'The Mentalist' - 'Aingavite Baa' Recap
(S02E18) - "Oh, that's OK then. As long as you're sorry, we'll let you go ... kidding." - Jane, to the killerOK, did I miss the part of the episode where they explained what "Aingavite Baa" means? I've been wondering all day what it could mean and even typed the words into one of those web anagram generators. I came up with "Avian Abate Age," "Gab Eat Via An I," "A Agate Via Bin," and many others (including several with the word "vagina" in them, but I doubt that has any meaning).
If I missed it somehow, let me know in the comments so I can look goofy.
Jingles reality show coming to CBS - VIDEO
Well, here's something about reality TV that didn't make me gag. Survivor mega-producer Mark Burnett has a new unscripted project, greenlighted by CBS, called Jingles. It's a competition show in which contestants have to create tunes for products, commercial jingles. No mud wrestling, no unlocking keys to puzzle pieces the size of boulders, no eating slugs wrapped in wild boar bacon. This time it's all about catchy melodies, clever hooks and lyrics that incorporate product info whether the products an erectile dysfunction pill or a new luxury car. What's On Tonight: Price Is Right, SpongeBob, Battlestar Galactica

Did you get Amne$ia?
Yet another game show premiered last night. This time, it was NBC's Amne$ia hosted by Dennis Miller. This show has a similar premise than FOX's The Moment of Truth: contestants reveal secrets and facts about themselves in order to win money. The main difference between the two: Amne$ia does it tastefully while Moment goes for the ugliest and dirtiest secrets and somewhat doesn't care that your relationships go awry after the airings. What's On Tonight: The Price Is Right, Amnesia, Stargate Atlantis

Dennis Miller has Amnesia
When I first heard that Dennis Miller was going to host a game show, I thought to myself "yeah, I covered that already." But I didn't know that the show I had written about had already ended and this was a new game show he was going to host.
The previous one was Grand Slam, the GSN show that pitted former game show champs (like Ken Jennings) against each other. Looks like that show only lasted one season (hopefully I can catch the reruns), but Miller isn't through with game shows yet. He's going to host the new NBC show Amnesia, which will premiere on NBC in the 1 vs. 100 slot when that show ends its season.
Less writers = More reality?
Remember the '88 Writer's Strike? Well, while it didn't impact scripted television as much as the current strike, as it occurred largely during the off-season. Yahoo! reminds us that it was during this period that a network was finally willing to take a chance on an unscripted series. Nineteen years later, Cops is still on the air. And back then, reality wasn't even a genre.
Now, networks are all about this alternate form of entertainment/schedule filling. Even if the strike is resolved relatively soon, it may be too late to save the new year's schedule, and thus reality shows are being picked up by the bucketloads to fill the gaps. If the strike continues much into 2008 look for more and more to be put on the air.
Stargate Atlantis: Tabula Rasa

(S04E06) One of the complaints that many have about Stargate Atlantis is the amount of one-shot stories that air as opposed to constant episodes involving the continuing battle with the Wraith, or Replicators, or Romulans, or whomever the evil race du jour is. While a continuing storyline such as this would be all well and good I think that it would also be boring and perhaps deter new viewers from watching. Heck, even Babylon 5 and the later seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine had stand-alone stories. By allowing these episodes Atlantis gives newbies a chance to jump on without being utterly confused.

Today on TV Squad Daily:
- So the Emmys are going to be younger, fresher, more enthusiastic this year. What does that look like? Joey Fatone.
- The Heroes world tour might be coming to a city near you! Probably not, but maybe.
- Mark Burnett's new game show sounds kind of boring.
Mark Burnett has Amnesia
NBC has never seen a game show it didn't like.
The Peacock Network has bought a new game show from Survivor/Apprentice reality show guru Mark Burnett called Amnesia. Actually, it's spelled Amne$ia, with a $ in place of the S. Just so you remember it's a game show and not a medical program.
The show will feature contestants being asked questions about their own lives, to see how much they know and remember. Producers will research the background of each contestant by interviewing friends and family.
Sam I Am has to change name
The new ABC comedy Sam I Am, about a bad amnesiac woman (Christina Applegate) who has to start her life over as a good person, has to change its name before it starts this fall. And it's all Dr. Seuss' fault.
The estate of the Green Eggs & Ham author has refused to give the network permission to use the phrase as the title of the show. They did not like that ABC/used the phrase/illegally. They did not like it here, there, or anywhere.
But it all works out in the end. The new title, Samantha Be Good, fits the above premise of the show too. I was sort of surprised they were going to use the title Sam I Am anyway. Not for the Dr. Seuss connection, but because of that Sean Penn flick I Am Sam.
