Amy Brenneman: Violet Is the Stable Force on New Season of 'Private Practice' (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Sep 29th 2011 5:15PM
Amy Brenneman, who plays Violet Turner on ABC's 'Private Practice,' stopped by 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) to preview tonight's season premiere.

When guest co-host Aisha Tyler ran through all the recent drama in Violet's life -- pregnancy, kidnapping and calling off a wedding -- Brenneman told the panel that this season, Violet "is the stable force ... in her own crazy, neurotic way." Violet's husband Pete, played by Tim Daly, had a heart attack at the end of last season and Brenneman said that was her character's "come to Jesus moment."

'Private Practice': The End of the Day, or the End of a Life? (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 29th 2010 9:31AM
'Private Practice': The End of the Day, or the End of a Life? There's nothing better than leaving the office at the end of the workday. Sure, there are still minor nuisances: powering down your computer, gathering up your stuff ... Still, you're essentially free -- freed from drudgery. Unless something goes wrong.

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

Charlotte King (KaDee Strickland) thinks she's free. But nothing could be further from the case. She tries to leave at the end of the day on 'Private Practice' (Thu., 10PM ET on ABC). Not only does not she make it out the door -- she might not make it out alive.

Ms. King is the Chief of Staff at St. Ambrose Hospital. She's just finished a night of work on Halloween Eve -- she had to stay late on the holiday, but soon that minor annoyance will be the least of her worries. Charlotte and her fiancée Cooper (Paul Adelstein) had a fight earlier in the day. But Coop made it up to her with a gift; a miniature layer cake in a tasteful box. She glances at her fiancée's photo, grabs the box ... And then she's walking out of her office.

And that's when it happens.

'Private Practice': Love in an Elevator (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 22nd 2010 7:23AM
'Private Practice': Love in an ElevatorMedical shows can be so tense. There's never any time for the characters to relax, and everyone's always rushing to surgery or dealing with the latest life-and-death situation. But we get a break from that on the latest 'Private Practice' (Thu., 10PM ET on ABC).

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

The episode starts with the three main female characters just standing around in an elevator. Hardly the high-stakes drama we're used to. Addison, Amelia and Violet (played by Kate Walsh, Caterina Scorsone and Amy Brenneman) are killing time, and the trio use the elevator ride to discuss their love lives.

Amelia complains that she hasn't had sex in "weeks." Man, that's rough. "I need to get laid! I need to get laid really bad!" she says.

'Private Practice': Looking For a Home Away From Home (VIDEO)

'Private Practice': Looking For a Home Away From HomeOn the new 'Private Practice' (Thu., 10PM ET on ABC), an old friend's daughter returns -- and the doctors at Oceanside Wellness must find her a home. But they learn that doing the right thing is harder than you think.

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

Last season, Dell Parker (Chris Lowell) died following a car accident. Dell left his daughter Betsy Parker behind, and Betsy's mother is dead as well -- so the little girl was left in the care of an aunt. Now, the aunt suddenly arrives at the clinic, abandoning Betsy there. The doctors don't know what to do. And Betsy (Hailey Sole) has no family left to help her.

'Private Practice': A Girl and a Gun (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 8th 2010 6:47AM
'Private Practice': A Girl and a GunThe director Jean-Luc Godard famously said that in order to create drama, you only need two things: "A girl and a gun." This certainly holds true for the latest episode of 'Private Practice' (Thu., 10PM ET on ABC).

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

While the other doctors are occupied with their own endless melodramas (which includes tonight's crossover with 'Grey's Anatomy'), Dr. Pete Wilder (Tim Daly) has to deal with something a little more solid and tangible. Such as a gun being shoved in his face. Pete volunteers to help out at a friend's home medical clinic. But he is shocked to learn that his friend Gibby (James Remar) performs surgery out of the back room of his house. And when a teenage girl is shot, the situation gets even more tense.

The young woman has been shot three times, and is quickly bleeding to death. Her boyfriend Alex (Preston Flagg) stands nervously by her side as the doctors go to work. But the girl's life can't be saved in the tiny surgery clinic. Pete says that they have to call an ambulance ... and that's when the gun comes out.

The 'Private Practice' Cast Teases Love, Marriage & Sex In New Season (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 22nd 2010 12:00PM
Let's be honest: Last season of 'Private Practice' was a real downer. But this season is starting off with a bang, a surprise and some life-changing orgasms, according to the cast.

I stopped by the set while they were shooting their farewells to Dell over his grave (we'll miss you, Chris Lowell!), and they were all incredibly eager to talk about the theme of Season 4: adult relationships.

Check out what Kate Walsh, Taye Diggs, Amy Brenneman, Tim Daly, Audra McDonald, Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland, Caterina Scorsone and Brian Benben teased about the sexy new season (premieres Thurs., Sept. 23, 10PM ET on ABC), wedding bells and more.

The Stars of 'Private Practice' Talk Twitter (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 2nd 2010 4:45PM
'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Private Practice' boss lady Shonda Rhimes is one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter (hi @shondarhimes!). She answers fan questions in what can only be called entertaining bursts of rapid-fire tweeting, then often puts an abrupt end to things when she's sick of answering the same "when will AddiSam happen for real?" question over and over agian.

While we all know the 'Grey's' cast is pretty anti-Twitter, the gang over at 'Private Practice' is much more tech-savvy and loving the instant connection with the fans. I hit the 'Private Practice' set -- a full set visit video is coming closer to premiere -- and the amount of Twitter talk warranted its own post.

Kate Walsh (@k8_walsh) says she treats it like her diary, while Tim Daly (@TimmyDaly) says he can't stand people who do that. Amy Brenneman (@TheAmyBrenneman) gives us the real reason Taye Diggs won't tweet, while Taye just tries to come to terms with the word tweet. And Audra McDonald (@AudraEqualityMc) reminds us that sometimes there's more to the oft-maligned social media tool than meets the eye.

Also of note: Caterina Scorsone (@caterinatweets), a.k.a. Amelia Shepherd, is also on. And since my visit, KaDee Strickland (@KaDeeStrick) has joined the ranks as well. I'm not taking credit or anything, but ... well, you're welcome. Enjoy!

Did you know who was in the casket on Private Practice?

by Jane Boursaw, posted Oct 3rd 2009 10:44PM
Private Practice season 3 premiereI've been waiting all summer to see how things turned out for Violet and her baby on Private Practice. Let's face it. Things looked bleak at the end of season two when Violet's baby was hacked out of her by a crazy person, and they didn't look any better at the beginning of season three. So I was pretty ecstatic with how things turned out.

I must admit, though, the way things were going, I really wasn't sure who was in that casket that started the episode until we were getting close to the end. It wasn't small enough to be a baby's casket (thank goodness), and I was pretty sure Amy Brenneman was planning on sticking around, so it was unlikely that Violet was in the casket. Still, it was touch and go there for a while, and either one of them could have died.

VIDEO: Amy Brenneman On Her 'Private Practice' Fate, Flashbacks & More

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 1st 2009 4:00PM
Private PracticeIn one of last season's most shocking cliffhanger finales, a pregnant 'Private Practice' doc was being held hostage by her mentally imbalanced patient who was set on cutting the unborn child right out of her.

The fact that Amy Brenneman just sat down for an interview with AOL TV bodes well for the future of her character, Violet, but it doesn't make that incident any less horrific. In the third season premiere (Thurs., Oct. 1, 10PM ET on ABC), we'll see the aftermath of the attack and baby-snatching, something that can only be described as a very special episode.

So is there any chance Violet comes out unscathed, physically or emotionally? "Oh no, no, no," laughs Brenneman. She describes the turn the writers are taking with Violet this sesaon as "awesome," saying "It's like Christmas when you're given something like this!" But what I really want to know: Who is the baby daddy? Maybe the flashback-filled premiere, focusing on Violet and Pete, will give us more insight.

Private Practice: Yours, Mine & Ours (season finale)

Private Practice
(S02E22) "You have my baby and I want it back." - Katie

Those of us who keep up with show spoilers were warned that this episode would be a little crazy. But what we've got instead was a whole lot of crazy and some poor writing. To me, the season finale of Private Practice felt like it was rushed way too much. I get that season finale must be action packed and end with cliffhangers, especially when the series has been renewed, but there is a limit, no?

Private Practice: Who is the father of Violet's baby?

Private PracticeThere is one episode left in this second season of Private Practice and we still don't know who is the father of Violet's baby is. Are you getting tired like me of this ongoing mystery? Since the reveal may happen during next week's season finale, it's time we make our predictions as to who is the father of the baby: Sheldon or Pete? Place your bets in our poll after the jump!

The rest of the post contains information revealed in last night's episode so proceed with caution.

Dirty Sexy Money and Private Practice panels: Lots of resetting going on - TCA Report

by Joel Keller, posted Jul 18th 2008 10:44AM
Greg BerlantiThe photo to the right is of Dirty Sexy Money (and Eli Stone and Brothers & Sisters) EP Greg Berlanti, from the ABC show-runner panel. The reason why I post it is because ABC doesn't have any web-ready photos of either the DSM or the Private Practice panels for download, many hours after both panels. This despite promises that they would have web-ready pictures from the press tour up quickly. OK, cranky rant over.

Anyway, the panels for the two sophomore Wednesday shows didn't reveal all that much in the way of new info. We found out a little about what both Berlanti and PP creator Shonda Rhimes have in store, and how they deal with returning from such a long break (ABC held back the two shows and Pushing Daisies after the strike, making plans to restart in the fall).

Private Practice: In Which Cooper Finds a Port In His Storm

Private Practice(S01E08) "If they talk about us, we should talk about them." - Sam to Pete and Cooper

I'm not sure I like the port Cooper found in his storm and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone thinking this (let your voice be heard in our poll). It's clear they are trying to make Charlotte more meaningful but for me, it's too little too late. The character was almost as poorly introduced and as useful as Nikki and Paulo were on Lost. Let's hope that the Private Practice writers know where they are going with this because it could ruin the show's best character: Cooper.

(S01E06) "Don't wake the tiger." - Pete about Charlotte

And down the rabbit hole Charlotte went. (For those who didn't get the title twist, it refers to Alice in Wonderland in which Alice goes down a rabbit hole and ends up in a fantasy/dream world.) Per our poll in last week's review, out of the 306 people who voted by the time I typed this line only 1 said they liked Charlotte the best. I'm not sure that this somewhat Charlotte-centric Private Practice episode will have viewers relate more with the character.

(S01E05) "You guys are so not friends. You are like a corporation." - Violet to Sam

In case you didn't know, Private Practice was picked up for a full 22-episode season. That means more Pete and Addison flirting, Cooper and Violet circling around one another, and, sadly, more of angry Naomi! Even if reviews of the first episodes were not stellar, the show has been improving. Most importantly, Private Practice has been strong in ratings, which led to its pick up.
