'American Horror Story': Is Violet Dead? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 8th 2011 5:30AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Smoldering Children'For the past couple of weeks, fans of 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX) have taken to the Internet with the question, "Is Violet dead?" They'd been analyzing her scenes in recent weeks, speculating that maybe she didn't survive her earlier suicide attempt.

As if in answer to their questions, Violet took center stage in this week's episode, where it was definitively revealed if she was indeed dead or alive. But Violet's state wasn't the only revelation.

Mena Suvari is The Black Dahlia on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 1st 2011 7:00AM
Mena Suvari, 'American Horror Story' - 'Spooky Little Girl'We're not sure what was the more disturbing revelation this week on 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 9PM ET on VH1). That Tate fathered one of Vivian's children, which may mean that it's the Antichrist. That Hayden lost her cool and killed Constance's young lover. Or, that Ben finally saw the real Moira O'Hara.

We're sure for Ben it was the latter, as she told him that he's finally starting to see things for what they really are and then he saw her for the Frances Conroy she really is. When Elizabeth Short (Mena Suvari) walked in as a surprise patient, Ben didn't realize he was seeing the Black Dahlia, just as he refused to see that Hayden was a ghost.

The Hauntings Drive Vivian to Shoot on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 24th 2011 4:30AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Rubber Man''American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX) is coming together stronger each week, and it looks like things are only going to get worse for the Harmons now that Ben's ex-lover Hayden is dead and among the spirits haunting the house.

Not only is she dead, but she knows it and is reveling in it. She rallied the house's first mistress, Nora, to her side with the mission of driving Vivian insane so the two of them could each have one of her twins when they're born.

It turned out to be not that difficult a task, either. She was already worried when she saw a photo of Nora, who'd also been by to look at the house. Suddenly, she started questioning everything she saw, and Hayden made sure she had plenty to question. And then there's the rubber man.

'Sexiest Man Alive 2011': Which TV Stars Made the Cut?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 17th 2011 6:05AM
Bradley Cooper, People's 'Sexiest Man Alive 2011'Bradley Cooper's been celebrating being named as 'People' magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive 2011.' After saying his first thought on hearing the news was, "My mother is going to be so happy," the buff 'Hangover' star joked "I'm waiting for Dax Shepard to come out, and that it's an episode of 'Punk'd.'"

Cooper added: "I think it's really cool that a guy who doesn't look like a model can have this. ... I think I'm a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying."

So which TV stars have been deemed hot enough to join Cooper on the list? Well, there are some conventional hotties like 'Luther' star Idris Elba, 'Community's Joel McHale and 'Game of Thrones' glowering Horse Lord Jason Momoa, but there are also a few guys who are, well, perhaps less obviously hot in the conventional sense.

The Truth Behind Larry's Burns Revealed on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 17th 2011 5:30AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Open House'Larry Harvey has been one of the most enigmatic and mysterious characters on 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX). He isn't a ghost haunting Murder House, nor was his relation to it completely clear, until this week.

In fact, we gained a greater understanding of why Constance moved next door and has stayed so close to the house. We learned that Tate was her son, and we know that he haunts those halls. But she has a far more grotesque son she used to keep locked in the attic whose spirit lingers as well.

Eric Stonestreet Is a Patient Afraid of The Piggy Man on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 10th 2011 6:45AM
Eric Stonestreet, 'American Horror Story' - 'Piggy, Piggy'This week, we learned that there are horrors that have nothing to do with the supernatural lurking around the corners of 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX). While the secret history of Tate was the driving focus of the episode, Eric Stonestreet appeared as one of Ben's patients tortured by his fear of urban legends.

One legend in particular, about "The Piggy Man," is reminiscent of the classic "Bloody Mary" legend. Ben gets him to recite the words into a mirror that would summon The Piggy Man on two separate occasions throughout the episode, and neither of them turn out well.

Save Our Stars: Actors We Want to Rescue from Bad or Blah Shows

by Maureen Ryan, posted Nov 8th 2011 1:30PM
SOS ListIt happens every year: Disappointing new shows arrive on our TV screens, and they not only leave us cold, they also drag some of our favorite performers down into the muck of mediocrity. If only we could wave a magic wand and free these actors from disappointing or inconsistent vehicles!

As it stands, however, the majority of the shows listed below -- from 'Ringer' to 'American Horror Story' -- have been picked up for full seasons or given additional seasons. As you might imagine, this is not news that fills me with joy. I'd love to see the performers below released from their current gigs one way or another. I say this from love: If 'Ringer' killed off Nestor Carbonell's cop character, I wouldn't shed a tear. Rather, I'd rejoice at the idea that the actor would be free to be awesome on another (ideally excellent) program.

Hayden Returns With Secrets to Reveal on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 3rd 2011 7:15AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Halloween, Part 2''American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX) wrapped its two-part Halloween special last night, and arguably delivered its tensest moments, truly establishing itself as a horror show worth reckoning with. On Halloween night, the spirits were free to roam the city freely, which made them even more dangerous and unpredictable than usual.

But one ghost didn't need to leave the house to cause trouble. Too bad for Ben that Larry killed his mistress, Hayden, on the property because it allowed her spirit to rise up and spill all his secrets to Vivien.

FX Renews 'American Horror Story'

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 31st 2011 2:15PM
American Horror Story RenewedAfter scoring record ratings for the network, FX has renewed 'American Horror Story' for a second season.

"It's one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience -- it's something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up," John Landgraf, president and general manager of FX Networks, said in a statement. "Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with 'Nip/Tuck,' 'Glee' and now 'American Horror Story,' which will be scaring FX's viewers to death for many years to come."

Addy's Halloween Night Takes a Shocking Turn on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 6:30AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Halloween, Part 1'Adelaide has been one of the more intriguing characters on 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX). It appears that most of the people the Harmons encounter in the house are ghosts, but Addy was always very real. And yet she was in the house almost constantly.

She's been connected with it dating back to the 1970s when she was a child, but the spirits don't seem to wish her any harm. Of course, they don't seem to mess with her mother, Constance, either but that could be because Constance may well be scarier than any of them.

Spook Yourself on Halloween with 'Paranormal Witness'

by Stephanie Earp, posted Oct 25th 2011 5:45PM
This Halloween, if you want to give yourself a good scare, you've got options. You can get down with AMC's flesh-eating 'The Walking Dead' on Sunday, or take in the Canadian debut of 'American Horror Story' on brand-new FX Canada channel on Monday, but for my money, the most genuine chills to be had are over on Space (Mondays at 10PM), with 'Paranormal Witness.'

Quietly growing its audience from week to week, this reality series is surprisingly effective considering the tools in its arsenal are pretty familiar. It retells scary and unexplained stories using a mixture of reenactments, interviews with actual people, archival audio and video and lots of spooky sound and lighting effects. So basically, things 'America's Most Wanted' wasn't doing. But the show transcends the sum of its parts, and I think it comes down to great writing and great casting.

Things Get Even Worse When Larry Meets Ben's Mistress on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 20th 2011 7:00AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Murder House'I know we're only three episodes in, but it feels like we really need some things to start making sense on 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX). More and more questions and mysteries about who and what all these people are keep being thrown at us, with very little explanation of motive or intentions.

For example, when Ben's ex-lover showed up suddenly announcing that she'd decided not to abort the baby, that was certainly going to cause chaos in Ben's life. She was demanding he be involved and help pay for the baby. So that's bad for Ben.

Spirits Aren't the Most Dangerous Thing in the House on 'American Horror Story' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 13th 2011 6:15AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Home Invasion'It looks like the threats that aren't supernatural are just as dangerous on 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX). The question of why the Harmon family just doesn't move out were addressed head on -- or at least the conversation has begun -- in this week's installment.

Ben discovered he wasn't quite done with the very young woman he cheated on his wife with, as she's pregnant and wants him there when she gets an abortion. That left Vivien and Violet alone in the house, though both Tate and Addy seem able to come in whenever they want.

'American Horror Story': Ben Gets a Warning About the House He'll Surely Ignore (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 6th 2011 3:45AM
'American Horror Story' - 'Pilot'After much anticipation, 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX) finally premiered, and it's about as twisted, convoluted and bizarre as you could hope. Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk seem to be happy to have returned to FX, where they created 'Nip/Tuck.'

'AHS' brings plenty of sex appeal with its horror, which has elements of 'The Shining' and other psychological horrors. Thankfully, they don't appear to have gone the slasher route with this one, preferring to do a lot of their work in the dark and in the mind.
