'SNL' Scorecard: Did Steve Martin Succeed in Sabotaging Alec Baldwin's Show?

by Mike Ryan, posted Sep 25th 2011 12:30PM

Watching Alec Baldwin host 'SNL' – which he has now done a record 16 times -- has become a little like purchasing a recent album from the now disbanded R.E.M.: We know that we're going to get a solid effort – even great, at times -- but the truly memorable moments are from the first decade of work. A point Baldwin even kind of alludes to in last night's monologue. The first show of the season is usually a mixed bag at best (with last year's excellent Amy Poehler hosted effort a huge exception). "But they've had all summer to think of new ideas," is often a criticism levied at the first show of a season, but that's not really the way it works. With Baldwin as host and with the exact same cast as last year (with the only change being Nasim Pedrad promoted from featured player to cast member) there was hope that SNL's 37th season could come out firing on all cylinders. Nope. So, with that, welcome to another season of 'Saturday Night Live' and, yes, another season of SNL Scorecard!

Lonely Island, Michael Bolton, Special Guests Give Hilarious Emmys Performance (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Sep 18th 2011 11:00PM
Lonely Island gave a hilarious live medley performance of their hit songs 'Jack Sparrow,' '3 Way (The Golden Rule),' and 'I Just Had Sex' at the 2011 Emmys, which featured a slew of musical guest appearances.

The Andy Samberg-led musical trio had those three tunes nominated for Best Original Song, although they were beaten out by Justin Timberlake's 'SNL' monologue in an award handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys last week. But they were the ones who stole the show at the main event.

Michael Bolton, who was at one point dressed in full pirate regalia, joined Maya Rudolph, John Stamos, Ed Helms and Akon in the star-studded medley.

Lonely Island had three songs up for Emmys -- including '3-Way (The Golden Rule)' -- but lost out to Justin Timberlake's 'Saturday Night Live' monologue.

Andy Samberg On Staying Alive as Shark Week's Chief Shark Officer (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

by Chris Harnick, posted Jul 29th 2011 9:05AM
Andy Samberg, Shark WeekAndy Samberg has a lot of weight on his shoulders as Shark Week 2011's Chief Shark Officer. But, just how did the 'Saturday Night Live' funnyman get this "jawesome" gig?

"I think I'm Chief Shark Officer for obvious reasons," Samberg said. "I love sharks, I'm a really bad swimmer, Justin Timberlake passed. What else? Mainly the third one."

In the exclusive video interview below, Samberg, while soaking wet and standing in the ocean, details his experiences as Chief Shark Officer.

"The worst thing about being Chief Shark Officer is that I had to go to the Bahamas! It doesn't smell like whiz or homeless people anywhere here," he joked. "I'm just so homesick. It's going to be so sucky when I have to go back."

'SNL Digital Short': '3-Way' With Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and Andy Samberg (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 23rd 2011 4:14AM
Andy Samberg, Justin Timberlake & Lady Gaga, 'Saturday Night Live'When Justin Timberlake was announced as the host for the season finale of 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC), we suspected there was a chance for a recurrence of the characters he and Andy Samberg made famous across two 'Digital Shorts.'

What we didn't expect was that not only would they be joined by their recent lovers from the 'Motherlover' short, Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson, but that musical guest Lady Gaga would join them in the song and the gag.

The new premise finds our favorite out-of-fashion mack daddies leaving their motherlovers behind to foray into the next frontier in lovemaking. "3-Way (The Golden Rule)" followed they boys on a sexual adventure with Gaga and one another -- It's okay, because it's not gay when it's a three-way.

Andy Samberg Breastfeeds a Baby on 'Today'Andy Samberg of 'Saturday Night Live' lovingly nurtured a (fake) baby on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC). In fact, Samberg was so intent upon breastfeeding the baby that he pretended to do so throughout his entire segment and even during a commercial break.

"I found this little lady backstage and she seemed starving. So, I'm doing my duty," Samberg said, cradling the baby doll. "She's hungry."

Andy Samberg, Paul Reubens on 'Saturday Night Live'In the latest 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC) digital short, Andy Samberg and Pee-Wee Herman (aka Paul Reubens) bonded over tequila shots. This turned into a big adventure that included riding a mechanical bull, whopping Anderson Cooper with a chair and dancing on the bar -- Pee-wee style -- to the 'Tequila' song.

The pair returned home to find their friends conducting an intervention. Even a few of Pee-wee's buddies ("Chairy?!") got serious. "You're a b-b-b-bad influence on each other," said Conky the Robot.

'Saturday Night Live' Delivers a Tribute to ... Having Sex, With Jessica Alba and Blake Lively (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 20th 2010 2:36AM
'Saturday Night Live' Delivers a Tribute to ... Having Sex, With Jessica Alba and Blake LivelyHaving sex! Most people seem to enjoy it. But can you express your love of having sex in lyrical form? 'Saturday Night Live' can.

On the new episode (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC), Andy Samberg (and 'Lonely Island' co-star Jorma Taccone) delivered a serenade to something that didn't need serenading in the first place. After all, most people don't have to be won over to the idea of having sex. Still, Andy and Jorma tried it anyway.

They brought in a star-studded cast to help, including rapper Akon, as well as Jessica Alba and Blake Lively -- who played Andy and Jorma's completely-non-satisfied sexual partners. The song began well, as Andy bragged of his recent performance in the bedroom: "Have you ever had sex?" he sang. "I have/ It felt great. It felt so good/ When I did it with my penis." But things quickly went downhill from there ...

Watch Paul Rudd Laugh Really Hard in His 'Saturday Night Live' Promos

by Jean Bentley, posted Dec 10th 2010 4:10PM
Paul RuddJust when you thought it wasn't possible for Paul Rudd to get any more adorably charming, he went ahead and filmed these goofy 'Saturday Night Live' promos with his 'I Love You, Man' costar (and 'SNL' cast member) Andy Samberg.

Our favorite is the one where he laughs really, really hard -- like, really hard -- but the Santa cameos are pretty great too. Rudd is currently promoting his romantic comedy with Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson (and Jack Nicholson!), 'How Do You Know.'

Get psyched for tomorrow's Paul-stravaganza (with host Rudd and musical guest Paul McCartney) after the jump.

Andy Samberg Shows Off His Pink Snowsuit and Baking Skills on 'The Martha Stewart Show' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Dec 6th 2010 5:30PM
Andy Samberg bakes on 'The Martha Stewart Show'Andy Samberg went on 'The Martha Stewart Show' (Weekdays, 10AM on Hallmark) this morning to show he is a man comfortable with pink snowsuits, ski bunny slopes, and baking cakes. The entire audience was draped in white blankets and Stewart wore a parka for the winter theme.

Samberg's suit was adorned with lift tags, implying that he actually wears it when not whipping frosting. Stewart said he looked cute in pink, and asked if he skied the bigger mountains.

"Less triple black diamond and more triple green diamond," he said, displaying his knowledge of ski terms. "I don't like moguls."

He's probably a bit more competent on the slopes than with a frosting sleeve. Samberg's dollops kept sliding off the cake. "I'm gonna take full responsibility for some of these," he said, as Stewart turned the cake to finish Samberg's side.

Robert De Niro Dresses in Drag, Flirts With Diddy on 'SNL' (VIDEO)

Robert De Niro Dresses in Drag, Flirts With Diddy on 'SNL'Well, Diddy got his wish, but was it worth it for Robert De Niro? Sean "Diddy" Combs was the musical guest on this week's 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC). He appeared along with third-time host Bobby (we call him "Bobby") De Niro. And the rapper started a Twitter campaign to be included in a sketch with the actor.

So, that happened -- but it may not have been the highlight of De Niro's career. The musician and the actor appeared together in a sketch featuring Andy Samberg as "Blizzard Man" -- the world's most clueless (and untalented) rapper. De Niro dressed up in drag to play Blizzard Man's mom, and soon enough, Diddy was hitting on him ... well, her.

While De Niro was decked out in a form-fitting sweater, sunglasses, and a questionable hairstyle, Diddy attempted to seduce him (her). Mr. Combs laid down such lines such as "Girl, you the one that's hot fire," and "If you wasn't my man's mom, I'd tear that a## up" -- and okay, let's just shut this whole thing down right now.

'SNL' Takes on the Prince William/Kate Middleton Engagement (VIDEO)

'SNL' Takes on the Prince William/Kate Middleton EngagementMeeting the grandparents is always difficult. Especially when you're engaged to the future King of England. And especially when the grandparents you're meeting are Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. And especially when you're just a mere "commoner" yourself.

On the new 'SNL' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC), the show takes on the engagement of British heir-to-the-throne Prince William. After eight years of dating, William finally got engaged to "regular girl" Kate Middleton, his girlfriend.

The long delay between dating and making wedding plans earned Kate the cruel nickname of "Waity Katie" from the English press. But that's nothing compared to the cruel reception that Middleton (played by Anne Hathaway) gets from the royal family on 'Saturday Night Live.'

Sexy Emma Stone vs. Grape Jelly on 'SNL' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 25th 2010 4:10AM
Sexy Emma Stone vs. Grape Jelly on 'SNL'On 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC), host Emma Stone played the hot girl that everyone loves to hate. In the show's digital short, Emma starred as an insufferable high school student. Her character suffered a random accident in the cafeteria, slipping on some grape jelly that was on the floor.

For a while, it was all good! Emma still had it going on, so all the cool boys and girls still wanted to hang out with her. She demanded that they sign their names on her plaster arm cast. "Now, sign my cast/ Sign my cast/ Sign my cast!" she chanted.

Then, Emma slipped on the same patch of jelly again, and again ... and again. She wound up in a wheelchair, with only a Stephen Hawking-style vocal computer/keyboard thing for her "voice." "Now, sign my keyboard/ Sign my keyboard/ Sign my keyboard," she "sang," to considerably less excitement.
