'American Idol' - 'Idol Gives Back/1 of 7 Voted Off' Recap

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 21st 2010 11:09PM
American Idol, Idol Gives Back 2010
It's "Inspiration Week" on 'American Idol,' which means the Idols sang inspirational songs on Tuesday, and 'Idol Gives Back' was on tap for tonight. It's truly amazing how much this charitable endeavor helps people around the globe. It's not easy to see all of the suffering going on in the world -- especially the children -- but it's really easy to pick up the phone and make a small donation that could save a kid's life.

Tonight, celebrities reported on the huge malaria problem in Africa; Save the Children; a food bank in Monrovia, Calif.; and global health, among others. At the end of the show, Simon Cowell reported that $15 million had been raised during the two hours the show aired. That's awesome. For more info and to learn how you can give, check out 'Idol Gives Back.'

Crystal Bowersox Performs 'People Get Ready' on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by AOL TV Staff, posted Apr 20th 2010 10:33PM
'Fess up ... when Crystal Bowersox broke down at the end of her performance of The Impressions' 'People Get Ready' (a song written by Curtis Mayfield) during tonight's 'American Idol' Top 7 performances, your eyes got a little leaky, too.

Bowersox went sans instrument for the first time all season and gave a performance that was already sharp and powerful before she looked into the audience and saw Papa Bowersox ... and totally lost it.

by Aimee Deeken, posted Apr 20th 2010 4:11AM
Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres Talk 'Idol' on 'Larry King Live'Larry King has interviewed some 40,000 politicians, athletes and entertainers -- basically every individual the culture's currently buzzing about. Last night on 'Larry King Live' (weeknights, 9PM ET on CNN) he spoke with 'American Idol's' judges, and it was time to get to the bottom of the Simon Cowell-Ryan Seacrest banter: Is it an act, or do they really not like each other?

Katie Stevens Dishes About Simon Cowell (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 19th 2010 10:10PM
Katie Stevens Dishes About Simon CowellSinger Katie Stevens appeared today on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' (weekdays, syndicated). The 17-year-old was kicked off 'American Idol' last week, but she seemed to be in high spirits while talking to DeGeneres. She also got to dish with DeGeneres about Simon Cowell. In her spare time -- when not hosting a talk show -- DeGeneres is also a judge on 'Idol.' So the two ladies had a lot to talk about.

Adam Lambert Should Replace Simon Cowell on 'American Idol'

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 18th 2010 2:04PM
adam_lambert_fox_american_idolThis hasn't been a particularly exciting season of 'American Idol.' The addition of Ellen DeGeneres has rated a 'B-minus' at best, and that's if you're grading on a curve. The contestants have failed to create the buzz we've heard in previous seasons.

The absence of Paula Abdul as a judge has given rise to rumors that she's going to be asked back next season to bring back the 'train wreck' factor. And then there's the reality that Simon Cowell has been punching the clock, sort of sleepwalking through the competition which will be his last go round with 'Idol.'

Two Contestants Eliminated on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by AOL TV Staff, posted Apr 14th 2010 11:27PM
Two 'American Idol' performers were cut in a double elimination brought on by Michael Lynche's save from last week. Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens were given their walking papers tonight.

Garcia, who's never been able to truly top his much hyped performance of Paula Abdul's 'Straight Up' from Hollywood, was eliminated first, followed by the 17-year-old Stevens, who had pitch and stage presence challenges all season.

'Glee' Return Sets Series Ratings Record

by Gary Susman, posted Apr 14th 2010 3:55PM
The return of 'Glee' after a four-month absence hit Fox's network rivals like a blue slushie in the face. Not only did last night's midseason premiere help Fox score a Tuesday night ratings victory, but the show's audience of 13.7 million set a record both for 'Glee' and for all of this season's new scripted series.

According to the Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed blog, 'Glee's' re-introduction (an episode aptly titled 'Hell-O') drew a 5.6 rating among adults 18 to 49, holding on to 78 percent of the audience from its lead-in, 'American Idol' (20.6 million, 7.3 rating). That's an audience 44 percent larger than the one that stuck around for the 'Glee' pilot after 2009's 'Idol' finale.

'American Idol' - 'Top 9 Compete ... Again' Recap

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 14th 2010 4:08AM
American Idol, Casey James, Elvis Week"My tongue is not nearly as talented as yours." - Ryan Seacrest to Adam Lambert

It was an interesting night on 'American Idol,' as that statement suggests. Obviously, Ryan was talking about Adam's tongue action while singing, but when he said it, Adam's eyebrows went up. He and Ryan would make a cute couple, wouldn't they?

Anyway, Ryan's mom was in the audience, too, which made things even more interesting. That and the fact that after Big Mike's save last week -- which I'm thankful for -- the Idols are definitely feeling the pressure. Two -- count 'em, two -- people will be sent packing this week.

Based on the performances, I'm guessing they won't be the ones we predict. Meaning that Tim Urban and Andrew Garcia will still be here after tonight. Ok, maybe not Andrew.

Crystal Bowersox Performs 'Saved' on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by AOL TV Staff, posted Apr 13th 2010 10:45PM
The best performance of the week on 'American idol' came, not surprisingly, from Crystal Bowersox, who Randy Jackson hailed as "the second coming of Bonnie Raitt."

Bowersox traded in her customary acoustic for an electric guitar, and delivered a raucous, up-tempo performance of Presley's 'Saved' that the judges loved.

'American Idol' - 'Top 9 Results Show' Recap

American Idol 2010 - Top 9 Results Show
Ryan Seacrest started off the show with "Prepare yourself for a surprise or two," and we definitely got that. Based on your comments on my 'Who Will Win 'American Idol'? post a few days ago, it's really anyone's game at this point. And I mean, anyone, from the shoe-ins like Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus to the dark horses like Tim Urban and Andrew Garcia. After this week's performance show, Kona thinks Casey James also falls into that dark horse category, and I agree.

After a message about Idol Gives Back, a group medley of Lennon/McCartney tunes, and a Ford commercial (kaleidoscope fun!), we got to the results.

Fox Upping the Music for a Week

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 7th 2010 3:04PM
Homer SimpsonWith the success of 'American Idol,' 'Glee,' and other music-related franchises, it should be no wonder that Fox wants to milk it by having music-themed episodes of several of its shows for the end of April and beginning of May. These shows include 'The Simpsons,' 'Family Guy,' 'Bones,' 'Fringe,' and 'House.'

Before anybody panics and starts envisioning David Boreanaz or Hugh Laurie breaking out in a rendition of 'Feelings' in the middle of a dramatic moment, the article states that the episodes will be music-themed but not necessarily musicals. 'Family Guy' often has musical numbers in their episodes and it's not even a stretch to have Homer and Marge to break out in song. But the character of Bones? Or House? No way.

House will most likely treat a rock star patient and Bones will have to investigate something involving an opera singer or some such plot device. Yes, it's silly, but it could be worse. Remember when NBC went green for a week and introduced Greenzo? I rest my case.

Five Shows in the Tradition of 'The Carol Burnett Show'

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 7th 2010 2:04PM
carol_burnett_show_logo_cbsTelevision legend Carol Burnett has been making the talk show circuit to promote her new book, a look back at her wonderful, classic variety show 'The Carol Burnett Show,' called "This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection." The book sounds like a must-read, especially if you grew up on the comedy, music and characters that Carol, Harvey Korman, Lyle Waggoner and Tim Conway brought to TV viewers every week.

In fact, to this day, those characters are still hilarious. Last week, my sister and I recalled the Mrs. Wiggins sketch, with Tim Conway as Mr. Tudball. We both laughed at the memory.

Sadly, 'The Carol Burnett Show' today is like a relic from the past. It was in many ways the end of an era. Like Carol herself said in USA Today, the cost of those shows would be too much today. But when she was doing her show, CBS Television City was also producing 'The Sonny & Cher Show,' 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour' and 'The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.' That was a lot of variety, something that's non-existent today .

Didi Benami Sings, Talks Ryan Seacrest on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Apr 7th 2010 4:29AM
Didi Benami Performs on 'Late Show with David Letterman'Now that she's off 'American Idol,' perhaps she could speak frankly on a few things about 'Idol' that appear to be bugging David Letterman. That seemed to be the premise when she visited the 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) last night and performed Kara DioGuardi's "Terrified."

Dave asked her, "By the way, why is Ryan Seacrest on this show?" and "What about that Simon Cowell -- what is he sitting on?"

Didi gave some tactful answers and added that -- like other ex-'Idol' contestants this year -- she was grateful for Ellen Degeneres' presence on the judges' panel. "She added comic relief," Didi explained.
