart out, throwing seductive stares at the camera and stroking her luscious brown locks.

From the looks of it, the video was made on a pretty low budget, but with a voice and a face like that, who needs all the fancy bells and whistles anyway?

The eliminated 'Idol' hopeful is currently touring with the American Idol Live Tour as she works on her forthcoming debut album, which she told AOL Music will be a "relatable" and a "pop album with R&B influence." "It has an edgy, soulful and powerful vibe," she added.
